OMG WHAT HAPPENED TO UR BIRD?????????? i am very sorry but i am going to have to dislike this because well u obviously cant take care of that bird its terrible
OMG your parakeet is missing so many feathers i am pretty much an expert and i sudgest that you get either a cudle bone , food sprinkle , nutritious spray or try to get him or her to eat bananas or fruit , any ood source of calcium and potassium. plz take notice to this ... or you could buy a seperate cage for her to take some stress away.
Are these different varieties of Parakeet. "she" might be trying to establish a teritory and "he" is in the way. Or maybe the sexes are the other way around and the English budgie really doesn't want the "relationship"
Thanks for the comments. I never thought of social interactions as a cause of plucking. I just gave all the perches and toys a really good scrubbing since she rubs her head on stuff all the time as well. She is a really active parakeet so I like her to have the company.
I'm in no way an expert but I've always been taught if a budgie plucks itself it's because it's stressed - especially to that extent because it's literally bald all down the front, it's behaviour around Boris seems a little dominating too surrounding him from every possible angle, maybe keeping those specific budgies together is stressing them? Some people think they can just bunch them together but each has it's own personality and can clash. For Tweetie's sake, seperate + speak to a vet
well, i really want some budgies, ive done TONS of research on them, found a perfect cage and everything, but now suddenly my parents have said no, because you can get diseases from their droppings and in their opinion you shouldnt keep birds in cages, i've tried telling them that the disease is EXTREMELEY rare and that i would give my budgies exercise out of their cage, but they just wont listen :(
Listen to you parents, they have common sense. Regardless if you are a loving warm person-the pet business is dirty and it is filled with animal cruelty and neglect. If you had wings and belonged outside, wouldnt you want to stay outside and fly? I think so. Do not support animal captivity. Gorgeous creatures everyday are taken away from nature to be placed in circuses, zoos and pet stores-to live in cages and to be controlled by humans. Empathy my friend is a wise emotion.
Boris is my English Budgie and he is nine years old. He does not sing or chirp much, but he is a cool old man( or lady)! Tweetie does all the talking in this relationship.
@romeytheb The way you can tell if its a boy or girl is to look at their nose and feet. If the feet and nose are blue, your parakeet is male. If the feet and nose are pinkish brownish your parakeet is female!
Your budgie is plucking feathers - this could be a very serious sign. She might be doing it from boredom, so make sure there are lots of toys in the cage. It may also be a nutritional problem. No bird should naturally be plucking itself bald. Take it to an avian vet.
She has plucked them so much I don't think they will grow back, but it doesn't seem to bother her. I am going to post a new video of her singing. She seems to do about three or four different voices at once. Very talented bird.
@Ghostgal11 "Budgie" is short for Budgerigar, the species that these birds are. A parakeet is a 'little parrot' which includes, Budgies and other 'little parrots.'
perhaps birdie needs to be kept in a quieter environment. every animal needs a companion of his/her species, perhaps just separated but nearby. stress means environment too totally loud, active or noisy. Do birdy a good turn and change it's environment!
You NEED to bring that bird to a vet! its plucking its feathers that is SOO unhealty and shows that its stressed and unhappy! Dotn be lazy just go see a vet!
it's probably trying to mate. sometimes they get really stressed and pluck their own feathers. Simply put. The bird could just be a nervous reck. Some vets would put a cone on it, but when the feathers grow back, it'll just pluck them again.
Birds kept in captivity molt year round, rather than seasonally like wild ones, so this bird is definitely not in molt. Even a wild parakeet would not lose its feathers this drastically.
what a very sweet bird. please, please...if you haven't yet, take this poor thing to the vet! he/she is itchy and has a skin problem or is very unhappy and stressed.
@sveetpunkrose I just got my bird today, do you know what i should do with it? I just want to know how to detect if it has a problem, and how to make it happy ^^"
have you tryed teaching this bird tricks and giving her difficult toys, she seems full of energy. it could help keep her from pluking if she has more to do. verry sweet bird.
She's a little nut. She has a ton of energy and when she isn't singing to Boris she picks at her feathers. Now I don't think they will grow back. She is still the boss of the cage, though.
:( my parakeet used to always sing to this and eversince i clipped his wings hes all grumpy and stands still, idk if he tired because he was up all night yesterday but im gonna give him some sleep and see what happens
That"s Sweetie. He is just a typical green parakeet with a yellow head. He is an older bird because he has a dark blue cere above his beak. He used to be the partner of Tweetie until she dumped him, poor guy.
She started picking at herself one day and it became a habit. The others don't do it, so it may be an allergy or a compulsive behavior. She had done it so much that I don't think the feathers will grow back.
take her to a vet or an avian doctor. thats not normal. its one thing if a few fall out while she is cleaning herself, but if she is ripping them out of herself, there is something wrong.
I think she is just nagging him. Boris will come out of the cage and sit on my finger and Tweetie hates it because she doesn't like to be handled. She will get as close as she can to him and talk like crazy until he comes back. He is totally henpecked!
