I cannot believe how well Arnel is doing with Journey. I know there are haters out there but putting "open arms" vids up side by side...the sound is nearly identical but I honestly think that Arnel puts more passion into the lyrics. I would rather see this journey than the one i grew up on.
...has anyone taken the time to see arnel do other artists? ..he could have brought back Led Zeppelin, Gun's N Roses, or others....he is DAMN good at singing.
If anyone wants to compare Arnel & Steve in terms of record sales it would not be fair since today's music trends and tastes are very different than in the 80's, what today is called AOR was youth oriented back in that time and that segment of the market is where the big money is

If Journey and Arnel can get a new hit that makes it to the top10 and selling the venues and seats that Journey and SP had, then I will stand corrected. I respect originality and haven't heard it yet. Arnel has a good voice but I heard him emulate other great singers - and he did it quite well.

Arnel has been with Journey for less than a year and Journey's new album with Arnel "Revelation" has just gone platinum. Journey just finished a very successful summer tour, not bad for a new lead singer. Journey's future with Arnel? Let's just hope it has a positive impact which is another measure of greatness.

saw journey in concert last night. i tell you what, journey is back stronger than ever. arnel w/journey nailed every song. steve perry was the voice, but he no longer wants anything to do with journey anymore, too bad his loss cause journey sure ain't losing.

Lots of young people have plenty to learn from someone like Arnel. It's not simply about replacing someone like Steve Perry. Arnel knows Perry can never be truly replaced by anyone.But he's now living the dream his Mother had for him.And you can't beat that.
IF he can't sing anymore(by the way,WHO could sing after screaming at a baseball game all night?)it is because he gave it all to Journey. You can't sing that catalog of songs the way he sang it song after song night after night year after year forever. God gave him a gift and he gave it to Journey and to us. STEVE PERRY is the BEST singer this band has ever had/will ever have, not only for his voice but because he co-wrote the songs we now hear AP sing. Even AP acknowledges this. My point is that I hope that AP is not dumped if he experiences medical issues like SP and then SA. This seems to be the pattern for Journey.

No, no. In several songs the music was rewritten is parts. They changed the endings to a some of the songs as well. They seemed to be going for a live type of feel on the rerecordings.
If you haven't eve got the new package why are arguing about it? You don't know.
Though I don't believe that SP can EVER be replaced,I can't help but root for AP. He is obviously a very talented,warm,and charming person. However, rooting for Journey is hard for me. I think they lost me when they re-recorded their classics. What a self-indulgent unnecesary thing to do. Ross V. talks of honoring their legacy. This is not the way to do it. the re-recording of the classics was a deal with Wal-mart, Faith in the heartland was a deal with Kevin Shirley. I don't see any wrong doing the classics. I'm 18 and i don't even know a single hit from Journey since last year. Somebody told me they did Open Arms originally. I think it's a good idea that the younger generation would be able to hear the classics in a modern sound.... (with due respect to Perry, I think AP also rocks!)

I remember Journey with Perry and seen the Augeri shows.. Close comparison, but laking the suave soothing soul of Perry. This new guy is all energy but no soul, no soothing sounds, all energy. Soon energy runs out and so will the fans of this new singer. After all, no one goes to a Journey show for the new songs anymore. Well, they would if Perry was the singer. Augeri came the closest, but no cigar.

We all know Journey is cursed. The first Steve succumbed to illness, so did the second and now Arnel will be next... 3 years tops and he will be let go for medical reasons also and Journey then, will reform with Steve Perry to do 1 international show reunion tour and then retire permanently. The final show will be in San Francisco Nov 2010 or maybe Nov 2011
pcastillotx, i doubt it is going to happen, SP cannot sing anymore,have you seen his video lately with chicago white sox? dude he can't do it , his voice is done, no mas singing for perry..its sad but it's the truth, AP is the last one for Journey,,after this they are gone. It's a shame we always hear bad stories about the old country, most notably the crooked politicians but it is very refreshing some good news still come out. i live in los angeles and i've heard at least a million bands since i've been alive, i have been to the philippines at least 5 times, europe, canada & at least 8 states and i still believe the best bands i've ever heard are the ones in the philippines. its just an unfortunate shame that we as filipinos cannot share our talents with the rest of the world because of the difficulties of the immigration dept no thanks to 9/11.

I am not going to debate Steve vs. Arnel - but the fact is if Journey has new Filipino fans it's only because Arnel is Filipino - half the lolos and lolas in that audience have no idea who Journey is, only that their new lead singer is Filipino. If my driver, Nanding, was Journey's new lead singer, they come to see him too. BUT, if Steve Perry was not an integral part of Journey, they wouldn't have gone to great lengths to find someone who can SOUND like him.

Just as what SP did to the rest of the Journey band, he is also making his fanatics wait for his return. Because SP is 59 yrs old with a hip problem he may be able to sing but not with the "Voice" and energy needed for the world tour. With the "Voice" probably long gone his fanatics will be waiting forever for SP's return until they die heartbroken.

there are people who were born to sing.. others to sing and write but that doesn't mean that people who can't write are not a great talent. look at elton john, he's a legacy but most of his works he's not the one writing it. journey should continue their legacy. arnel is a great talent and i think everything in this world has a purpose. steve give up on his band journey but god provided arnel to continue the legacy. everything will always fall into places and it did.

He is okay but he can't write music. Steve wrote most of those songs. It just makes them seem like nothing more than a cover band. Good voice, but it stops there.
ok, the band does concerts with some of the old songs for the sake of old fans. Check out their new album REVELATION and you can hear their new songs. He sings the old songs but he sings the new ones as well.

Being married to a Filipino this story, of course, caught our attention! I just bought the new CD set for my husband for Father's Day. It is really good and Arnel does an incredible job, as do the original members. This story was very touching and amazing. Arnel deserves much happiness and we are so happy for Journey! Good luck to them and God bless. We also send good wishes to Steve Perry we miss him and wish him the best. Would be nice to see him again!
What a great story! Arnel sounds just like him, its fantastic! I wished all bands who lost their famous lead singers would be lucky enough to find another person that sounds like the original, to keep the memories alive while making new ones. We always say when a band gets a new lead singer its never the same without so-and-so, because the new voice is different. Good luck Arnel, and JOURNEY!!
I thought Arnel sounded very good. We all know that there will never be another Steve Perry but it is nice to hear their songs again. We will have the chance to go to the concerts again. He has a very good voice to carry the songs. He has a very inspirational story that would be appealing to alot of people. If Steve Perry is finished with the band then so be it I think he is missing out but at least he has someone singing his songs with the ut most respect. I think this is good for all of them.
I picked up this cd -Revelation- and wondered who this Arnel Pineda guy was. I was actually put off by him, and figured there was no way this could be any good -I'm 41 and grew up on this music. Man, was I mistaken. This guy is great -'God bless him'. I'll be buying this cd tomorrow.

Heh. I rewound when they said how old he was ... I was sure he was just a young guy, 30. But no, this man with the big voice is 40, and was homeless, and has struggled his whole life.

baby69--what is so wrong about honesty? listen to the interview you dillhole! the pain in his past gave him the ability to give soul to the music he sings. the band learned about his past & they still signed him on. you put too much stock on appearances and that makes you plastic. Keep in mind the old proverb,"ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan." AP will get to where he's going because he knows how to acknowledge his past.

I dont think so...Perry may be labeled as 'the voice' but it doesnt mean that he is better by the way he looks and sing journey songs for 20 years. Arnel is better in some aspects for months, his lifestory, his humility, and in a short period of time, Arnel has accomplished greater things and try to listen to both, I believe Arnel is more a rocker than Perry but Perry has been a legend and we respect that. Neil Schon believed in Arnel's talent, and that what's makes him a better man.

Hearing AP's account of his homeless childhood really brings this harsh reality out. For the kids stuck in this hopeless situation, the future is quite dim and few ever make it out. Fewer still accomplish what AP has. Overcoming that harshness in my opinion is a true testimony to AP'S inner strength & courage. If he can overcome such adversity, I'm sure anthing less, such as the idiotic comments I see posted here by envious people & by stuck-in-the past SP fans, is of no consequence.

european's june issue of GQ magazine didn't include this interview with Arnel. it features more of the bloody European Soccer Championship these soccer addicts! so unfair! I hope their tour in Europe around this time of the year will be successful. I'm sure they would be in British and Irish Isles as none of the teams are playing. In Italy, Germany, Spain and elsewhere will be supported by most filipino community so go Journey go!

I cannot believe how well Arnel is doing with Journey. I know there are haters out there but putting "open arms" vids up side by side...the sound is nearly identical but I honestly think that Arnel puts more passion into the lyrics. I would rather see this journey than the one i grew up on.
...has anyone taken the time to see arnel do other artists? ..he could have brought back Led Zeppelin, Gun's N Roses, or others....he is DAMN good at singing.

If Journey and Arnel can get a new hit that makes it to the top10 and selling the venues and seats that Journey and SP had, then I will stand corrected. I respect originality and haven't heard it yet. Arnel has a good voice but I heard him emulate other great singers - and he did it quite well.

Perry's mark on history that of contributing in making Journey phenomenal will never be erased. The question is will Pineda make his own legacy with Journey? Arnel has been with Journey for less than a year and Journey's new album with Arnel "Revelation" has just gone platinum. Journey just finished a very successful summer tour, not bad for a new lead singer. Journey's future with Arnel? Let's just hope it has a positive impact which is another measure of greatness.

Arnel Pineda has done an astonishing job, and he's incredibly humble.

I've never heard of Journey not until AP joined them. I realized the band is a legend ...good music and vocalists. No one can replace the original SP...I salute him...the rest that follows have their own magic as well. AP is equally talented with a different magic...should be no comparison.

IF he can't sing anymore(by the way,WHO could sing after screaming at a baseball game all night?)it is because he gave it all to Journey. You can't sing that catalog of songs the way he sang it song after song night after night year after year forever. God gave him a gift and he gave it to Journey and to us. STEVE PERRY is the BEST singer this band has ever had/will ever have, not only for his voice but because he co-wrote the songs we now hear AP sing. Even AP acknowledges this. My point is that I hope that AP is not dumped if he experiences medical issues like SP and then SA. This seems to be the pattern for Journey.

No, no. In several songs the music was rewritten is parts. They changed the endings to a some of the songs as well. They seemed to be going for a live type of feel on the rerecordings.
If you haven't eve got the new package why are arguing about it? You don't know.

Though I don't believe that SP can EVER be replaced,I can't help but root for AP. He is obviously a very talented,warm,and charming person. However, rooting for Journey is hard for me. I think they lost me when they re-recorded their classics. What a self-indulgent unnecesary thing to do. Ross V. talks of honoring their legacy. This is not the way to do it. the re-recording of the classics was a deal with Wal-mart, Faith in the heartland was a deal with Kevin Shirley. I don't see any wrong doing the classics. I'm 18 and i don't even know a single hit from Journey since last year. Somebody told me they did Open Arms originally. I think it's a good idea that the younger generation would be able to hear the classics in a modern sound.... (with due respect to Perry, I think AP also rocks!)

I remember Journey with Perry and seen the Augeri shows.. Close comparison, but laking the suave soothing soul of Perry. This new guy is all energy but no soul, no soothing sounds, all energy. Soon energy runs out and so will the fans of this new singer. After all, no one goes to a Journey show for the new songs anymore. Well, they would if Perry was the singer. Augeri came the closest, but no cigar.

We all know Journey is cursed. The first Steve succumbed to illness, so did the second and now Arnel will be next... 3 years tops and he will be let go for medical reasons also and Journey then, will reform with Steve Perry to do 1 international show reunion tour and then retire permanently. The final show will be in San Francisco Nov 2010 or maybe Nov 2011

i live in los angeles and i've heard at least a million bands since i've been alive, i have been to the philippines at least 5 times, europe, canada & at least 8 states and i still believe the best bands i've ever heard are the ones in the philippines. its just an unfortunate shame that we as filipinos cannot share our talents with the rest of the world because of the difficulties of the immigration dept no thanks to 9/11.

I am not going to debate Steve vs. Arnel - but the fact is if Journey has new Filipino fans it's only because Arnel is Filipino - half the lolos and lolas in that audience have no idea who Journey is, only that their new lead singer is Filipino. If my driver, Nanding, was Journey's new lead singer, they come to see him too. BUT, if Steve Perry was not an integral part of Journey, they wouldn't have gone to great lengths to find someone who can SOUND like him.

Just as what SP did to the rest of the Journey band, he is also making his fanatics wait for his return. Because SP is 59 yrs old with a hip problem he may be able to sing but not with the "Voice" and energy needed for the world tour. there are people who were born to sing.. others to sing and write but that doesn't mean that people who can't write are not a great talent. look at elton john, he's a legacy but most of his works he's not the one writing it. journey should continue their legacy. arnel is a great talent and i think everything in this world has a purpose. steve give up on his band journey but god provided arnel to continue the legacy. everything will always fall into places and it did.

Being married to a Filipino this story, of course, caught our attention! I just bought the new CD set for my husband for Father's Day. It is really good and Arnel does an incredible job, as do the original members. This story was very touching and amazing. Arnel deserves much happiness and we are so happy for Journey! I thought Arnel sounded very good. We all know that there will never be another Steve Perry but it is nice to hear their songs again. We will have the chance to go to the concerts again. He has a very good voice to carry the songs. He has a very inspirational story that would be appealing to alot of people. If Steve Perry is finished with the band then so be it I think he is missing out but at least he has someone singing his songs with the ut most respect. I think this is good for all of them.

baby69--what is so wrong about honesty? listen to the interview you dillhole! the pain in his past gave him the ability to give soul to the music he sings. the band learned about his past & they still signed him on. you put too much stock on appearances and that makes you plastic. Keep in mind the old proverb,"ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan." AP will get to where he's going because he knows how to acknowledge his past.

I'm sorry, it's NOT my style to read anyone's page(s) nor I intend to reside in the past. For the majority, AP's the man, and no one could take it away from him except the band Journey and the Almighty. For those who tried to close their eyes - continue listening. AP, go for it! well no wonder your just talking in circles.. lets remember why journey is even continuing with Journey its because of Perry leaving them the legacy to do so. I don't think I am living in the past because i am a journey and steve perry fan or augeri and if i become a ap fan I am going to their concert in oct. and the fans want to hear the songs they love the hits made popular by SP... and why did journey re-do these songs on revelation? because thats what the fans want and they know it

I'm surprised a lot of people are so ignorant. FYI it's not STEVE PERRY'S BAND in the first place so why Journey need to change their name? they are already Journey before SP joined the band. Perry doesn't wanna join JOURNEY anymore why some people don't get it. If he really wants to come back he already did it a long time ago. Journey is one of the best band & it's saddening if they stop playing music just because SP is not their front man anymore! I hope other people will be rational

After Steve Joined Journey it basically became his band he took journey to the next level would Journey be the same with out steve perry? we shall never know.. but I can say this.. I heard journey because of perry. Yes Journey had a huge following before perry but they reached their stardom because of Perry and no one can deny that fact..

bolester2 - SP will never be obsolete to Journey get your facts straight. No 1 there would not be an arnel if not for a Perry.. and Journey may not have risen to the stardom they did without him. Steve does have other projects he does, he isn't just home counting money and so what if he was. You can be an Arnel fan and not put down the legacy of journey. Yes Journey has proved they can go on with out Perry in the last 10 years this is nothing new.If you searched other sites JFans are excited

Clean your ears desireca46. Arnel is better than Perry. It doesnt mean that if your the first, he is forever the best. Arnel has the best personality/story and talent than Perry. NEver did Perry recieved a silver seagull ( ^__^ ) face the facts...that's why am saying Arnel is better, humble and has a different unique voice.

you really need to watch this video again they sound just like they did in their 80s hey day! all on the soaring tenor of SP.. his unique voice sounds like perry.. duh watch the clip! if Neal Schon got some guy who sounds like Prince or Ru Paul, you would still be bitchin right? coz you're gonna say they don't sound like Journey that you used to love. and if they do sound that Journey that you liked, you then would say "he's not Steve Perry". what the fuck man? Neal did all he could to reach out to Steve but all he got was lawyers. Bands move on and their sound might or might not change. It's all about music.

I dont think so...Perry may be labeled as 'the voice' but it doesnt mean that he is better by the way he looks and sing journey songs for 20 years. Arnel is better in some aspects for months, his lifestory, his humility, and in a short period of time, Arnel has accomplished greater things and try to listen to both, I believe Arnel is more a rocker than Perry but Perry has been a legend and we respect that. Neil Schon believed in Arnel's talent, and that what's makes him a better man.

Napaka inane naman nitong si baby 69.Why hide the story that has been written about him? I don't see anything wrong in admitting to a humble beginning.This is precisely the reason why a lot of die hard fans had a turn around.They did not know his back story and now that they realized how remarkable he is they find it hard to hate him. His is a feel good story.Why would Neal be disappointed surely when he is staring at the record of sale for the new cd that is farthest from his mind.

I don't get this SOB Story that baby 69 was talking about, for me admitting that you had failure and hardship in life is a strong and honest person, He got hired because NEIL SCHON knows what he looking for, he's not looking for his personal life and I'm sure the rest of the BAND had up's and down after all we are all human, nobody is flawless, if you can't accept him as a talented person because of his past and being honest about it then you have no reason to be here...

i don't see any kwentong busabos at all.. kung ikaw kaya ang nasa kalagayan niya, tignan ko lang kung hindi ka mapapaiyak sa pinagdaanan mo. What AP showed is his real strength, at hindi siya nahiya ng naiyak siya. Thinking of his mom and his past, tapos biglang ganito ang blessing na binigay sa kanya, he must have done something right.. kaya tgilan mo muna yang "sob story" ekek negativity mo, and be proud of someone like AP na kadugo natin.

Hearing AP's account of his homeless childhood really brings this harsh reality out. For the kids stuck in this hopeless situation, the future is quite dim and few ever make it out. Fewer still accomplish what AP has. Overcoming that harshness in my opinion is a true testimony to AP'S inner strength & courage. If he can overcome such adversity, I'm sure anthing less, such as the idiotic comments I see posted here by envious people & by stuck-in-the past SP fans, is of no consequence.

I was not a Journey fan, but only now. SP had his share of fame, so lets give AP a chance to prove after all AP's voice is the voice of a new generation.

This is just my opinion but I believe before
the took on a replacement for Steve Perry the
name "Journey" should have been changed also. To me there is only ONE Journey and
that time has passed. I wish Arnel the best
and I do think he has a great voice, but for
me Journey is no more. JMO. Under any other name I would love to go see them.

Neal and Ross are founding members of that band. should steve perry have changed his name when he did solo work? Granted we all love our Journey! I am thankful they find singers that can carry them on.. A true fan of Journey here and steves I miss him but i fell in love with Journey too steve didn't do it alone! They all contributed to the songs! i have seen steve live too!

european's june issue of GQ magazine didn't include this interview with Arnel. it features more of the bloody European Soccer Championship these soccer addicts! so unfair! I hope their tour in Europe around this time of the year will be successful. I'm sure they would be in British and Irish Isles as none of the teams are playing. In Italy, Germany, Spain and elsewhere will be supported by most filipino community so go Journey go!
