jonh mayer is the voice of new generation of blues,do not matter if he put on pop music inside this, there is two statements about this: jonh mayer play just like the best ,jonh mayer keep the real fuck song living in the heart of people......and im not not fan of jonh mayer im like of good music, but the melodies that this guy can to create and sing are fuckreallycool.
The point is that John Mayer is molding blues guitar with pop music and putting it on the radio. This causes people to want to listen to blues, then those people look into his interests, then look into Clapton, then Hendrix, then Buddy Guy, then BB King. Sooner or later those people are blues fanatics. Just like me.
JM is a guy that everybody wishes they could be...amazingly talented, comfortable in his own skin, succeeding wildly at something he truly loves; he can live his life completely on his own terms, and at the same time, bring joy to zillions. The haters are just jealous!
I hate when people hate on Mayer, and compare him... "Oh. Well SRV did it waaaaaayyy better. Lyk3, Mayer izz a faggot he should quitzz. Omg@!@!" God. Idiots. Mayer is easily one of the most talented if not the most talented popular musicians of this generation. And he's doing SRV and Hendrix Justice.
@Aneron88 I'm a member of the Clapton/Hendrix generation and I totally agree with you. Mayer does some riffs I don't think C/H would've had it in 'em to do. The dude is unparalleled at improvisation, don't you think?

@RobBrooksMusic look up wait until tomorrow off of where the light is, covered in rain off of any given thursday, and his city love intro from the crossroads festival. Come back and tell me you don't understand the hype haha XD
What kills me about YouTube comments are people actually putting even an ounce of energy in a childlike manner trying to convince others that someone is good or not
or who's better.... Uh.. Hello, it subjective..
Just like it or not... Who's gives a rip if someone else does or not....
@acarouselofantics he's not holding back. that's all he got. it's why it pisses me off when people say, "oh! John Mayer is awesome! so much better than srv and hendrix." I think he's a washed up sellout honestly.
@kermicheo I've heard him do some decent solos but "BETTER THAN SRV AND HENDRIX?!" Who wrote or said that? Get the heck out of here. There is a performance of SRV's "Tightrope" on Youtube that someone has up and it is killer and Mayer can't touch it. PERIOD!! Look it up when you can but you might already know what I'm talking about.
@Squarehead29 Yaa, I'm a big john mayer fan actually, but your comment just doesn'y hold any water musically... Mayer as a musician isn't a blues guitarist, he plays the blues well, but his other varied styles leak into his lines and you really can't compare him to the many blues players you probably havn't heard of because they havn't written a hit song, no offense but a really bold comment coming from someone who likely doesnt know what the fuck they are talking about
@DanSherkinMusic I'm just going to say "what?" because your comment is really weird... or maybe I just didn't understand it but..If JM didn't play any Blues I wouldn't listen to anything he did. I knew him because of the blues THEN I'm listening to what he does because I like his own style ("guitarly" speaking) There's a huge bunch of musics from JM that I can't stand, in fact every mellow pop songs gets on my nerves. Blues doesn't need 'hit songs" to be good by the way...
@DanSherkinMusic That's really not fair at all. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and whilst I don't know a plethora of blues guitarists, of those I have heard, Mayer is easily up there. To say he isn't a blues guitarist at heart is wrong I think. Mayer simply realises that certain styles of music are popular these days and if he wants to get people to listen to his blues (which I believe is what he truly enjoys playing) he has to draw them in with his more popular tracks eg Heartbreak
@asib12 Take a step back and think about this for a moment, anybody who plays the blues and the guitar is a blues guitarist. Mayer is also a singer songwriter. I like catchy tunes, that's why music is catchy, but a players career direction/decisions really aren't in the same ballpark as his rank of blues playing.
@nvs617 to an untrained ear, maybe it might sound like he is doing both simultaneously, but really he is just switching between rhythm and solo, but it sounds like both are going on at the same time.
@okamasphere i think he means he is doing the part that claptons backing band does aswell as claptons part of singing and play little leads here and there. it is still very impressive
@Tonybronx74 Is it because he makes clapton look "not so good" ? he's merely quoting his sources. I'm pretty sure you play songs written by other people as well.
I don't know why people 'rank' artists, Just let them get on with it. people say joe is better than john... On paper maybe... but its down to opinion to me johns far better joe's stuff all sounds the same to me... thats just my choice... many will think the same, many will think different.. CHILL :)
I'm thinking everyone talked about can play, it really doesn't matter if you think one is better or not, fact is at one point you may think one is best and a year later find someone else you like more. Just listen and appreciate talent.
this is one of the best pieces of true music ive heard,u can FEEL every note and every word and i think thats the difference between john mayer and many of the other new popular "musicians". I wish i was born 40 years ago....
@Heliocopter8 speaking as an old timer that grew up with Eric Clapton I can say Mayer is far superior in his range. I remember back in the early days Clapton wasn't though of as the best...not even close. He was just another player thats all. This elevated postion he is in now is a bunch of bull shit! And you old fuckers that want to argue the point know Im telling the truth.... because I was there!!! Go back and look at Clapton when he was Mayers age...HE SUCKED BIG TIME!!!!
@JAZZFUNG1 well mate in some cases thats true...but there is nothing to study with clapton...really he was and is just an OK player. Hes old so he gets pumped up into something hes not. Its just a respect for the old guy thing not because he did anything noteworthy because he didnt. Study Hendricks or Stevie Ray..OK but Clapton? No way mate.
@emacification At the end of the day, it's a matter of opinion as to who the "best guitarist" is. I believe Clapton is one of the best blues guitarists that has ever lived along with SRV, Hendrix, BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, etc... To say that he sucks, I don't quite understand, I love his playing. He has a very distinct and original style which has influenced so many current players that are amazing (including Mayer).
@Heliocopter8 You dont quit understand love?...well that the fuckin problem! I was there...was you? asshole? In those days Clampton was nothing compared to others during the time. Thats the factsand I got a wennie you can suck on if you dont like it! hehehe There is no comparing Mayer with Clapton...none! I mean any asshole that 'understands' talent can see it! He sucks..period! Look at some old live clips here of Clampton at Mayers age...hehehhe again no comparing the 2.
Learn to read, you incompetent simp. YOU made the claim that "in the early days, CLAPTON SUCKED BIG TIME."
That's a ridiculous statement. Clapton was a great blues player from '66-'72. If you learn how to read, you'll notice I said Clapton was at HIS prime from '66-'72. If you learn how to read, you'll see how in my last post I wrote "He was at HIS best from '66-'72." I did not write he was THE best from '66-'72. Do you understand, you fat clown?
@67goldtops O..OK love...I got it. You say he was at his best during that time..OK I agree AND IT SUCKED!! His best is todays teeny bopper band! As far as the blues, he is just another white guy trying to sound black! When I want to hear the blues I go to Buddy Guy or a white guy that grew up around it like SRV or Billy Gibbons. To say some gayish english dude can play like them is bulls shit!! Your level for understanding good music is limited you retard!
Right, my understanding of music is retarded. Sure it is. That's why I saw SRV 6 times. That's why I saw Danny Gatton back when you were home watching Little House on the Prairie. That's why my favorites page is filled with the greatest blues players to ever pick up a guitar. Right, fatboy? Fuck you and your dead parents. Clown.
@67goldtops no butt breath..your understanding of music is retarded because you think Clapton was the best back when..you retarded butthole! Eric Clapton sucked back then and still does. Hes OK..thats it!! Im sure ol Clapton would agree with me on that and he would laugh his ass off at morons like you. Look up Blind Faith live here at utube...hehehehehhe he sucked so bad!!! So you got something to jack off about because you saw SRV? So did I assbreath... whats your point? Fuckin Moron!!
dude u don't know wtf u r talking about. clapton was high on heroin during most of his time during blind faith, then he was drunk during most of the 70's and 80's. if u want to see why people say "clapton is God" u have to go to his days with the Bluesbreakers and Cream. Besides clapton's guitar playing now is way more skilful than it was back in the 60's. since the early 90s check out the documentary "nothing but the blues" u will see some awesome guitar playing to rival any 1
@emacification I never said I was there... It's merely a difference in opinion about his skill. It's amazing how dumb you're making yourself sound in all of these replies. Please don't call me "love", his name is Clapton and not "Clampton", and lastly, what the hell is a "wennie"? I feel like you're some senile old man with degrading spelling skills and strange new anatomy (wennie) that sits at his computer all day picking fights on youtube. Before you accuse me take a look at yourself.
@Heliocopter8 hahahahaha you stupid asshole. I put those spellings in there to give you something to feel important about!!! What a dumb ass. Here pussy breath.. .. "Klamptin" is a shitty player! There you go dumb ass..play with that for a while. hehehehe. You dont know what a wennie is? Well im sure you have sucked on plenty of them you fag retard! HEY.. you notice you are defending ol Erick (hehehhe) less and less and now calling me, (a mild mannered man) bad names? The facts remain!
dude when clapton was in his early 20's he created the overdrive distortion sound, introduced the Gibson with marshal stacks combo (that's now a standard in modern rock music), introduced the wha-wha pedal to the world and single handedly created the rock/blues genre of music with the "Beno" album. Even Hendrix was influenced by clapton. WTF did john mayer do when he was 20? Rock music as we know it may never have existed if it wasn't for clapton (same goes for Hendrix).
Ahhh ok..he was drunk and on heroin...well whatever he sounded like shit!!! Only a retarded moron would call a drunk heroin addict a 'god'. Your also full of shit about Hendrix. Everybody knows Buddy Guy influenced him. Its funny, the only guy that Hendrix spoke of as being a great player was Billy Gibbons! Never a word from him about your drunk heroin addict! Give it up asshole., Ill give him "OK" as a player but thats IT! Hes not even on the same page with Mayer! hehehehehe RETARD!!!!
u are such a retard! Its common knowledge that Hendrix was a huge Eric Clapton fan and loved jamming with Eric and would even incorporate some of Eric's licks into his playing. Dude i have Hendrix DVDs where he dedicates songs to Eric. If u think im talking BS just check out the clip
"Jimi Hendrix Experience at The Lulu Show LIVE - January 4, 1969" on u-tube
and "seven ages of rock : the sixties and Jimi Hendrix (part 2)" on u-tube
You were there, huh? Where exactly is THERE? Apparently it's somewhere completely lost, because you sure don't know what the fuck you're writing about. Eric Clapton's prime was between the years of '66-'70. That's beginning w/ the Beano album & ending w/ his collaboration with Duane Allman on the Layla album. Never since has his playing reached the heights it did when he was being pushed by Duane's genius. Clapton was 25 in '70. Mayer is 34 now. So, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU SMOKING?
@67goldtops Where was there...nice..I understand..your to damn retarded to know what I was talking about so im not going to try. Wow love..what you smoking? Look, you love Clapton ...wonderful! I like him a little myself. I had the cream albums...but for any asshole to say the guy should be rated as on of the best is retarded and smokes to much..like you fuck head! You like real blues..go watch and liston to some early ZZ Top with Billy Gibbons. Sorry, even brother Allman didnt help...lol
Like I already wrote, you haven't a clue of what you're attempting to write about. The degree to which I DO or DON'T like Clapton isn't the topic. The topic is YOUR having written, "I remember back in the early days Clapton wasn't though of as the best."
Forget that you're too fucking dumb to spell THOUGHT, & look at your statement. Clapton was a prodigy. He was at his BEST from '66-'72. So how are you critiquing his "early days"?
@67goldtops look retard...you got my point and im proud of you. Your a fuckin douche to even make the comment he was the best from 66-72....hahahhahahaha thats plain bull shit! Anybody reading this can go back and check out his talent during that time. He fuckin sucked. Live he was painfull to listen to. Go look you fuckin moron! (hows my spelling so far?) His songs were simple and any teeny band today could play them! There is no way you can compare him to the talent of Mayer.
@67goldtops OH...the best you say...What about Hendrix? Page?.and a list of real players? hahahahahha what a stupid ass statement to make! But never fear....you can spell!!!
@LesPaulFreak10 Joe Bonamassa and KWS are both stupendous players, as well. Once again, just a difference in opinion. I think Mayer is one of the best blues guitarists of my generation along with the likes of KWS, Joe Bonamassa, Jonny Lang, etc.
@LesPaulFreak10 i hate those debates...at a certain level of guitar playing only taste decides whos the best, and so everyone has a diffrent number 1!
@risensolution No No man your wrong. Let me tell you the facts. In the british audience the guys are all gay and they got their fingers up each others ass. hehehhehehhe
what does not sound good to u, might sound amazing to another! just remember that before u add a bad comment....great song TO ME! opinions are like assholes everyone has one!
i hate how everyone complains about bad "artists" out there now a day, and then when an excellent one is out there, people expect more. I appreciate his music in this time of crap of a "music" industry. Sure he might not be clapton or srv, but he is doing of hell of a lot better than brittney spears and nikki minaj.
everyones just hating on him because hes John Mayer and not Eric Clapton. he's still a great artist. great voice amazing guitarist. his voice and playing are super unique its fun to listen to him. he's really good at what he does. Eric Clapton is a legend its hard to live up to his work but look how much soul and uniqueness John put into this. he's doing what he loves and you can tell. and isnt that what its all about???
I don't think you guys understand... he's playing rhythm and soloing AT THE SAME TIME!!!!! No loop pedal or nothing.... In other words..... that's INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Dazzerx Are you deaf??? there's no delay on this... Not to mention I've seen him do this live at berklee once and he didn't have any pedals at all... So stop your hating
@Dazzerx difficulty aside, can you make it feel that way. FEEL man! how dare you talk about difficulty in correlation with music. its you that kills art
@josephithink Whether a piece of is difficult is not means nothing to me, I replied to a post that suggested that this is difficult, a simple I-IV-V chord progression can be heart touching, I care not for difficulty, It isn't me that kills art at all, everyone is an artist my friend.
If you came only for the solo its in: 3:07
But i reccomend you to listen all the song. So you can have the "pre flavor" to taste the solo itself. Thank you

John Mayer is awesome! so much better than srv and hendrix." I think he's a washed up sellout honestly.
kermicheo 2 months ago
@kermicheo I've heard him do some decent solos but "BETTER THAN SRV AND HENDRIX?!" Who wrote or said that? Get the heck out of here. There is a performance of SRV's "Tightrope" on Youtube that someone has up and it is killer and Mayer can't touch it. PERIOD!! Look it up when you can but you might already know what I'm talking about.

Mayer is one of the best blues players of his generation. If you don't agree you don't understand what the hell you are talking about.
Squarehead29 3 months ago 75
@Squarehead29 Yaa, I'm a big john mayer fan actually, but your comment just doesn'y hold any water musically... Mayer as a musician isn't a blues guitarist, he plays the blues well, but his other varied styles leak into his lines and you really can't compare him to the many blues players you probably havn't heard of because they havn't written a hit song, no offense but a really bold comment coming from someone who likely doesnt know what the fuck they are talking about
DanSherkinMusic 3 weeks ago 7
@DanSherkinMusic well said.
DiamondMusicChannel 3 weeks ago
@DanSherkinMusic I'm just going to say "what?" because your comment is really weird... or maybe I just didn't understand it but..If JM didn't play any Blues I wouldn't listen to anything he did. I knew him because of the blues THEN I'm listening to what he does because I like his own style ("guitarly" speaking) There's a huge bunch of musics from JM that I can't stand, in fact every mellow pop songs gets on my nerves. Blues doesn't need 'hit songs" to be good by the way...
VintageSH 1 week ago
@DanSherkinMusic That's really not fair at all. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and whilst I don't know a plethora of blues guitarists, of those I have heard, Mayer is easily up there. To say he isn't a blues guitarist at heart is wrong I think. Mayer simply realises that certain styles of music are popular these days and if he wants to get people to listen to his blues (which I believe is what he truly enjoys playing) he has to draw them in with his more popular tracks eg Heartbreak
asib12 4 days ago
@asib12 Take a step back and think about this for a moment, anybody who plays the blues and the guitar is a blues guitarist. Mayer is also a singer songwriter. I like catchy tunes, that's why music is catchy, but a players career direction/decisions really aren't in the same ballpark as his rank of blues playing.
DanSherkinMusic 4 days ago
@Squarehead29 You mean, The BEST BLUES PLAYER OF OUR GENERATION, don't you? Lol, cuz he is.

@airronic Nope, i'm sure there are plenty of great blues players that just play in their bedroom, Mayer is just the lucky one who got a break.

Hes old so he gets pumped up into something hes not. emacification 4 months ago
@JAZZFUNG1 ya mate..that finger is for you and all douche bags here that think eric is even close to Mayer in talent!
emacification 4 months ago
@emacification At the end of the day, it's a matter of opinion as to who the "best guitarist" is. I believe Clapton is one of the best blues guitarists that has ever lived along with SRV, Hendrix, BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, etc... To say that he sucks, I don't quite understand, I love his playing. He has a very distinct and original style which has influenced so many current players that are amazing (including Mayer).
Heliocopter8 4 months ago
@Heliocopter8 You dont quit understand love?...well that the fuckin problem! I was there...was you? asshole? In those days Clampton was nothing compared to others during the time. Thats the factsand I got a wennie you can suck on if you dont like it! hehehe There is no comparing Mayer with Clapton...none! I mean any asshole that 'understands' talent can see it! He sucks..period! Look at some old live clips here of Clampton at Mayers age...hehehhe again no comparing the 2.

@emacification
Live clips of "CLAMPTON." lol
67goldtops 4 months ago
@67goldtops O..OK love...I got it. You say he was at his best during that time..OK I agree AND IT SUCKED!! His best is todays teeny bopper band! As far as the blues, he is just another white guy trying to sound black! When I want to hear the blues I go to Buddy Guy or a white guy that grew up around it like SRV or Billy Gibbons. To say some gayish english dude can play like them is bulls shit!! Your level for understanding good music is limited you retard!

dude u don't know wtf u r talking about. clapton was high on heroin during most of his time during blind faith, then he was drunk during most of the 70's and 80's. if u want to see why people say "clapton is God" u have to go to his days with the Bluesbreakers and Cream.

HEY.. you notice you are defending ol Erick (hehehhe) less and less and now calling me, (a mild mannered man) bad names? The facts remain!
emacification 4 months ago
@emacification
dude when clapton was in his early 20's he created the overdrive distortion sound, introduced the Gibson with marshal stacks combo (that's now a standard in modern rock music), introduced the wha-wha pedal to the world and single handedly created the rock/blues genre of music with the "Beno" album. Even Hendrix was influenced by clapton. WTF did john mayer do when he was 20? Rock music as we know it may never have existed if it wasn't for clapton (same goes for Hendrix).
1stHokageSama 4 months ago
Ahhh ok..he was drunk and on heroin...well whatever he sounded like shit!!! Only a retarded moron would call a drunk heroin addict a 'god'. Your also full of shit about Hendrix. Everybody knows Buddy Guy influenced him. Its funny, the only guy that Hendrix spoke of as being a great player was Billy Gibbons! Never a word from him about your drunk heroin addict! Give it up asshole., Ill give him "OK" as a player but thats IT! Hes not even on the same page with Mayer! hehehehehe RETARD!!!!

@emacification
67goldtops 4 months ago
@67goldtops Where was there...nice..I understand..your to damn retarded to know what I was talking about so im not going to try. Wow love..what you smoking? Look, you love Clapton ...wonderful! I like him a little myself. I had the cream albums...but for any asshole to say the guy should be rated as on of the best is retarded and smokes to much..like you fuck head! You like real blues..go watch and liston to some early ZZ Top with Billy Gibbons. Sorry, even brother Allman didnt help...lol
emacification 4 months ago
@emacification
WOW, there's some intelligent writing...
67goldtops 4 months ago
@67goldtops look retard...you got my point and im proud of you. Your a fuckin douche to even make the comment he was the best from 66-72....hahahhahahaha thats plain bull shit! Anybody reading this can go back and check out his talent during that time. He fuckin sucked. Live he was painfull to listen to. Go look you fuckin moron! (hows my spelling so far?) His songs were simple and any teeny band today could play them! There is no way you can compare him to the talent of Mayer.
