Are you using the Apple Video Cables. Cause when I use the Apple Video Cables it worked. It also worked for me with a 3rd party connecter. Maybe you just had a faulty dock.
Apple's website CLAIMS this dock supports video. However, I have tried 2 different universal docks. The older version apple sold 2 yrs ago has an S-video port. That one worked and supports video. I tried to use apples newer dock that requires their $30 AV cable and could not get video to go through to the TV. I tried on two different TV's using an iPhone 1st gen, an iPhone 3G, and a 160 gig iPod video. The results were alawys the same- S-vid dock worked, new universal dock is a piece of crap.
good video review, only negative about this dock adapter is that it doesn't have a mains charger so i can't hook it up to a stereo hifi, that why i decided to buy a 3rd party one, on top of that it's overpriced too compared to 3rd parties.
can the games be projected also? or just vids?

I use Apple's video cable. Unfortunately this cable will not fit directly into an iPhone. There is no way to bypass the dock.

Yes, you can use the dock without the USB cable, but the iPod will not charge if you don't have the USB cable connected.

you can also use the remote too without the cable.

good review but personally I think that this dock is a rip off for the features, ($50)

I recommend the usb charger adaptor with that cause that comes with the wall charger and an extra usb cord
