  • That is not close that is miles away!! I heard the 7 people who were killed were 90 years of age, in wheel chairs, in the road watching the tornado come right at them and since they had no hearing or eyesight well....you can imagine how they met Dorathy up in them thar clouds!!

  • Wow ur close

  • this isn't Northeast Iowa.... lived in Iowa my whole life and Parkersburg is definitely NOT northeast... sry :(

  • @amelia51503

Nope, it sure isn't. I live in Charles City and it's way south.

  • @zagnut48219 Parkersburg is located in southern Butler county and you are located in central Floyd county yeah its south of you more in the north central part of the state

  • Torando? seriously... its TORNADO!!!

  • crazy shit

  • Torandos are so beautiful but quite scary at same time. I live in the valley, here in California and we don't get anything like this.

  • one of the widest wedges I've seen!

  • It looks like the f5 off twister

  • Fantastic tornado, to bad it wasn't caught with a profesional camera on tripod !, look at the massive wall on the top part, powerful.

  • Great footage. Hell who cares if it was off a cell phone? I think it shows the power, the intensity of the storm, the size and the awe. Good job. I wish my cell phone had a video option. But I always keep my trusty digital camera especially during tornado season here in the tri county area of Metro Detroit.

  • yeah.. my cousin took this video because he was weather spotting.

  • First time I've seen this one. It's great! The resolution isn't the best--what can you expect from a cell phone video on YouTube?--but I can make out what appears to be a possible double-funnel structure. Very interesting to see.

My buddies and I were on this storm. We caught the formation of the second, equally large tornado that formed as the Parkersburg wedge occluded; ours went on to sideswipe Hazleton.

  • what do you think it feels to be up in that sky when the tornado gets you...oviously i think you go dizzy and stop breathing and loose your heart and die.....im luck tornados never happen hear..thank god

  • the tornado would either rip you apart, or debris from it would kill you, except for in rare cases.

  • OMG.....iw ill hate to be up there..rip me apart

    :(

  • judging from the boyscouts who were in the log cabin at night when that F2 hit their cabin... it sounds like you'd be slammed by debris like trees, logs, rocks and parts of houses and shattered glass, I doubt the wind would rip someone apart..

Like most people get caught in tornados they are thrown by them, hurled several hundred meters, many suffer paralysis... i think i saw something on discovery channel where a child was thrown, fully recovered, but has no memory of it happening.

  • DudukIsTehBest

Most deaths and injuries in tornadoes result from structures buildings and flying debris, not from the people being thrown.

  • You're right. The tornado does look like the Moore, Oklahoma F5 from '99. unfortunately it seems like events like this are becoming more frequent in Tornado Alley. But it's probably just the better documentation and reporting of tornadoes.

  • That's what the Greensburg tornado would've looked like during the day. Could you imagine that thing at night? but none the less it was tragic and my thoughts go out to both Greensburg and Parkersburg and all the other rural areas that were effected by these such disasters.

  • no, in actuality the Greensburg tornado was TWICE as wide as this one. Hard to imagine, eh ??

  • wow. thats huge!

  • looks similar to the OKC f5 of 1999.

  • That evening/night I was going nuts. I remember driving up near Dunkerton and being stopped by a spotter (the tornado was rain wrapped so it wasn't visible) and the spotter told me it probably wasnt a good idea to get up closer. All we could see was a dark mass,it didnt even look like a tornado. I then headed over to Parkersburg near sunset. I got to a hill on the outside of town and saw a mass of flashing lights. I knew it had to be bad. I will never forget how eerie it looked from that hill.

  • HOLY SHIT!!!!!

    lol

  • this storm ruined my home and almost my family....I thank the red cross and everyone for all they did....i will never forget this day.

  • my dad took this vidio

  • hell on earth

  • I remember this day so clearly.

I was sitting at home and I turned on the news, because I thought we were gonna get some heavy rain. When I turned on the news all I saw on the radar was red, orange, and yellow. 3 very bad colors to be seen on the radar. Then the weather man said that there were several tornados out and that Parkersberg IA had direct hit! And so did Fairbank IA! I was scared for my life and my friends lived in Fairbank and Parkersberg!

  • That Thing is MASSIVE!

  • My dads friend was in the Emergency truck right in front of the one where the guy taking this video was....i watched this tornado form south of my house in aplington and started calling my friends in parkesburg telling them to get in the basement!!!..I seriously never wouldu've thought it would get that massive and cause that much destuction...it's still bone chilling....

  • holy crap, what a monster this was. This is the first pics/video I have seen of the actual tornado itself. Most everything shows it all rain wrapped. Great capture.

  • holy! ***** O_O

  • It was scary when I saw it. I looked at it for two seconds and my family decided: To The Basement!

  • now 8 were comfirmed dead(old lady from p-burg

  • that old lady ur talking about happens to be my best friends aunt

  • dang!

  • this video is the best i've seen too. Most of the others its either too wide and rain wrapped you cant see it or they catch it right before it gets really bad or right after. Thanks for sharing.

  • That was HUGE! later on this thing gets all rain wrapped and hard to see. I was on this storm from waterloo on and the tornado is there but nearly impossible to see. I could tell by the damage I ran across. This is the clearest one I have seen thus far.

  • I caught up to the storm east of Dunkerton after leaving the norhtern storms near Marble Rock, and by that time it was rained wraped. Due to the rain and the darkness in the area, I was unable to get any decent photos of the tornado. But this was incredible and dangerous storm.
