There's a big middle eighth in this and It is overiding the message - You cock sucker Claret an Nose - Phil lyons is a sex register signatory... Yow Yow dingleton?
The whole album is a classic so f**king ahead of it's time that I was first exposed to rap by this gem and I saw the movie when it came out.Jagger loved the soundtrack so much he tried to steal the credit from the genius behind it
Vinyl has never really gone away....it's a far less expensive method of distributing music and in the last 30 years or so has been used to release unknown albeit still good music not of the mainstream.....my 14 y/o son LOVES his vinyl and record player
@hamdelsun HATE CDS MYSELF - POOR "DIGITAL" SOUND QUALITY. More turntables sold worldwide in the 2000s than in the 70s. Just bought a new one for my brother's son, & have several Technics myself. Vinyl rules & I am a 45 enthusiast especially. DAVEDJ
It took me a while to find this song after hearing it on Little Steven's Underground Garage, a program on Chicago's 93xrt. What a gem, surprised it's not one of the first videos to come up under a Mick Jagger search.
Once again, the great Ry Cooder and his inimitable slide work makes what is merely a passable Stones song a masterpiece. I hope Mick and Keef have a shrine built for Ry and worship him.
A stunning commentary on revolution, queer/trans culture, & insanity on the 1 hand-& capitalism, racism, & classism on the other... As relevant a film (& song/poem) today as it was then!
Jagger played a major part. It was re-released in October 2007 on a seventeen-song retrospective compilation album The Very Best of Mick Jagger, making a re-appearance as a Jagger solo effort. After its original release in 1970, it had been included on Rolling Stones compilations, such as Singles Collection: The London Years as a track credited to Jagger/Richards songwriters.
For those of you who have been confused if this was a Jagger or STones tune.. its actually from the movie Performance.. in which Jagger stars.. GREAT fucking movie. i suggest you all see it....
Pretty sure Randy Newman wrote this song....Ry Cooder and Kieth play guitars, not sure who else but Nicky Hopkins was around a lot maybe some of the other guys from the band, Ry Cooder puts this song way over the top though.
Just looked it up. So that's Ry Cooder on slide. Figures. Again and again I find the cream rises to the top. You hear something awesomely good, with no idea who it is, and then come to find out it's someone, well, awesome. Like the first time I heard a Lester Young solo. Had no idea who it was or what it was. Looked up the song, found out it was The Prez. It just figures. Great is great for a reason.
Heard the intro to this tune in GoodFellas, when Henry is driving around all paranoid followed by the copter. Always wondered what it was. Kinda thought it was the Stones. I like the intro better than the whole song, I think. But I love the intro.
@canadianroot he's such a good lyricist, in fact, i've often wondered if he has a ghost rider. everytime i read the lyrics to sympathy for the devil, i find it hard to believe mick wrote them.
Great song!

I first heard this song on the Rolling Stones box set "The London years" I think it was called. It was on disc 3.
This version is solo Mick Jagger with Ry Cooder playing slide guitar.
I have heard the Stones version and do not like it as well.

Lot of people have problems with placing music of the movie Performance (soundtrack) on You tube.
FransPannekeet 1 year ago
@FransPannekeet ...thats because it's owned by the
assholes at Warner Brothers...they block tons of the
stuff they own. if WMG has it..it's most likey not on here.
or it's gonna be blocked as soon as they find out.

Agreed. Has a very Little Feat-esque kind of intro. And then, just when you're expecting Lowell George, it's Mick.
No knock against Mick, who is in my humble opinion, a greatly under-rated lyricist.
