This company solves the two biggest problems with electric cars, low ranges and slow charging times.
Ten minutes is not nearly as long as the four hours most cars take, I realise this is with fast charge but with the proper infrastructure you could get anywhere without waiting hours to recharge.
actually the pollution made to manufacture a batteries would be even greater than the pollution from low emission vehicles but this thing kicks major ass because electric motors require next to no maintenance
why didnt GM think of that chargeing method. GM is stupid for destroying the ev1s to make room for the volt which may or may not be a hoax. i believe it isnt.
Someone is going to develop something like this at a price-point that will make it the Volkswagen Bug of the 21st century. Wish I knew who that was and I'd invest in them now!
If there's a good thing about the spiral of gasoline prices it's that it finally is making technology such as this attractive and competitive. I'm thinking however that unless one was to also have a second gas-powered vehicle, you'd be limited to in-city short trips if this were your only vehicle. We need to either - 1) have hybrids that can use traditional fuels if needed, or 2) find a way to develop batteries with more capacity for longer range, or 3) find a way to "rapid-charge" this.
@scifi353 yeah thats the big selling point of this, but a special charging station is required to do this so you can recharge in 10 minutes just anywhere... yet. The company had filed for bankruptcy at one point but restructured and has new backers, it has gone into 'stealth mode' to finish its suv/sut by late 2010 which could be a great sign, or just mean the company is really dead, we should find out pretty soon though. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Tesla has dismissed the relevance and usefulness of the Nanosafe cells, due to their cost and relatively low energy density. In response, Phoenix and AltairNano have acknowledged that this is not a sustainable business strategy,[9] but counter that the battery cost will decrease dramatically as production increases, thus eventually eliminating the need for selling ZEV credits.[10]
I actually like the fact that EV drive train begins to brake (or the feeling of braking) when you let off the accelerator. I don't like coasting feeling of a typically automatic transmission combustion engine. I think I will really like the performance characteristics of an EV -- any financial savings is just icing on the cake.
I'll buy this and drive it for 20 years. Electric motors are much better than internal combustion engines. I have an electric lawnmower now and I will NEVER go back to the old kind.
I think if the price of the battery comes down to $1000 or $2000 per car, the gas station conversions will follow by act of congress if necessary. The nanosafe will take over the world shortly afterwards. But if the price of the battery stays high, it's going nowhere. I also think that Tesla is severly flawed in that it takes 4.5 hours to charge.
The price of the battery is one of the last major hurdles. They have to "grow" and handle billions of nanotubes for each cell and that's never been done before. Then you need lots of service stations that are capable of charging the car. For a fast (ten minute) charge you need the 440 volt outlet. I think anyone buying the car is going to want the fastest charges because no one is going to want to sit around a rest stop for 4 hours.
people MUST understand this and support it as much as possible. The high tech is the future! I agree is pricey but it must be a start somewhere... We delayed it too much and now we have to pay the price! if we don't want to do this now we'll do it later anyway at a much more expensive rate...
why doesn't it have a transmission? i understand energy can be lost from more moving parts but why not use mechanical advantage? haven't you heard of that transmission that changes gears smoothly? it's called the CVT continuous variable transmission. it doesn't need many parts nor is it a confusing concept. it would be as easy to maintain as a fan belt.
and why are there no solar panels? im getting very upset with all of these electric cars nowadays with huge batteries that weigh a lot.
Solar panels are a good idea. They couldn't run the car alone but they could extend the range. It could recarge by solar as well as regen braking. When you're sitting at a red light, when it's parked at a friends house, work, etc. Modern technology should be able to blend them seamlessly into the roof, hood, & trunk.
at this time solar panels are still too cost inefficient. they dont take in enough energy to pay for the integration at this point. even the aptera's solar roof doesnt charge the battery... it just runs a small heat pump to shoot the hot air out while parked in the sun.
why have only 2000 people viewed this???? this should have 10 million views!!!! spread the word people.. we are paying 4.50 a gallon here in southern california, this is the answer!!!!! god damn it, this is the answer!!! i want to work for this company or tesla.. i predict one of the big three to buy this company out very soon.
yeah it's pricy but with gas about to be 5.00, especially if mccain gets elected in november which would keep big oil protected from outside ideas, it pays for itself in the savings from 'no gas'.
this type of vehicle is going to outlast any gasoline vehicle and is saving you $50-$60 a week on gas, no more 21 point lubes at the shop, and no more oil changes
The first driver is called Leif Pagrotsky! He is a very famous potitician in Sweden. He was a minister in the previous government.

Can you say that no one died today so you could fill your SUV with gas? Household rooftop solar panels and EV's can let you sleep easier at night.

Invest in the company that makes the batteries these cars are going to use, Altair Nanotechnologies (type ALTI into Yahoo Finance)

Seems easier and less stressfull to drive than combustion car. No gears means 1 less thing to think about while driving.

We in germany pay in translation into dollars 8,85 US$ per gallon :-)
our government takes 60% of it for taxes

The front suspension would still need to be lubed. No big deal though, just do it when the tires get rotated.
