  • Great Song :-)

  • i love her songs.Especially karen

  • Not a big fan of this music but Karen was an amazing singer with a great voice and she didn´t need some stupid vocal gimmicks to sound good ala christina aguilera.

  • sad

  • Wow! This song always brings back a time for me when it first played on the radio - 12 years old, awkward, goofy, awful adolescence. Crushes on girls who would never notice me in return. That frustration and small sense of loneliness dovetailed perfectly with this song every time I heard it. The lyrics made me feel that I wasn't the only one who was sad. It will always be special because of that. :-)

  • Quite The Intelligence Community in I Am Music! Karen Carpenter as Her Majesty and His Bride to Be! What a Voice!...signed, Rob O!...in this FM STEREO she must mean!

  • My 1st time to see and to know that Karen Carpenters play a drums. Nice video clip. Many thanks for uploading.

  • singing while playing drums, Amazing

  • amazing voice, Warms my heart. every time I hear this song

  • kanye, gtfo the side of my video!

  • It's a Shame that Fame kills so many young people.

  • Tomorrow gonna be another Monday blue again

  • Trying to work out when listening to this beautiful, powerful song, there is a link to Nicki Minaj - Super Hoe? Is this just to show whats going wrong with music today?

  • @MartyWilletts Thank you.. I totally agree with you! what happened to Julie Andrews, The Beatles, and Karen herself? they just kinda faded away... I know a lot of people still listen to them but...not everyone.. just the terrible stuff released against it like super hoe which is all machines and not any talent. Thanks to youtube for keeping Karen's voice rich!

  • @GMODYAY Julie Andrews lost her voice due to a botched throat surgery, Karen Carpenter starved herself to death and the Beatles broke up.

  • @jejozi What I meant was that no one really listens to their songs anymore because they were all big and famous in the past and todays music is terrible but somehow still popular.

  • wow, such a beautiful song, the song make's me think of my life, sometime's we are alone but,if you can see good in the world and in people around you'then you are not alone beacuse you have friend's,you never knew were there, god bless.

  • @magicti so true. i have learnt that you'll never be alone if you can see good and beauty in who and what surrounds you, and if you greet the world with a smile, no matter what is going on in your life.

  • Will Ferrell on sax ladies and gentlemen.

  • @ProtagorasEmber

    :) hhhhh

  • Karen is one of the seven wonders of the world.

  • I know this song from the x-files, and i really love it.

  • Pure, crystalline voice......simple yet poignant, todays so called singers should take a lesson from this amazing woman......Karen gone too soon, yet her voice will live forever....

  • She was great. So was her brother. As for the era, people mocked the '70s for two decades...til they realized that it was probably the best decade in recorded music. Look what we have now. It's remarkably pathetic. Ain't it though?

  • What a VOICE! What a talent! What a LOSS! What a sad DISEASE! Yes, it was and is a disease. Get help if you have anorexia or bulimia.

Seriously, WE MEN truly don't care if you have a few 'extra' pounds - that is SOCIETY and pressure of the stupid irresponsible mainstream media who tell you that - or stupid insensitive men. I don't want a 'perfect' woman for what place would she want with me, an imperfect man?

Remember, God loves us AS-IS and if you cannot find a guy/girl who does, dump them.

  • I think it's sickening that there's a huge ad for a song called "Stupid Hoe" by Nicki Minaj right underneath this video... How dare you disgrace Karen Carpenter's memory and her talent with that placement Vevo! HOW. DARE. YOU. Nicki Minaj doesn't have 1 billionth the talent of Karen Carpenter. She should be scrubbing toilets somewhere, not plastered all over the Internet with pink hair and a snarly expression on her face. Disgusting.

  • @reapupshadow indeed, yes. I was very sad to learn that she was dead, but there will always be in my heart.

  • Sad thing about Karen Carpenter, is that she died of anorexia.

  • It is the curse of creative perfection/of beauty beyond description, that in he face of this perfection and purity there is the human factor of self destruction...kinda makes me mad.I swear ....I miss her

  • Really love carpenters very much..No other singers just like them..

  • Before anyone knew about anorexia, kind of opended the door on this malignant disease--I think it is too much unrealistic idealization of women but that is for another venue I guess, her voice is angelic and the music, beyond words

  • saddens me still she was so pretty yet she couldnt see how much of a beautiful person she was her voice was pure magic full of emotion.

  • I love Karen Carpenter, as a Child I wished to be near her-Especially Christmas - Merry Christmas Darling- To You Karen if only I could have been there- Sit On Top of the world sweet girl, There Are no more Rainy days for you- what a lasting impression wow!!!!!!

If Only if some-one heard your pain, You have just begun.........

your voice is like an angel singing, I will forever sing your songs.....

an anorexic -your music is my food!!!!!!!

  • I should of been born in the 1970's... but oh well, this is fate, I'm here in lousy 2012.

  • beam me back to the 1970's ..2012 music sucks..

  • Excellent song - I love the Carpenters - What a great loss...

  • Is it wrong to still get emotional over her passing? Probably..but when I was 13,I was devastated. Such a lovely girl. Wished I was older to marry her and stop her from dying

  • What a wonderful song.... beyond me how can 15 people say they disliked it...

  • I love the Carpenters! Such beautiful music!

  • 15 people have no ears

  • How could she sing and play the drums at the same time and still do both perfectly?!?!?!?! She made them all last forever...

  • It is too exquisite==poignant---this song is embedded in my melancholy teen years, evey word hits me, except for find someone who loves me

  • The Best !!!!!! Will Miss Her Forever !!!!!!!!!

  • TIMELESS AND BEAUITFUL BRINGS BACK INCREDIBLE MEMORIES WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just another beautiful song from one of the the best singers ever.

  • Combination of Paul Williams lyrics + Carpenters music unbeatable--This song has been a favorite of mine since my melancholy teen yrs

  • This video made me cry, the song in its self kind of expresses Karen's life. Shes so beautiful, thankyou for sharing your talent with the world while you had time on this earth, rest in peace

  • Que tema, QUE tema...

  • i came here to express my sensitive side

  • im here to explore my sensitive side.

  • Poor, poor Karen. A tragic victim of the world's image obsession.

Karen, you were beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Your voice was incredible. If only the world could have had more.

  • im gonna cry man :'(

  • such an expressive voice warmth vunerability beauty all there

  • wow i miss you karen.

  • Before Adele, there was Karen.

  • If this doesn't describe depression to a tee, I don't know what does.

I always liked this song, even as a child. I didn't quite fully understand the meaning of the song, but the tone of the music came thru loud and clear.

I appreciate this song even more so as an adult. Kudos to Paul Williams for this piece.

  • Sad yet somehow optimistic.

  • god i love tyhis song so much--Im so melancholy

  • @warren3427 & seyidahmed, THANKS! THAT'S THE SONG! "Close to you."

  • Am I the only one who came here frm The wiiiered part of Youtube????????

  • so nice !!!

  • Dear webmaster, I'm still searching for that favorite song of mine when Karen sings something like..."Why is it that when ever I see you the birds come out & sing..." Anyone?

  • @anthropod4 You're most probably thinking of Close to You......"Why do birds suddenly appear, every time you are near? Just like me, they long to be close to you."

  • @anthropod4 it It sounds like "Close to you" poosibly--actually, im fairly sure

  • Canción de Paul Williams Karen.....que recuerdos!!!!!!!......tambien amaba a esta mujer

  • @fernandosabattini I agree 100%!!

  • @warren3427 Si! gracias- suerte y felicidades

  • I have only 14 years, I am Spanish and the only thing I can say about The Carpinters and especially of Karen: BEAUTIFUL. wordless :'(

  • @worldofdie7 Say "I am only 14 years old".

  • @jcspeb010 Sorry, therefore I said that I am Spanish. I can not speak English too well.

  • @worldofdie7 Do not worry your little head. We got the message loud & clear. Your English is much better than my Spanish.

  • @worldofdie7 Real music from the heart from real people. Even the lyrics speaks for itself.

  • It's monday and it's raining. Perfect storm for this song :)

  • @MsKikiLaRue Are you in California right now? lol That's exactly the same reason I came to this song. lol

  • @BlotBlackInk Yeah! I'm in southern cali. hehe. Stay Dry! ^_^

  • @MsKikiLaRue Haha, youtube is awesome...

  • love how she plays the drumms.

  • i wish she wouldnt have given up

  • I grew up in Santa Fe Springs,CA. Downey, CA the city next door is where Karen and Richard lived. I remember the City was so excited when they broke out in the music industry. And, our City's turned dark when she passed at Downey Community Hospital. I remember writing to them and asking for an autographed picture. They wrote back, I remember being so excited. RIP, Lovely Karen.

  • Love your songs Karen. So sorry you're gone. Thanks so much for the beautiful music.

  • her voice 's too good for this world

  • Even after forty years, this song still holds the same appeal for me. i still enjoy Karen's voice as I did four decades ago.

  • 好喜歡她的聲音~

  • Well today is Rainy Day and it is Monday! This is a 40-year old song and I still love listening to this esp. when it is cold and I need something to make me fall asleep... :0

  • Fact: This is a 1971 song of the Carpenters... Karen died in 1983, aged 32... So video is made 14 years after the song and 2 years after Karen died which is in 1985.

  • I remember listening to Casey Kasem during his AT40 show when I found out that Karen died. She was one of my most favorite artists at the time.

  • Oh my God, this is not the Carpenters... I've been wondering who this song was by since i was, like, 12...

She has such a gorgeous voice! definitely my favorite band from the 70's :)

  • Always loved this song...I was young when it was playing on the radio. R.I.P.

  • the ad before this video can suck my anus

  • i listened to this song a lot..my first love.....we broke up....and this song came on the radio..listened to it a lot..never left me..one of the Carpenters best songs...

  • Kalo Inget Carpenter waw inget nyokap kalo lagi bersiul dengan lagu2 dari carpenter...begitu juga dengan kaka gue...penggemar berat Carpenter thanx u'r posting Bro... Hope a Succes 4u

  • Almost have to feel sorry for the young people today who have to listen to todays garbage music!

  • now who's lady googoo again?

  • Terrific song. It's kind of a bittersweet irony that it essentially ends with a sort of uplifting feeling of knowing that you're going to endure these depressing feelings. It's probably my favorite of theirs. I think it was written by Paul Williams. All their early hits were someone else's work. This was by Paul Williams. Close to You was Bacharach and David. Only Just Begun was a bank jingle that Richard re-worked. He felt a lot of pressure to try to match that stuff but couldn't.

  • I always loved Karen Carpenter and the Carpenter music. I had an eight track tape player in my car, with the Carpenter tape inserted. The thief took my tape player, but threw the 8 track on the floor. I was at least thankful he had no taste. Probably would have taken the tape if it had been Three Dog Nite or Steppenwolf.

  • How can anyone dislike The Carpenters?...Karen was awesome...when she recorded a song...she only had to do it in one take.

  • Most beautiful voice Ever!!!! My parents had the "Close to You" album & I loved it because my young aunts used to play it when I was 3 yrs old while babysitting me. Im 45 yrs old & stilll love this forever timeless music!!!!!

  • 14 people must live in the desert, and go by something other then the Mayan Calender.....geesh...

  • Fuck you VEVO!

  • Her voice was so beautiful.

  • linda voz.

  • You can tell Richard is a little "luded" out in some of the shots. Quaaludes ... wow, I remember them!

  • quanta saudade...dos bailes que ia com a namoradinha e amigos e amigas de juventude...ah se eu pudessse voltarrrrr Só aconteciam coisas bôas,maravilhosas.

  • Sad-sweet Karen Carpenter-Paul Williams masterpiece

  • I wish so bad that there was another singer that could make me feel the music the way Karen Carpenter does. She sings so effortlessly and her voice just pierces my soul. I mourn for all the beautiful songs she never was able to sing.

  • Amy Winehouse did an informal 1 take version of A song for you at her home in early 09,she broke down halfway through as though she was singing her life story.

It will be on her new Hidden Treaures album out Dec 5th.

  • The puriest voice ever ! Such a tragedy. I made a lot of memories with her songs playing. RIP Karen. FOREVER YOUNG.

  • Though the Beatles and Rolling Stones were still in the forefront when this song came out, Karen Carpenter was revered even then....such passion and feeling in that voice....

  • Although I adore Karen's voice and skill, the opening stills here have caused me to wonder - What, beyond her brother, did her eyes see? Her body image, given her weight loss, must have been other than what we observed on camera, but for the first time here I noticed how rarely her gaze is at rest during a performance, the sole common exception, that I've noticed, being Richard. A tragic loss, but I'm uncertain how far she was truly with us.

  • Another Paul Williams classic--her voice is so incredibel--

  • back in the 1970's didn't listen to the carpenters, their songs were too sad sounding.now 2011 can't stop listening to that voice.she is good company on those long, lonely drives from the midwest to the east coast

  • why the hell would someone press the dislike button to this music

  • This song brings back so many good memories from my youth in the 70s.

  • great lyrics to a great song!! Loveeeeee it!!!

  • Voice of an Angel. may she RIP

  • Oh, my God! What voice!

  • Listening to the cars with their tires making that lonely sound they always make on wet pavewment. The air is alive with moisture and it's all a shade of grey that feels so impersonal yet full of emotions.

  • When i listen to the Carpenters, i'm taken back to the time my mate first discovered i knew the songs and decided that i was to sing to him whenever he couldn't sleep. This was his personal favourite. Miss him something fierce :(

  • Oh i love the carpenters they're my guilty pleasure :)

  • Oh i love the carpenters they'er my guilty pleasure :)

  • her voice is beautiful. you've gotta love this song, seeing as it's sunday today

  • Apesar de tantas Divas, acho que essa menina tem a mais linda voz que eu já ouvi. Talvez, se ela fosse feliz, não cantasse assim.

  • I miss you so much mother...

  • her voice makes me wanna date white girls..

  • still remains one of the best female voices ever.

  • I just wonder what's wrong with 14 people who disliked this video? they shouldn't have watched this if they don't want it, ryt??

  • wow,, never saw this vid before,,, exellent,,,

  • I didn't fit in the crowd because I listened to the Carpenters in school back in the 70's. I didn't care. Screw the crowd. Follow your heart. R.I.P. Karen. You reached into my soul.

  • Karen, you were just so special for this world, the voices of the stupid people made you feel bad and dissapear slowly from this world, but you remain untouchable in our hearts.

  • nice song

  • A PESAR DEL TIEMPO KAREM TE SEGUIMOS EXTRAÑANDO SIEMPRE TUS TEMAS ESTAN Y ESTARAN EN NUESTRAS REUNIONES

  • no need to talk it out , we know what's it's all about...SOOO Gangster !!

  • your fucking me 500,000 views...

  • It wasn't COOL to love the Capenter in the 70s, but we all did.

  • @wilmaprowhaggard I have got to give you credit on your confession because it's true. I bet that you're probably one of those deep purple, johnny winters or led zeppelin lovers. Around that time I myself was about 12 and into the same stuff always looking for new sounds. That was the moment for what was to come in the 80's and what we keep on listening to today. It's all about emotions. You feel it, you love it. You just cannot avoid being melted away Karen's heavenly voice.

  • YEP

  • I was never a big Carpenters fan, but this song has been in my head and played itself at times when the mood has fit for the last 40 years, from the time I was 17. That speaks for itself about Karen and this song.

  • Beautiful voice and song.

  • Love Karens voice. So Clear !!!!! R.I.P <3

  • "Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you

It's nice to know somebody loves me

Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do

To run and find the one who loves me"

    Karen, I love u <3

  • This is soo Beautiful!

  • I have always loved Karen Carpenter ever since I was small child as her voice not only made me feel happy and loved but painted a tapestry of the world far better than it actually was and I was devastated when I learned that Karen had gone, I thought at the time how can she die when she's so young gifted and beautiful and what hope is there for the rest of us if an angel can be cruelly taken! I really believe that some people never truly die and Karen is definitely one of them. Xx

  • @MrWhamster1 ME TOO!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Well this is great. I came here to escape the corrupted music of 21st century and enjoy the real music from the 1970's, and here it is an enormous border of Justin Bieber in a perspective as it is dominating the video player. I am not watching this without fullscreening it >:-(

  • @spamdude060 I whole heartedly agree as its such an audacious insult having a plastic phoney's image massively dominating such a wonderful talent and beautiful human being that is Karan Carpenter

  • I'ts a beautiful song is very pretty

  • No Comments... Just wonderful t ear once more this lovely song in the words of a Great Artist

  • Como algo puede ser triste y tan bello a la vez...

Gracias Carpenters por moverme los sentimientos...

  • nice voice in the music industry............

  • In the mid 70's I recall hearing karen sing and though to myself that she had a fancy voice with slang. It wasn't in till the late 90"s when public television had their telethon and aired Remembering the Carpenters, pointing out that there really hasn't been anyone quite like her since that I caught on.Lately with the web one can find around 200 different songs with her singing.I'd say all her songs are #1 hits.

  • Karen and Richard hit #2 in Billboard, 6-19-71. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, Karen.

  • a voice for the ages

  • simplemente, sublime DEP

  • ,uy,uygjg

  • I did get to see them live at Pine Knob back in "71-72" about that time frame, and still remember that voice, sent shivers down Ur spine......

  • for certain one of the greatest female singers ever ! Just to good to last, to bad they didnt have appropriate treatment back in the late 70's else she would be here today, taken way too soon ! RIP, my dear girl ! sleep gently .............

  • she scares me .Her voice was really really apropriated to be used in horror movie such as 4008 . It's scaring !
