  • Thank you so much for your courage. I am so exhausted. I am going through all of your videos. I'm trying to find strength through your fight. Much luv.

  • Smart is very sexy.

  • God created watermelons, and then created humans to eat them. We did not have tools to use to cut watermelons into small pieces, so god gave us 2 nostrils so that we could still breathe, without having to stop eating, just in case the first nostril got clogged up with watermelon.

  • i wonder if starving africans get depression. I wanna look it up!...lol

  • liz do a new video vincenzo out

  • liz do a new video vincenzo out

  • is this fake or real??? she seems fake/over dramatic, kinda made me feel uncomfortable watching it, hate talking about that stuff..i guess its easier for women though

  • wtf is she talking about???? did you memorize your story from a collection of cheesy self-help books?? This is not how you feel trauma!!!!!!!!!!!! God! What a tool!

  • what a moron

  • Fascinating. Sorry about your experiences, but don't let being out of touch with reality bring you down. I absolutely love being out of touch with reality. I've created a whole universe of my own called G-rated shock value and made a video of it. So don't feel bad about not being able to connect with reality. Reality's boring. You should study surrealism. It's like a happier version of the nihilism you appear to be used to.

  • I've only got one nostril. It's better as it doesn't take as long to pick my nose!

  • Thank you for your video. your hair is nice also. May God help you.

  • Thank you for sharing. Those with a heart will hear you. I hope you are well, darling. As for your specs, there's barely a noticeable difference to this viewer :).

  • The `distortion`when you try to comunicate, thats just what I`m going through..I have trouble comunicating properly..anyway I hope things get better for you, you seem like a kind woman.

  • To all you punks, Liz is telling the truth. If you witless cowards care to contest her, you have my number. I'll be happy to feed you your own intestines.

  • Bottom line..... your looking DAM GOOD!!!!

  • word, chick, go out to the club i'll beat it out of you, know what i mean

  • Get a life: husband, children.... start to live for somebody alse, instead of thinking all the time about yourself!... Perhaps you'll get the point... you're too much self-centered most probably...

  • i think i like the hip glasses better :-) They kinda make you look like Alexandra Cabbot off of Law and Order SVU

  • Another fucking scientologist-idiot??? Shut your ass...

  • What a bullshit??? I wasn't using half of my nose for over 10 years (operation 2 months ago) and didn't have a problem with that..... :D :D

  • these people are crazy! go for the hip glasses. the color is great and makes you look beautiful. thank you for the video and best of luck to you.

  • I vote for smart glasses. Not boring, very hot. The other ones look good too.

Thanks for the video, really interesting.

  • What a great description of depression. I take my hat of to you. Its so comforting to know someone else "clockwatches" when theyre ill!!!! Peace, love :O)

  • smart glasses definitely

  • serious glassses.

good vid. I realize it's been a year since you posted this.

lost a wife to depression/bi-polar problems.

Hope you didn't do the ECT.

You seem articulate and coherent as well as attractive, but I do understand the hi's & lo's you are going thru.

  • See the video "nervous system health, depression, and the psyche"

  • pretty good video

  • Hart...Smip, you smart hippie, oh you!

  • ...We decided to take the ECT step and she has been a loooot better, tomorrow she is going to have her last ECT session and hopefully will be out of the hospital at the endo of the week. I loved to hear your experience and I will keep seeing all your videos cause you make me feel better about the treatment and looking forward to see more of you. you have a new friend here that appreciate a lot all you courage and will to life. Fash

  • ....I relay was reluctant about it because you can read all the side effects and negative campaigns there is around ETC, we get worried the time she told us she will better like to die instead of living with that distress and that was her only thought. ... continues

  • Thank you Liz for sharing your experience with this, my mother suffers with several depression and took all the meds available, then some doctor said that ECT will help her... continues

  • loved your video - looking forward to the next one - serious glasses

  • Hi, I just want to say, you are absolutely beautiful. Very very beautiful. :)

  • is there a robbey going on in the background

  • In no particular order = I cannot tell the glasses apart, largely because I focus on your jawline and cheekbones rather than eyes (maybe with larger screen?). I appreciate your candor, particularly on such a personal subject. Having read many of your articles & columns, I was already aware of your history, but hearing it is more powerful than reading it. Personally, I tried some medications for my own (mild?) depression, but found therapy less difficult and more productive.

  • the hip glasses

  • I'm a guy!

So all glasses look the same and I'm wondering how ur ti** look. (Sorry)

  • Hip glass definetvly

Damn I used that word twice today and i still can't figure out how to spell it corectly ...

Anyway, I hope you continue making these videos, You are one of the only personn on earth that can discuss dramatic subjects and still keep a smile on my face.

  • all i can say is me too.

it's so good to be hearing this from a fellow sufferer, rather than the sterile medical talk of dr's. makes me feel a whole lot more normal.

    can't wait for part 2.

  • Yeah, I can't wait for part 2 either, but I'm having trouble putting it together. I'm struggling with the right tone, and I don't really know how to use the video editing software, so that's a problem. I hope it'll be up soon.

  • Wow! Thanks for this, I was there as well. I don't talk about this, with anybody. I have used magnetic pulse devices (TMS) that I experimentaly made since 1988. Meds and TMS saved my life. ECT and TMS have similar results. Reading the comments, I love you all. Ask your doc about TMS.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • This bipole votes the hip glasses, definitely. The studious glasses overshadow your gorgeous eyebrows. While I was staying in one psych unit I got a day pass to visit my sister (having ECT at a different hospital psych unit)- hard stuff.

p.s. screw convention, talk for 20 minutes.

  • You should have talked for 20 minutes! I would've listened. I want to know the rest now, but waiting is more fun... Your story is so amazing and it's wonderful that you're no longer in that state of mind. Thank you so much for sharing. Oh, and I like both glasses =]

  • I appreciate you sharing your experience with us. :)

By the way, I like the "hip" glasses. B)

  • Hi, I started watching your films because your candid humour was hilarious. I was curiuos about the mental health issues as I experience these extreme highs and lows and dont feel that I fit in with the rest of society who seems to take life in their stride. Thank you for sharing such a personal and intimate story.

  • Absolutely riveting, LS. I was so drawn into your ECT experience. Thank you for your candor. And by the way - you look adorable in either pair of specs!!

  • to be able to talk for 12:16 minutes and still have someone be completely captivated in what you're saying takes a lot of talent!! you are so articulate and witty!!!

  • Thank you so much! The reaction is really gratifying.

  • I guess no glasses is not an option? It makes your face come out more, what about lenses?

Anyhow, indeed as many said, couragious story and for me (as a professional worker with juveniles that share much of the things you talk about)it's good to see someone taking the stand. I subscribed!

  • Glad to hear you're onboard. I have tried contact lenses, but they make my eyes itch.

  • My mom writes for the newspaper too!! Also, in my family, I've got the opposite. In my family, depression runs on both sides...I got out easy, but every time I get upset my mom wants to take me to therapy or just assumes I have depression! It's so annoying!! I like the thinner more reddish glasses. They're cute and interesting. The other ones are nice too, though. Oh yes apparently hip glasses won! Lol.

  • Your mom's just trying to help. I know it's annoying when your younger, but I'm so grateful now that my mom was looking out for me. She still is, actually.

  • As I mentioned before, my nephew has a bipolar disorder and it has been excruciating for him and my sister. It's so important for people like you to speak out about this, and try to make the general public understand, because they just don't have a clue. Thank you! You look great in both glasses by the way.

  • Great video I love that you have decided to talk about this.

Only teen boys lip syncing, animals playing, and vblogs about lonelygirl15 being a fake should be under 10 minutes. Don't worry about it running long informative topics should not be limited by time.

Lastly Hip or smart they both = Sexy

  • Thanks for the "sexy" thing. It's kind of hard to be sexy when you're talking about this stuff.

  • I like the glasses in your Director icon pic. Thanks for sharing with us about your background and the 411 on Mrs.Dukakis. Depression...a very intense subject.

  • Okay--hip glasses win!

  • Great video Liz. I could have watched a lot longer. Great timing what with the NY Times article today. You are fantastic (and both of the glasses are fantastic too!) Looking very much forward to the second installment.

  • The NY Times article really made me mad. I wrote about it at my blog (www.trouble.philadelphiaweekly.com). It was such a puff piece. I hope to even out the tenor of the debate.

  • i like the hip glasses :)

thank you so much for sharing your story and attempting to educate the masses even with a video blog. it's a great thing you're doing.

  • Thank you. So far, hip glasses have the edge.

  • A brave woman who looks lovely both in all her glasses (the smart ones line up with your eyebrows in a nice way) Your story is so well told. I identify with living with 'angry noise' in your head. I remember that from a terrible time in my life. There's no way to get away from that noise when you are in the grip except perhaps telling what the noise is like, & that seems so unkind. Ah the ugly spirals that drag you down & downer. I am so glad you made it out alive. Well, & me too.

  • Sorry to hear that you related to the pain, but glad that you're out there listening. "Ugly spirals"--that's a good way to put it.

  • Well, you have some nice turns of phrase yourself. Thanks again for turning your lens towards such a sensitive and intimate topic.

  • hip glasses are my choice (but you can't look bad)

i am engrossed by your story. i could have sat through another 10 minutes. you didn't have to stop.

thank you so much for sharing. very bold and brave.

  • Thank you, Dale! I mentioned your name in my column in the newspaper today. It's at PhiladelphiaWeekly.com.

  • Even if my name - or my "persona's" name, in the sripit of the article - wasn't in it, it's a great article all 'round Liz! Thanks for the mention out in the real world. ;) It feels much safer in here in this deli-meat, though. ;)

  • Damnit don't stop...I could listen to you for a really long time...I have a bi-polor brother who is now, thankfully medicated. When my mom died, He had to go across the country listening to god or somebody and ending up in jail before he realized he really needed to take them...I just glad he's still alive. So glad to have found you Liz...Can you tell use what has finally worked for you? Or would that spoil it....anyway, you are awesome (even though that is a stupid word)

  • Thanks. What finally worked for me was a combination of medications. At the moment I'm taking Seroquel (so I don't get psychotic), Lamictal (mood stabilizing), Ativan (anxiety/OCD control) and Effexor (which I started taking in response to breakthrough depression.

  • That seems like alot. But as long as it makes you feel better. I think all Terry, brother...er, brutha Terry takes is Lithium...SO as long as he takes it I thik he's ok. He now lives with younger brother, Tom in Mississippi. Oh, I'm in Ohio...my family left me here when they all moved to warmer climates. lol. btw. I think your glasses both look good...in fact, they are hard, for me, to tell apart. take care, tim

  • It is a lot, but it's an ongoing process. As the illness evolves, as I age, as life events effect me, the treatment has to shift. My mother just takes lithium too. Some people respond to that alone, and that's lucky.
