I always loved musicals with muzak backings. Always suits the classics. I still don't know why these just never seem to play on UK television. The public could really learn a mod or two from stuff like this.
In fact, it could've even been a series of diary entries narrated by none other than Charlie himself. Untold stories, if you will. That might actually explain a lot about the negative continuity of many Peanuts cartoons and even a few comic strips. The Happiness scene certainly implies a checkpoint nearing the end of the kids' adventures as we've known 'em. But of course, there remains more ta come.
The original play's message? Being a good person means trying your best and making the most of the things you've been given in life.
...So tell me, does trying one's best and all that jazz get you into the Majors? Because I still don't foresee the track record of Charlie's team going anyplace. That might explain why I'm glad the cartoon is random and not unified, especially with Linus believing Lucy's so-called little-known facts.

Bogus even fer them. Anyhoo, as the final scene progresses, I believe they're not faking it at all. I believe they're genuinely happy ta see him...like pals. Also, take note of the implied chemistry between Linus and Sally.
Happiness: And once everything is said and done, we move on to...*sigh*...the Li'l Folks' most beautiful moment ever. We got a lovely night (stars and moon), pretty music, and a girl and her younger brother watching the stars together and having a friendly chat. BTW, look closely at Linus, Lucy, and Sally's expressions when Charlie approaches them the next day. "Here he comes! Smiley faces, everyone!"

Of course the REAL amusement starts when Snoopy fantasizes about being a wild animal. Heh heh, those pesky canaries. And the book report? Crazy! :P
T-E-A-M: Leave it to this Broadway play to follow up to Be My Valentine about Sally: same class as everyone else, and now she's on the baseball team... Wait a second. I can't believe my eyes! In the middle, we see Linus and Schroeder getting along with their respective admirers enough to dance with them! If you can CALL it dancing.
Schroeder: No wonder Schroeder won't return yer feelings. Oh, get a load of her fantasy. So much fer women's lib...and I ain't got much ta say there.
Random: Again, Valentine's Day really doesn't agree with PP or Marcie if they don't send Charlie anything. Jerks. "All the boys I like." Violet, Sally, Marcie, it's an epidemic. I think I liked it better with Violet. Which leads me to wonder which former queen Lucy plans to replace.
The opening: Nothing much to say, everything's miserable as ever. Isn't it the least bit odd that everyone's calling Charlie a good man while knocking him about? And listen to some of those lyrics. "You believe what you're told." "Also have some faults yadda yadda." "If only you weren't so wishy-washy!" Why don't you all do the boy a favor and BUTT OFF? Especially you, Lucy.
The original Broadway play You're A Good Man, CB, which came out around 1967 same as A CB Christmas, had more of a unifying plot: Everybody suddenly calls him a good man without cause, and he aims to find out why. On the other hand, this cartoon makes no attempt to piece any of the scenes together into one unified entity: It's as random as it gets, and the story gives way to the songs quicker than any cartoon released thus far. Well, Schulz DID say music was integral to it.
We have now reached the closing point of 1985, and the beginning of the end of the 1980s for the Li'l Folks. Hits and misses abound as always, but now it's time to wrap up one of the most definitive periods for the Peanuts cartoons. How do they go about doing that? By giving us a series of chronicles that once again remind us of certain hallmarks in the franchise, like an anniversary of sorts.
Now the UK is a failure face, with a warped zigzag economy, an unstable eurozone & a vacantly expressed parliament that could only be fixed if the Prime Minister was Snoopy. The beagle would be a better PM than Tony Blair, Gordon Brown & David Cameron combined, with the other Peanuts as the government MPs. And as for Margaret Thatcher, she makes Lucy look almost angelic...
