  • Susan, you're absolutely Ahh-MAZING!!! I love your charisma (always have~since the late 80's,early90's) and wished that my best friend, who is 230+ lbs and climbing, had it, as well, and DIDN'T spew out as many excuses as she changes her underwear!!!!

  • Hi Susan. Where did you get the information that you can only metabolise 2 pounds of fat a week. John Mcdougall says can can lose up to 4 pounds a week. Thanks for all the information.

  • she is talkin about her snatch

  • Comment removed

  • Susan!!! I remember you . I just stumbled upon your videos. I love the way you speak!

  • I have been worried about this - I have to loose 80-90 pounds. My nemesis from high school lost this amount - I suspect she had the surgery, mommy and daddy paid for her.

    You look great! BTW

  • Thank you...I have been worried about this.

  • hey susan long time fan here just curious what u think about the biggest loser tv show???

  • Very good,just what i wanna hear !

  • hi susan what exercises do you recommend to help build lean muscle mass?

  • how did you get arms like that please tell me your exercise routine, i'm a overweight 19 year old and i hate my arms!!!!

  • You make me wanna go out and take a 4 mile walk. And it's only 5:45 in the morning.

  • I absolutely adore you!

  • Is that why people (mostly doctors) say that it isn't safe to lose more than 2 pounds per week? Is it bad to?

  • So what should people do with lose skin, gain back the weight and start over , doing it her way. Yes, why not. No one likes to have terrible skin waving in the wind sort of speak..

  • u r awesome.

  • great vid. love it.

  • Thanks for telling the truth, Susan. People have been brainwashed by before and after television shows.

If you really have "loose skin", then your skin should be in very thin folds. Pinch it and if you pinch an inch then that's not skin - that's fat.

I want to see a woman with 10% body fat and "loose skin".

  • was reading, If you try to starve yourself by eating 1,000 calories per day thn ur metabolism will ADJUST ITSELF so that your body begins to burn only 1,000 calories per day, that's why you always seem to fail when you try and starve.

the reason you can eat 1,000 calories per day and not lose any weight while your friends can eat 2,500 calories per day and not gain any weight. metabolism adjusts itself to burn fewer cal.Your body attempts to burn the exact number of calories that you eat?

  • ahh I feel so MOTIVATED right now.... TELL IT TO ME TELL IT TO ME TELL IT TO ME Susan !!!!

  • She's right. The whole muscle weighs more than fat thing is stupid. A pound of feathers equals a pound of rocks. A pound is a pound. BUT...what takes up more space? Therein lies the rub (probably between my thighs).

  • Yeah but the feathers would need a much bigger box.

The pound of fat will take up 2/3 more space than the pound of muscle. Its hard to tell by stepping on the scale whether your weight loss is truly successful. Which is why many say that you shouldn't worry so much about what you weigh, as you do the way you look and feel.

  • This is why these crazy crash diets, fad diets (loose 40 pounds fast), starvation, surgery, blah, blah, blah, don't work. HELLLLO! She is so on. I love this video.

  • susan you are the BOMB MS THANG!!!!! go girl, this is why I excercise!!

  • Susan you are awesome. I have a question though, you said that the body can only metabolize 2 pounds a week, how about the people in biggest loser, who were losing up to 5 pounds a week, with 4 hours of exercise a day? What is your thought on that?

  • what way then? i totally feel the same way, but i am struggling with what to actually DO to loose weight

  • Love you!

  • i like this, great thinking :P

  • What about if you have had the extra weight on you already for a longer time and you already have some loose skin - (without having had the surgery) what then?

  • Question Susan, I seen your anorexic video and was wondering how you feel about all these average weight girls with anorexic intentions. Like the ones that are 122 lbs and say they are too fat, that really makes someone like me feel very bad about myself when my friends do that and I am much larger than them.

  • I look thru the fat to fit videos for inspiration - not too long ago I started reading some of the books you put out years ago - I have found that what you have to say and teach is superior to any other fitness gurus - am really pleased to have found you in youtube. Also you look as great now as you did 15 yrs ago -actually on second thought your one of those women that just get better with time!

  • oso fucking true, i love you

  • Hi susan! Can you please tell me how if you do exercise 5-6 times a week you burn three times the fat, when the body can only burn 2lb a week? i'm confused. couldn' i just exercise 2wice a week and still lose 2lb of fat in that week? Thanks.X

  • 50% of people who have Gastric By-Pass Surgery gain all the weight back again after two years. It isn't a cure all even at $30,000.

  • wow, that was interesting i didnt know that.

And ur fit u look great.

  • let me tell you, i have 100 pounds to lose on my five foot frame and i'm young. it's a sad situation and my biggest worry was about the sagging skin. you really gave me hope. i am willing to do the work and do it right...thanks so much

  • First of all you look AMAZING!!! Second how can you ensure that you only lose 2 pounds a week? I was in the process of getting the lap band until I started watching your videos. Now I want to do it right!

  • my stomach just growled lol

just thought you'd might wanna hear something random

  • Wow, didn't know that the body could only metabolize actual FAT by 2 lbs per week. That's interesting. I've always figured that when people drop more that 2 lbs per week when they first start a weight loss plan, its mostly water weight. But this is good to know.

  • Hi Susan,

I am a 57 year old male, top weight 337. I am now 272 and hope to get down to 175 to 235 at 15 to 20% fat. Everyone says I will have to do surgery. I am eating vegan, mainly raw, doing yoga, pilates, weights and cardio. Do you really think I can look normal without surgery? That would be the greatest news. I don't want to do a body conture unless I have to. I am doing everything I can to do it healthy and on the natch'. Saw you on VegSource DVD. Best wishes.

  • strong biceps!!!!

  • SUSAN, THANK GOD YOU ANSWERED THIS QUESTION :)

SUCH RELIEF. TV Docs have not answered that question of "why" the loose skin happins or how to prevent it! Honesty the truth of how to healthily lose weight is what I needed!

    Thanks so much!

    Peace~Shannah (Freebyrd)

  • you are amazing! I am currently 274lbs and I had that fear of saggig skin and now I feel more confident that I can still look great if I lose the weight! Thank you!!!!!

  • "A diet that includes foods that enhance thyroid function, such as whole grains, raw seeds, prunes, apricots, potatoes, dates, apricots, egg yolks, molasses and parsley. Limit consumption of alcohol, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, mustard greens, peaches, pears, radishes, spinach and turnips because these foods suppress thyroid function. Avoid processed and refined foods, like white flour and sugar."

  • Susan, I would love to hear you address thyroid issues. I know people with hypothyroid issues...they have dieted for years and run marathons, are involved in roller derby, are super active people. I know there are thryoid medications, but there's also lots of natural TCM herbs/food info for managing thyroid. I think this is critical information to address for many frustrated women.

  • People dieting/running-marathons, etc. and they still have large hips/thighs, etc. I know soy is terrible for people with thyroid problems. So are potatoes and corn, b/c they are goitrogenic.

  • You seem to be addressing it...

  • I'm losing weight the right way (eat less, exercise more, do it slow) so I know most of my skin will shrink back over time, HOWEVER.. the skin above my pubic bone has been destroyed by having a hanging belly for so long. The "stretch marks" will never shrink back up. So, yeah, I will never have a flat belly unless I get part cut off. I don't think I will, though.. this is about being healthy, not wearing a bikini. Aloha!

  • Lose weight the right way, it's the only way...if losing it and never finding it again is the goal...and,

Yes, it's about healthy -- do it first, then see the condition of your skin...

  • Susan, How often is necessary for lifting weight to build muscle and how much cardio per week for woman over 40?

  • Thank. God. For. You. I'm sorry about spamming the comments. Just stoked you're back in view. I hate that aggressive, man-hating, 80s wot and blah characterization that you get. People that look instead of see - mm. Like fresh air. I swear to god.

  • Thank you, it's lovely to see and hear the comments of people interested in discussion, movement forward and the truth...the others well, that's what remove is all about...and I will....how lovely your energy is...

    Susan Powter

  • Keep doing what your doing! Your not mean, your not crazy, your a woman over 40 who doesnt give a damn what people think - they can take it or leave it. Your direct and that is how is should be!

  • Way over 40 and, thank you...I think I will...

    Susan Powter

  • Way over 40 -- 50 within months and thrilled to be..

    Susan Powter

  • you're not your (stop it)

  • Thanks for the information! I had my doubts about the surgery. Perhaps some exercise (examples) for losing FAT on your channel??? :)

  • Us gastric bypass people ARE so screwed. My body is a disaster post-surgery. DISASTROUS! meltingmama dot typepad dot com

  • But, there is something you can do....the small amount of food you can take in needs to be perrrrrrfect and frequent....

Then you must build lean muscle mass...

You can regain strength, energy and health...

    Susan Powter

  • Thank you. I agree. I need to eat much, much, better.

  • I feel there is a lot of truth in this, but I have been losing my weight slowly and I'm still living with loose gross skin. I keep pushing on though because I know it -has- been catching up.. otherwise my arm flab would be down to my waist (and its not ;) )

  • Build lean muscle mass....build lean muscle mass...

    Susan Powter

  • Try some skin treatments along the way too which will improve the skin further...I'm not saying it will get rig of loose skin totally but whats the harm in contributing.

  • LOVE your vidoes!!!

  • Thank you, there are a whole lot more coming....

    Susan Powter

  • OMG ! I'm so glad to see you again !!! I haven't seen you in years. I'm so glad you're still around and helping others. You look GREAT !

  • I feel better than I have in my life as should you because you can....

    Susan Powter

  • Well said! But there are so many out there who feel like a failure if they don't get the results quickly. I've been there, but know it's not for me anymore. I get inspired reading other people's blogs where weight loss journey's stretch over a year or two.. bit by bit. Eventually.. getting there. Success.

  • I agree withe everything, also people dont realize how important water is to help with the elasticity part.

  • Yes, moist stretches better than brittle....

    Susan Powter

  • There's other ways to moisturise the skin....water hydrates, oil moisturises...if forcing youself to drink gallons of water, which actually makes me rench, skin treatments are the next best thing in the weight loss process.....drink when your thirsty....I know many people who can't force themselves to drink water like that...drinking when your thirsty is doing what your body is telling you to do.

  • You admit that you are not a doctor, or a dietitian and say that you are all about honesty and truth, yet you won't allow others to be heard.

  • Probably because she's heard it all before....and as Susan say's THEY DONT WORK!...she believes in herself.....the proof is in the pudding......Just look at her!

  • When losing a significant amount of weight, you cannot replace ALL of the lost fat with lean muscle mass or you would weigh the same.

  • While I agree some people can have great results like you have shown.. I think each and every person is just different. Perhaps as well the yo yo diets do not help with the elasticity in the skin. Just my 2 cents.

  • Bingo...dieting absolutely affects internal and external organs in a big way...

    And, yes damage is individual....

    Susan Powter

  • do you recommend weight training for burning the most fat? or is any exercise of any kind good?

You are an insipration!!! thank you!

  • All movement is good....lean muscle mass, metabolically the most active tissue in the human body is vitally important for far more than burning fat but it does...lean muscle mass burns the hell out of fat....

    To be cont....

  • thank you so much!!

  • You are very welcome...

    Susan Powter

  • Every doctor and personal trainer I have ever had has backed up the fact that if you have stretched your skins limit you can not recover from that. Your skin only has so much elasticity in it.

  • Dr's? No, no..... Women who've housed life, especially those of Us who've been pregnant with two l0 pound babies and....dr's?

Your beautiful skin, the largest organ on/in the human body can do more than you could imagine possible if you give it an ounce of what it, and every other internal/external organ needs...dr's, aren't even in my thinking....

    To be cont...

  • Most Dr's can be very negative which inturn has a very negative affect on people which I found out to my cost. Dr's are not Gods, they dont know everything and most people prove them wrong if you keep positive. As far as personal trainers go...99.9% of them have never been major overweight themselves so what do they know? Good Dr's and trainers who really care and understand and take an holistic approach are hard to come by.

  • However.. it is NOT possible for a person who is 200+ lbs over weight to loose weight the "right away", as you put it, and have ZERO loose skin. That is a figment of your imagination and wishful thinking. I had lost 120 lbs on my own before gastric bypass through 2 years in the gym with a personal trainer and I had major loose skin.....

  • A small % of people just dont have the type of skin that will go back, but keeping your skin well lubricated, moisturised and pliable has a large factor too.

  • I am sorry I have to disagree with what you are saying. If you are talking about a weight loss of 50 lbs or so then it is very possible to loose it slowly and not have extra skin. Much like that of a pregnant woman who gains weight has an extended stomach and is able to go back to pre baby weight.

  • Exactly what I'm saying, it is more than possible done correctly, much like pregnant Women....

    Susan Powter

  • It's not possible and that's why on page 276 of "Stop the Insanity" you admit to having a tummy tuck for "loose, sagging skin"

  • muted51......its actually on page 267. But if you read on page 266 She actually states that she had loose sagging skin "NOT" because of weight loss, but because of BACK TO BACK BIRTHS! BIG difference!

  • right on!

  • wow.. you really give me a different outlook on my weight loss, my whole channel is about weight loss if you want to check it out, this is a great video and i love the video where your talking about the size of a "king size" candy bar...it really is the size of a head, keep the videos comming thanks so much

  • YES!! Thank you for this reply!!

Sounds like a plan and I'm all about it!

So often we think the quick fixes are the best thing, but no no no when it comes to this, who wants a million lbs of saggy skin on a new you, NOT ME I DON'T THINK SO! Thankx Lady you R the BEST!

    Luv Ya!

  • You are, more than, welcome....

Burning body fat (2 lbs a week) and increasing strength is exactly what will get you leaner, stronger and healthier than you may ever have thought possible until now, of course....

    Tell the world...it's the Truth...

    Susan Powter

  • Brilliant.

  • Wellness is brilliant, you are absolutely correct....it's the best investment any-body can make, in you!

    Susan Powter

  • No one explains this stuff as clearly and logically as you, Susan, and you always have.

  • The simplicity of wellness makes my nuts in this world where it's all presented as such a complicated thing....life saving and simple, it always was and always will be...

Thank you...it's so nice to know it means something...

    Susan Powter

  • Awesome!

  • Thank you....there is nothing better than solving the problems of overfat and unfit and this is the way to do it...

    Susan Powter

  • @SusanPowter you R the best!!!!!
