  • Oh shut up people and just HELP!

  • DSOCCER5-thank you! HarmoniousHom, I am a buddhist and I agree with you.

  • Does one religion contribute to the state of thing in life? What I mean by that is-Buddhism teaches a person to deny earthly material in this life as to gain a better one in the next? Can I safely say poverty can be attributed to wrong philosophy of thinking, therefore a person or country gets what has been molded by that spirit of desire. My conclusion is, Buddhism contributes to poverty as a whole. This is not conclusive by any mean on my observation.
  • Being non-materialistic does not mean that you choose to live in poverty. Most Americans have lots of stuff, but are also heavily in debt. Seems to be the American way.

I'm Buddhist. I live a simple life, but I am not poor.

  • Good for u. The Fed Reserve was created to put a noose around the necks of its citizens. No joke.

I fell into their trap, I hope I can escape before I choke to death by their system.

  • @roguesta Very well stated and true.I'm anything but poor but I also live minimally. It's allowed me to travel to 10 differant countries so far including Cambodia.I noticed the kids in rural Cambodia,Thailand and Lao seemed very happy and content playing with banana leaves and such.American kids are way to spoiled and not as happy. That woke me up big time.

  • Foreign investment, especially on turism industry such as hotels, restuarants, tour business ect..can have an impact on poverty. It provides opportunities for the local people to earn a living which can lifted them out of poverty. So having 5 star hotels in Cambodia is not necessary bad thing.

  • I don't think I've ever been so disgusted as when I saw 5-star hotels with 9 and 18-hole golf courses literally on the opposite of the street from Khmer children living in the ditch at Siem Reap. As if these people haven't been through enough already.

  • So it would be better if there was no hotel just a ditch on that side of the street too.

try looking at your home country you will find the same too.

  • Certainly not, but at least there wouldn't be the sickening contrast. Out of sight out of mind. I would like nothing more than to see either the Westerners cancel Cambodia's debts once and for all and use their influence to stop government corruption if at all, OR to share their wealth instead of staying in 5 star hotels. You're right though, American imperialism is worst here in America because Americans have more wealth to exploit.

  • Thank for sharing it
