I can do nearly everything you can do on the eeepc with compiz, but I can't figure out how you got those invisible buttons on the top of the screen. Could you please send me a message explaining how?
I think I'm using XFCE actually. I tried messing with the panels two weeks ago and ended up removing the main panel bar at the bottom of the screen. I had no idea how to get it back since there was no "default" and ended up having to reinstall Xubuntu and configure compiz again. Do you know how to do this in XFCE?

You can't make xfce panels transparent. Try kiba-dock or AWN. They are a bit harder to configure but look a lot better.
