I was at a hotel party in Toronto with Stu and Doug in 1997. Tons of beer, great stories, learned a lot, and Stu even said he was impressed with one of MY songs I showed him!
Stu, and Doug was never anything without John. That was proven. The sound got better after the breakup, They were to greety and look what greed does, makes you a has been.
john guitar playing is phenemonal-as he takes a break from singing--was it this --that he didnt want anyone else to sing on ccr records-that caused all the troubles--because stu does a great job--even ringo and george sang occasionaly---
Acttuly Stu is palying Lead giutar on this song. John Fogerty only played lead giutar on his songs on Mardi Gras he play Rhytheme on Stu and Doug's songs. Stu played lead guitar, piano, and peadal steel giutar on his and Doug's songs.
thats amazing how you know that--this is a great song--perfect drums and guitar work--doug is one of the best drummers--i thought he got on well with john--you know he ought to get over it--i am seeing him in a diff. light(JOHN)
thanks for this one--always wondered-who sang this song--its agood one--how could you have a feud --thats still streching 35 years + i mean the beatles are gone elvis is gone-tom's gone-and yet these guys will not come together-or be seen in the same room--no-body is worth the effort of not talking to each other--lets complete the -circle ,because there is still a arc missing-simon--ego is not a dirty word
Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, (And Tom Fogerty) were important contributors to CCR, and I'm sure that John Fogerty was very difficult to work with, but let's face it, JC Fogerty is a genius, and Cook and Co. simply rode his coattails to fame and fortune.....in fact, they still are riding the coattails, with Creedence Clearwater Revisited.
John would argue that he is not being an asshole, he was the one trying to protect the CCR legacy by not allowing the use of their songs in commercials. I don't think the issue will ever be resolved...and I'm sad about that.
yeah, I guess you're right. but these 3 (or 4) guys are the only ones that can produce that legendary CCR sound. on their own, they simply can't play those songs like in the 60's and 70's.
I agree Tom is a genius, But with Tom,Doug and Stew that made the perfect combination that was CCR. No matter how you dice them up, they may come close, but they will never reproduce that sound that was unique to them alone(Tom Fogerty included). I wish they could get things straightened out between themselves. life is to short to hold grudges.
Saw John fogerty this year...he was so good i don't care about a ccr reunion...at one stage there were three other guitarists on stage doing his complicated overdubs...it was awesome..
i tnink john can sing their songs i mean like this one or the songs written by doug , but i don't know one thing, stu and doug wanted to sing a few songs but when they could sang theme the band separated and they said that it was because john pushed theme to sing (sorry for my english)
It´s a pity that Stu didn´t have more songs in CCR era. He was (like other members of the group) in shade of John´s songs. I don´t think Mardi Gras is bad album...maybe more various and not every song is "top ten".
I have to agree with your comment. For example "Sail Away", "Tearin' Up The Country" always came to mind as not bad songs from that album. People were pissed because John wasn't singing them.
Thanks for posting this Stu tribute, he's one of my favorite 4 stringers of all time
And what a great bass player he is...

If you are referring to the song then no, it's not Stu Cook. I had to change it due to copyrights.
