Whatever your position about same-sex marriage is, nothing in the constitution gives the right for people of the same-sex to be married. It would be unconstitutional if it denied gays to get married, but that isn't the case. I realize that gays wouldn't marry as a matter of incident, but it is the case that people of the same sex couldn't get married, not people of same-sex preference.

And what's this "created in God's image" crap. Leviticus 18:22 "It is an abomination." How is that created in God's image? Or is God gay?

I didn't sidestep anything. My entire point was to illustrate how the GENERAL attitude towards gays has NOT been as sweet and innocent as Prager tries to paint it. He's clearly trying to whitewash how gays have been and are treated with stuff like "WE want gays to be happy" which has clearly never been the case. @ScandalousVandal It does. If it's OK to separate them --to say thier union isn't as "official" as yours or mine --their love thier family isn't as real as yours. they are not as human. It's the "separate drinking fountain" of marriages. You could just as easily argue that Jim Crowe laws had nothing to do with hate crimes in the 50s. The whole "redefining marriage" label is just a pretty phrase to cover up legislating homophobia and imposing bigotry into law.

My point was that stuff like "we want gays to be happy" is a clear whitewash of the historical record as if "gay marriage" were the ONLY real issue on the table when it is clearly not. Who, 20, 30 years ago, advocated such respect for homosexuals. No one. They just waved bibles and beat the shit of them.

People can't just be against gay marriage (or illegal immigration, or the policies of Obama, etc) w/ out being bigoted, homophobic, racist, Islamaphobic, etc. Opposition to these things is all about hate and racism---and thus, the debate is ended---as who wants to debate w/ a hate-filled bigot? Progressives have been wrong about every utopian theory since Karl Marx. Just as surely as economic redistribution will lead to economic collapse, redefining marriage will lead to the collapse of civilization. Just think about it...if two men can marry..why not three? The entire battle is over the word "marriage." There is absolutely no reason to redefine this term. However, there are many reasons to allow gay unions with all the same "equal" rights that marriage represents. Gaylords need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Just about everyone in this country is ready to give gays (GLHTSTGFs) their rights in this matter, but we're not going to change our most sacred tradition.
