  • I used to think Mulroney was the worst thing to happen to this country... but now, after the rise of the extreme right-wing "Reform" like Preston Manning and, of course, Harper, they actually make Mulroney look like a left-wing extremist (well, not really, but you get my point... Mulroney was horrible enough,,, I never imagined that I'd actually be saying smthg good abt Mulroney..)

  • @ammarios And on that note, MAN do I miss Chretien ... I'm not a Liberal voter (I'm a staunch NDP supporter), but even I can admit that Trudeau and Chretien were, so far, the last of the greatest PM's this country has seen) ... My heroes of Canada are: Pierre Trudeau, Jean Chretien, Tommy Douglas, and now, Jack Layton .. let's hope this list will grow in the near future...

  • FREE JAGGI SINGH!

  • Is that John Tory at 2:28?

  • @300072485 That is John Tory.

  • The reofrm party never should have merged with the PC party.

They should have thought about the distant future, rather than the immidiate future.

Eventually, the PC party would have died and the Reform party would have taken over the right wing completely.

Instead, we have a watered down Conservative party now (which I support because they are better than the alternatives).

Preston Manning is the greatest Prime Minister that we never had.

  • So is that where the current advertising style began? Attack ads seem to be all we see nowadays. They make me like the party that puts out the ads less!

  • Why can't get back to this kind of politics? I'm sick of attack ads.

  • PC LOW BLOW.

  • I can't wait till 2014, when the federal attack ads will be back.

  • @yomamasapeach yup.

  • PC FUCKED THEM SELFS UP

  • Chrétien's reply was the best.

  • phew conservatives still practice such dirty personal attack campaigns against liberals

  • *John Tory

  • Brian Mulroney did not even like Canada and kept stealing money and shiuld have gone to jail for it. He liked the US way more and tried to make Canada more like the US.

  • Brian Mulroney is such an asshole..... No wonder he the Consertatives only won two seats that election.

  • Where can you find a full copy of the ad?

  • @recklesscoalition Wish I knew, I've been looking for over 3 years.

  • I wanted to be PM but they wouldn't let me.

  • Hey, look; it's Kim Campbell! The one the Tories lashed to the wheel of a sinking ship while they bailed for either the Bloc or the Reform party.

  • canadians are funny. from your southern neighbor

  • A couple of things come to mind: one that this election killed the PCs and the true "Tory" party, leading to redneck Reformes like Harper. That is sad. Secondly, wow have things changed since 1993! Like the computer being used by the political analyst. And Barometer on Q107 was an excellent show. Too bad they got rid of it. The Mighty Q hasn't been the same since.

  • Character assassination is a right-wing policy.

  • @Conchobhar Fathered by the left wing

  • @2:05 "Riddel says the ads are unlike anything he's ever seen in Canadian politics"

Welcome to the future, Mr. Riddel

  • This is why I love Canada, Canadians saw this and didn't let the Tory's get away with it..I think they won something like 2 seats that election. If this were another country (hint hint) these attack ads would have worked.

  • I used to always get laughs in grade school for pretending to be jean chretien and saying with a french canadian accent

"you know my brodder(brother) (h)e really (h)it me (h)ard in te face when hI was a kid"

  • a true national embarassment

  • This is nothing compared to today.

  • Chetien: best friend of that lowlife Suharto

  • I remember this country being so much better when Chretien was in charge.

  • Old ass computer

  • john tory is an ass

  • conservatives still do this

  • @officetrax

    So do the lliberals

  • LOL, Chretien is almost making fun of himself! :D

  • History always repeats itself. The PCs attacked Chretien's face, the Liberals attacked the faith of Manning, Day and Harper. They're all equal as far as I'm concerned. Nobody's dealing with the issues. People need to be engaged emotionally. Appealing to their intellect gets you a minority movement voting libertarian. People want to be inspired. Chretien for a little while did that. And he had our sympathy. The policies never really matter. The country is run by special interests anyway.

  • What a different time. You'd never see a Conservative MP today come out and criticize the attacks ads of their own party. They are too scared. Even if those ads include a bird crapping on the Leader of the Opposition or question another leader's patriotism and commitment to Canada.

  • It really was awfully low.

  • Good job Kim, good job.

  • lol look at that computer!

  • and Campbell was never to be seen again after the election

last I heard she was living in France

  • 2:08 what is this green device being used?

  • Yoda looked funny, and he was also very capable!

  • we are once again shown that women cannot lead

  • .....and who won one seat in Parliament? the PC party...

who was the best prime minister in my era. Jean CHRETIEN..

  • Such a disgusting ad.

  • I was never that in love with the liberals or all the ridiculous spending with zero efficiency but that one sentence really bought me over. The ads made me angry and he really delivered here:

"They tried to make fun of the way that I look.... GOD gave me a physical defect. and I've accepted that since I was a kid."

Brings goosebumps even 7 years later.

  • "I'm not a tory I don't speak on both sides of my mouth!" FUCK YES! lol typical liberal wit

  • love his comeback - go Jean!

  • You know the Conservatives are desperate when they have to use the physical appearance of their competitor in their fight...... blah blah blah, f*king politics!

  • @conrailgrille Ads like this happens in politics - I have seen worse. And if you actually watch the ad they were not "attacking his face" - but it was all a matter of interpretation

  • what baffles me is how/why the Conservatives still do this type of advertising.

  • Chretien can't fool me with his cornball outrage. You can tell by his response to the ad that he was just loving the attention - he had probably been practicing in front of the mirror for years for just that moment when someone made fun of his face

  • Jean Chretien was one of our best leaders! Seriously! Chretien is a very competent man, much better than the Harper gov't

  • I love John Tory's tie

  • Tasteless and deceitful campaigning, aggressive and jingoistic foreign policies, constant disregard for democratic conventions with underhanded measures like proroguing parliament......the Conservatives are the same now as they've ever been. Unfortunately the Liberals haven't had anything resembling effective leadership in years and I fear Michael Ignatieff doesn't have the backbone to stand firm against that thug Harper and his strong-arm tactics.

  • Can't we trade our Conservatives to the US for something useful?

  • I wanna start my own party just for fun.

  • 1:40 You won't see that under Harper. Individuals riding candidates going against the federal party.

    Harper will eat his candidates.

I agree with you, Ignatieff doesn;t have enough confidence in Canada. You can see his videos all over youtube where he criticizes Canada.

  • Everything is reperable long term lol maybe my use of word was too strong, but you get what I mean. It caused a lot of damage to their image by attacking someone based on physical defects. Not just as a politician but as a human, that's a real low level to stoop down to.

  • 2:04

HAHAHAHAHAHAH what a piece of shit computer!!

  • @LordAztahoth dude that ad is like 15-20 years old at least

  • No shit? Daaah, I know that dude, it's just funny to compare old computers performances to recent ones, their evolution is like exponential.

  • @savehost 17

  • Maybe they wouldn't be so desperate if a man were the prime minister at the time. HAH HAH I made a joke.

  • This ad was a HORRIBLE mistake, they withdrew the ad within a matter of days and it caused irreperable damage. The man's paralyzed... they must have taken a stupid pill to make this ad haha

  • John Tory at 2:18, defending using an ad making fun of Chrétien's face. I am so happy he couldn't get a seat in the Ontario Legislature. Every voting Torontonian should see this clip before they choose their next mayor.

  • these ads really are pretty low

  • Conservatives--- will and always screw up!

  • Yes, and the Liberals never do as evidenced by their much more recent "Soldiers with guns in the street" ad.....all sanctioned by current Liberal shadow cabinet members and the wonderful and talented Stephan Dion

  • @GoLeafsGoBaby I guess they "screwed up" in winning a great majority!!!

A little egg on your face?

  • John Tory... an idiot then... an idiot now.

AND he was head of Rogers cable... no wonder no one ever votes for the prick

  • I thought she did apologize. ?

  • too little, too late

  • Oh the good days - when people had decency and respect. Apologizing and what not. Compare that to today. Have we gotten worse?

  • John Tory: Woah I am surprised he was behind this. Maybe I shouldn't be...maybe I have to reconsider his integrity. Despite his stance on faith base funding for education...

  • how does john tory sleep at night?

    are his children ashamed?

  • the moment our Canadian election campaigns went American.

  • Does anyone have that full ad on video?

  • Oh, hi Kim. Bye, Kim.

  • Thanks, John Tory, for your continuing support of the Liberal Party!

  • The same people who ran the Kim Campbell campaign ran John Tory's campaign! I hope they do another one soon!

  • Harper's, maybe?

  • John Tory rocks!

    Making fun of Chretien!

    Faith Based schools!

Losing a By-election and throwing the PC's into Charos!

This guy ALWAYS manages to shoot himself in the foot and helps Liberals win...

(tearing up) God bless this man!

  • I remember this ad, go figure it was one of the biggest landslide victories in Canadian history. lol, great job on that campaign John Tory

  • Wow, quite the ads.... in America , we could never get away with something like this!

This only proves that Canada is the greatest, they aren't all hung up about these kinds of things like we are down here.

  • These were pulled in hours. We all thought they were really out of line.

  • okay thanks for the reply.

  • You guys have far, far worse ads in America. We get American tv in Canada, and your political ads are unreal. Almost every one of them is a personal attack.

  • We need the Liberals back

  • cant believe our country voted for Harper :(

  • Our country did not vote for Harper, only a MINORITY did, and that is a very important fact for anyone who thinks a coalition would be un-democratic. The fact that the majority of Canadian voters did NOT vote for Harper, and he is still the PM, now that is un-democratic.

When this subversive prorogue is finished, so will Harper be. This is not a conservative country, we just need to unite our 3 liberal parties(Lib, NDP, GRN) into one party, and then Canada will show it's true colors (cont.)

  • (cont.) as a place where people can have services to show for their taxes, a country with moral fiber, culture, and compassion.

  • the liberals ndp and green are 3 very diffrent parties. the liberals are centerists. where the ndp are to the centre left and greens are more like conservatives then anything else. to unite them would create political chaos they would all be out to implement there own political ideology wich would get us no where. and u cant really call it uniting the left because only 1 of theese parties the ndp is slightly on the left. to unite theese three parties would be a diasaster.

  • i think that Jean Chretien proved himself as a leader.

  • Well , actually Campbell didn't even see the ads before they aired . It was John Tory and Allan Gregg who made the decision to air the commercials . Just saying . I'm a conservative .

  • What do you think of Jean Chretien? Do you think he was a good PM?

  • Yep, those Conservatives are a real classy bunch.

  • I'm NDP but miss him so much.

  • Thanks for posting this, been looking for a while!

  • Thanks for the post!

  • Notice John Tory is there defending the ads.

  • What's fitting is that the PC only won 2 seats in that election. Kim Campbell, the unelected Prime minister makes Stephane Dion looks like a champion.
