  • Excellent Performance !!!

  • So smooth, beautiful miss Simone

  • Great version.

  • She must be duplicated...it would be a crying shame to deny her classical sound to others so inspired by her works..they fall short...true but they owe it it her to try...

  • te quiero negra!

  • el unico defecto de sus canciones, es que son muy cortas :(

  • @allan2666 Check out "Sinnerman". It's around 10 minutes :)

  • This is music!.

    This is art!.

  • Nina is the definition of COOL!

  • случайные зашедшие сюда УРОДЫ!!!Не нажимайте палец вниз!!!!!!

  • I LOVE NINA MORE!

  • This is such a good performance. It is too bad that the IDIOT had to put his youtube/halaouine on the entire film! What an idiot.

  • Thumbs up if Pretty Lights brought you here

  • listen to the gary moore version if you want to see some contrast

  • Wikipedia said that she did this song before the animals did... but she said here that the animals had a hit with it so she says that the animals were before her???

  • @JJvGBeats Isn't it possible that: She released the song, The Animals did their version of it, and then she did this performance, in that sequence.

  • @JJvGBeats

It means that The Animals covered this song (like many other songs, such as "House of the Rising Sun, "Boom Boom", etc). It was a "hit" for The Animals instead of Nina Simone for "obvious" reasons that I will not discuss. That sort of thing was typical back then...

  • @villavillacola1111 The "obvious" reason is the Animals were more commerical & radio friendly. Nina's musical style was uncommerical & didn't fit mainstream pop music radio. That's all there was to it.

  • @ebailey140

Well yeah, that's what I meant by "obvious". Sorry if it came off as "skin color". The Animals knew how to target the "mass" people a lot better, that's all. Nina actually use to fit into the mainstream scene, until rock-n-roll came along. I think that if she would have had more "upbeat" tunes, things would had been different for her. It's definitely vital for musicians to change when times change, or else they'll be "old news". So yeah, peace.

  • @villavillacola1111 I'm glad the Jazz performers stuck to their style. Music needs variety, and if Nina had changed to fit pop radio, we'd never have had this song. Jazz, Rock, Soul, AND Country produced so many classics, that decade.

  • @ebailey140

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I guess if they all had changed, then we wouldn't have had the pleasure of hearing this song. You're absolutely right! However, it hurt Nina and other jazz musicians financially because of that :(. Which sucked for them. This sort of thing reminds me of a guy name Sonny Moore. He started out in a hardcore "screamo" band. Then when that sort of died out, he switched to electro dubstep, haha. Music is one of the hardest business to be in.

  • any business that is subject to trends and critical tastes is extremly difficult period. If you have a formal traning in different music genres you can be versatile. Those people who are dedicated to a very specific genre ( circumstances) have a much harder time. You will notice this in the artworld also, the old cater to a niche vs cater to the industry vs produce safe work will never die down.It aggravates me to end but what can we do.We need to survive don't we.

  • @ebailey140

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is; change is sometimes a good thing and could help musicians in the long run. Shit, it definitely helped people like Thom Yorke.

  • she is soul

  • i love this version

  • @delicious0430 this version? this is the original version

  • 32 people are misunderstandig eva simone

  • So much warmth and depth. What a gorgeous woman in every way.

  • much, much love!!!

  • I am an American. I love this song. I love Nina. Why is everybody so mean these days?

  • @itsdandamage

Because people are extremely sad and desperate. They need some compassion and can't find it.

  • True music class, You cannot buy it............beat it.......... or better it! Thanks for posting xxx

  • Makes me shiver............................

  • You never think about how awesome people were back then,,,

  • @TheDrunkenHer0

There are plenty of awesome people in our times as well. They're all over the place. We're just too blinded to notice them.

  • what voice....a musician, what an increadible interpretation.

  • great human, great women, great artist

But the rulers of this world and their media and religion and other brainwashing want to hunt us against each other, educate us as racists, convincing us to war and sending us to their wars.

  • Nina Simone... She is a Queen!!!!!

  • can't believe I'd never heard (about) this extraordinarily poignant version - she does what so few artists fail to understand: that songs should be interpreted not simply copied

  • Lol hes right refresh!!!!

  • If we were to refresh this page instead of raping he replay button,She'd get more views than Bieber. #Lazy

  • Loveeeee NINA. One one else her her style.

  • Brilliant performance by Nina! Totally connected with the music and the sentiment it conveys. Her genius is evident in the emotional range of her work.

  • "The man who started jazz was Papa Jack Laine..." I don't care about race, but let's stop this historical revisionism and lie. The band led by CHARLES 'BUDDY' BOLDEN was the first band to play what later came to be acknowledged as Jazz music. Many of the earliest Jazz musicians in the first era of Jazz bands (Dixieland) acknowledeged Bolden as the originator of Jazz music. His band preceeded the earliest recordings of 'The Original Dixieland Jass Band'.

  • Lauryn Hill would make a great actress for her bi-opic film...

  • @calvin60616 Totally agreed !!!

  • this is my theme song.....

  • when i go to my mountain in colorado, that final time, this song goes with me

i am grateful to have heard this and thank the person who posted this

  • @muffinmare This sounds like a final goodbye. If this is the case, there is someone out there that understands!

  • wuao!!!

  • Type "Ranj Catch 22" if you wanna hear a cool song!

  • utterly beautiful. I was listening to the same song performed by Santa Esmeralda and it is indeed a sign that a song is a classic when it travels from performer to performer and they make it their own. I love Nina.

  • They see her rollin, they hatin

  • This a bluesy rendition of the rock song done by The Animals. I take it that

Nina was the original? A remake most likely became the more popular as it turned out. History has already told you if you remember well or if you're still in your early

20's or teens please read or listen more of the 60's gfeneration music. My personal comment: this is a real classic song and I love it.

  • what a great voice

  • she looks like the morris twins from KU

    Rock Chalk

  • Amazing song on her voice

  • I LOVE YOU NINA.

  • @thisisviolent THIS IS NOT VIOLENT!

  • Nina Simone was the embodiment of love, faith, friendship, peace and positive energy...and all that made her music magical...so magical that it can touch the toughest soul n make it melt...only my opinion...and a request..let good music touch n alter ure souls..that way we might all become better ppl n create a more beautiful world..

  • @ObsureDarkness fully agreed on that

  • fantastic

  • wow. its crazy how artist of today uses phrases from legends like her in their music. cough cough lil wayne

  • Just great! A beautiful voice and way of bringing it.

  • comme elle me manque...une vraie douleur;sans doute pas aussi grande que la sienne, elle m'accompagne toujours, pour toujours.

  • As an artist I am so inspired by her voice, energy and voice.

  • @kbsatlive stfu

  • love this ,many thanks

  • Simple wonderful. Give me the words to say...........

  • i wished i had a black woman's voice.. this is giving me goosebumps

  • Thanks for sharing, awesome!

  • amazing to hear the song from the original singer. lets give it up to nina simone!

  • wonderful

  • no doubt white folks stole black people's music hahaha, let all BS aside try to enjoy the music and not argue about who is got the music and soul in their blood it is obvious no discussion about it, someday all races will get along!!!

  • @ajr0988 You do know your comment conflicts with itself?

  • One of my all time favorite songs!!! I still remember the first time i hear it as a young kid. Amazing!!!!

  • Nina le canta al pedazo de cielo q esta aquí en la tierra

  • amy winehouse i died a thousand times

  • When my family put me in the ground I play this song. For sure.

  • Increible voz e increíble versión

  • Her voice is a little bit strange, like a boys voice, but I love the song!!! =D

  • I almost crying.Great.

  • I'm glad you posted this video, many believe the Animals was the originator of the song. Nina was.

  • Main reason y glee wont get overwhelming appeal outside of the 25 under set. how can a Glee tv show not do great covers... we get mostly, rock & easy listening and pop & some r&b & country/metal. See the strict song selection and weakness. Kids dont know better but we do. Boring! u have artist like this to bring to life again. Showcase your vocals

  • MONEY BOY :DDDDDDDD

  • You are all a bunch of sad human beings. It makes me sick that I share the same number of chromosomes as you guys.. ITS 2011! Get over yourselves. Lets not be a bunch of racist idiots. I thought we were over that hump in society.

  • Please can we all get along? all this bounces off me, my dad is black and my mom is white, what are you gonna do about it. get along and enjoy the song.

  • and i am so fucking sick of hearing you racist americans yeah a lot of americans are stupid but fuck you you fucking ero trash piece of shit you think you know everything well not all of us are that fucking stupid or so fucking stupid as to say most this racist bull shit

  • the only people who can hate on her are trolls who come on here to talk shit for attention

  • A great voice and musical talent dies with Nina!

  • What a gorgeous, graceful, talented, and strong woman!

  • Nina Simone is beautiful! I love her very mach!

  • Been listening to her story via BBC radio totally amazing woman

  • @TheDarkRedWyvern and all the things she did as a black woman with mental issues as well in the 60 70s are awesome

  • great song....deep and soulful.

im sorry it is about race....we can pretend all we want but it is. things just dont disappear without being addressed fully.

  • @SuperMrSky it can also betaken as a letter to a lover she has lost due to her actions or inactions and why she would be up set a lot of the time.

  • Excellent performance !!!

    I'm impressed that music

from the 60's is being watched

in 2010. This video is almost 50 years old.

    Nina Simone recorded it 1964

The Animals recorded it in 1965

  • I couldn't agree more... it's all fluid and those that get that understand the song, and life... the rest miss the loving energy. It doesn't have to be a struggle, look to those ahead. Lessons to learn.

  • well that sucked. to put it mildly :))

  • Shit, Nina, you are holy.

  • What year is this son?

  • this song is making me cry

  • Some people like to complicate their life.

If you don't like this version, there is a version exactly for people like you, here in youtube by Santa Esmeralda.

  • Don't you stupid idiots (I really mean F#*king Idiots) know the meaning of the word Chanteuse!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @muzsickman your mouth is full of shit,,,,watch your words. It seems that you are so bitter in life,,,,,

  • the best interpretation of this song she turned it into a prayer!!! cool! love this woman!!!

  • She was such a beautiful woman.

  • unbeschreiblich!

  • Wow, I really like Nina Simone, but you can see that the Animals really put the soul into it!

  • @dfarmbrough

It's obvious that you don't know what soul is...

  • @misterzigg We can agree to differ!

  • WORDS OF WISDOM....

  • english is not my first language (not even my second language)so please ..."Don't let me be misunderstood";)

  • I'm sure there are forums to " discuss" race, music shouldn't be one of them. I will say, the ignorance and hate in some of these posts makes me ashamed to be human .

everyone no matter what culture or color has experienced some kind of pain and suffering, this music is therefore for whoever needs to hear it at the time, now lets be nice! ,<3

  • @squillysk8 Why not? Music is an art form and art forms are meant for expression. But you are right. People have different experiences which are expressed in their culture that includes music. "Humans need to appeciate other peoples cooking too and not just their moma's." An old Congolese saying. People should respect, learn, and appreciate other cultures.

  • BORIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGG......

  • @buddyeagle they why post if this is boring.

  • @buddyeagle lol yeah fucking boring

  • @elektra1984 why listen to it if it bores you?find another version.as simple as that.

  • Really?..yall are making this too much of a big deal...if you clicked it you wanna listen to it if not WTF you doin here?..please RESPECT her..!!!!

  • I think Nina would be mighty disappointed in the foolish dialogue going on in this comments section.

  • i'm too inches below the ...

  • Fantástico! Nina é simplesmente demais. Esta versão ficou muito boa.

    She is wonderfull.

  • Once an artist or songwriter puts their work into the public domain it is available to everyone worldwide whether carried on the net or just carried on the wind.

Music is universal, folk songs were carried down the generations through the oral tradition long before any recording equipment was invented. It is the listener who discriminates - ' I lke / I don't like this; I'll remember / forget this '.

Music is for sharing, not for segregating. I love music.

  • music is not for everyone??? That is like saying a certain race cannot listen to certain music unless they are of that race. I'm sure Nina would want EVERYONE of EVERY color to enjoy her music not just one race.

  • Super!!!...

Did you see and heard: Ivory Fantasy Nina Martinez, she is GREAT!!!!...

    ww w.youtube.com/watch?v=w1xnxGVKsNQ

  • this is one of the best songs ive ever herd

  • this is so amazing this woman rocks my socks

  • Music is drama, drama is Nina Simone mixed with music.

  • A great singer, a great song. The Original performed by Nina Simone is great, the ANIMALS' version is great. And if you want to dance: take Santa Esmeralda's disco version: dance but don't compare the singers.........

  • @kinkybeatle

yusuf islams version is nice as well

  • this can only be a vote up.

  • if u fucking knew about what ur talkin g about u would know that the person who originally made the song made for her fucking racist cracka

  • love this black woman.. ooops.. i'm white.. fuck you motherfuckin' racist..

  • @Be4TinGyoU are you kidding me?!?!

  • wow wow wow

  • Comment removed

  • what the fuck i tought it was a song by the animals. white people always steal the song from other people. shame on you whites.

  • @untersuchung it is dumbass this is a cover... not a bad one either at least on the vocals, instrumentals are shit

  • @elspiclatino Wrong. Nina Simone recorded this song before the Animals. The Animals version is a cover, she was just pointing out that it was a hit for them.

  • @conard04 she said the animals HAD a hit with this one...either way her singing is awsome but the animals did a much better job with the song
