I'm the same way. I'm a social outcast. I do my best to try and fit in but sometimes it doesn't work. Sometimes I die a little inside but everyday is a new day. I can relate to Dutch in so many ways. I hope that one day I will not remain social outcast. I do believe I can make friends. I just have to put my trust in the lord and good things will come to me.
I felt sorry for Dutch when he was taking all the insults from the killer, some of them were quite painful and were bound to leave a lasting effect but then he comes back in with swagger and pwns the guy and I was right there with dutch cheering for him, so when I seen him crying in the car I was effected by it even more because I thought he had just brushed it off but he was clearly on the brink of breaking down the whole time.
i've been searching for this song... and i can NOT find it! i saw someone posted on here what it's called but i youtube it and nothing comes up. does anyone know where i can find it??
One of the best scene in this TV show for me. Another one is when Wagenbach kills the cat. Dutch for me has the worst ending in whole show. SPOILER Why they didn't make him actually murderer? During the whole show he discovers his dark side more and more. I think it would be GREAT ending if Dutch actually kills this woman in last epizode and become one of the kind he was always chasing...
The serial killer in this episode (Micheal Kelly) later went on to get a great role in Dawn of the Dead as the rambo type security officer at the mall. Great actor! Only realized it was him because of his voice!!
Another reason for the "breakdown" was that the killer had been psycho-analyzing Dutch throughout the entire interrogation process. He called him out for feelings of inadequacy and social conflict which are part of what drove Dutch in his profession. The crying scene was validation for everything that the killer has said about Dutch, maintaining the theme that while Dutch was an amazing detective he was also a social outcast. That theme carried through the entire series.
@DavetheDweller Interesting, though I'm glad they didn't. The ending with Vick was heavy enough and somethin like that would have felt over-the-top. Thanks for sharing.
This was one of the most badass episodes ever on the show. He just takes the abuse while he calmly waits for the warrant to process, and takes the killer down ten pegs with half the Barn looking on. So good.
It's from the first season. Dutch had been trying to find a serial killer (which spanned a couple episodes) and he finally found the guy and got him to confess to murdering 23 people. Earlier in that episode, he confronts the guy (who works in an auto shop) and mentions that he only gets Spanish channels on his radio. When he gets in his car and turns it on, soft rock is playing which probably was the reason that he broke down - realizing it was all over and putting a killer behind bars.

Does anyone have the beginning of this scene where Dutch catches the serial killer? It's one the of the best scenes in the history of the show.

@capoeritos
I liked what they did with him. Motherfucker was able to kill a goddamn cat and still not step over to the dark side. That's some self-restraint.

@Rasha5377 I read that on the final episode, they were going to show dead bodies in Dutch's basement but Shawn Ryan didn't like the idea.

IIRC, a serial killer that he had gotten to confess got under his skin by making comments about his personal life..
From the first season I think...
