If you wear a dress shirt with denim jeans you can look semi-'sophisticated' whilst also appearing 'fun' due to the denim possibly with casual tennis shoes or dress shoes.
A bolder move could be wearing a slightly loosened necktie, but that's probably the young ironic look.
Regardless, I find that your outlook & humorous presentation eradicates any superficial distinctions to those more thoughtful, which are the type of people you want to be around anyway.
I have the same argue with myself everyday, and end exactly the same way... the interesting fact is I am a woman... now I feel bad.

Well, if you don't have tassles on your shoes then I think you're ok.
The problem is if you catch your reflection in a shop window, and you look exactly like your father.
Then...you have to worry...
