Maybe because one block east of the downtown are the slums with way too much crime. Businesses have moved north to Belden Village and the Strip for shopping. I grew up close to a small city of 8000 out West. On Saturdays the streets are packed! Downtown is where their Brass Buckle, JCPenney, major shoe stores, dry cleaner, major dress, clothing, and men's shops are. I am not sure Canton has done ANYTHING to promote businesses like that to come back downtown. Very sad.
Nice vid, but for the love of god why were you waiting at those red lights? You are allowed to turn left on red when going from a one-way, onto another one-way.
Any way, again nice job, would have liked to have seen Market a little more.
Very nice. But so depressing to see all those deserted blocks where (I'd bet) it once had a lively downtown decades ago, before jobs moved away! Sad to see a downtown that makes the current condition of the one(Springfield, OH) where my maternal grandfather grew up look lively, vs Canton. And I thought Springfield's downtown was struggling enough!
Did enjoy seeing the older architecture in Canton's downtown. Hope cities like this, Muncie, Canton, Youngstown, etc. can one day make a comeback!
wow that place feels deserted. But then again, Canton isn't that big. There's a lot waiting-for-nothing with those traffic lights, although your route wasn't very logical, thus you end up waiting for traffic lights more than average.
@aswchris Those traffic lights are set to "flash" on weekends and after hours. That way they become a "Flashing Red Stop Light" and once you stop and look you are allowed to go through the intersection. Not wait for them to change. LOL How much time people waste. LOL
I feel so bad for these cities like Canton, Youngstown, or Wheeling, WV. A dead downtown, and many people have left because the industry left. Nice video.
@bigM10231 It depends on what day of the week. Keep in mind that this was filmed on a Saturday afternoon, so traffic is very low. Now, if this was filmed sometime during the week, then it would make more sense.
@bigM10231 is it the adjacent environment surrounding your city? If it's in the middle of nowhere(e.x. Lima, OH), then it must be a busy place for people to go to.
Nice video.

@FreewayAndrew the closest mountains are 30 miles away and theres many cities around
bigM10231 1 year ago
@bigM10231 Canton has only 79,000 people, so your city's traffic will probably be a little bigger.
