Among other accomplishments, this movie takes the unapologetic, "can do" American spirit of the twentieth century and spins it into a campy, fun fantasy adventure. Kudos to Alex Ross for his insights. Listening to him is like having a food critic explain to me exactly why a favorite food tastes fantastic.
A year later, I do believe, Daft Punk heard you Mr. Ross when scoring Tron: Legacy. When Kevin Flynn saves Quorra and Sam from The End of Line Club and Daft Punk melts our faces. Yeah, I think that moment qualifies.
One of the best artist ever...Alex Ross has definilly changed and recharged the view I had of Superheros. His Superman was not a superhero but come kind of god. I've always admired his way to draw. Alex "AIUTO" Ross. Through away all of your pencils and look at his art...INCREDIBLE
Heroes saving the day to a rocking soundtrack?...I'd consider any season of "Battlestar Galactica" as having taken on that attribute. Seriously Bear McCreary rocks, seriously.
its a fun sf..the colours are vivid..the costumes over the top.almost camp..its a space pantomime with a rockin soundtrack ....the scene were ming meets flash and his crew 4 the first time...is cool ......now 4 the down side...i didnt like the ending...ming could have put up a bit of a fight..i wanted him to get away..he died 2 easy ..i see flash not as a superhero..but just a classic hero..no super powers just determination..bravery goodness and a lot of brute strengh..flash in 3d wood b ok.
This movie was so much fun when I saw it for the first time when I was 10. They showed it to us at school in the 5th grade in the assembly hall on a projection unit. It was such a treat.
It was funny hearing Alex Ross comment on the thrill of hearing the Flash Gordon theme for the first time, because it was an equally exquisite treat for me. Ross says it all here, the visuals and music are outstanding, the actors have a lot of flavor, and a witty script makes it all the more interesting. Its much better than the new hack job TV show with bland visuals and consistently boring scripts.
I feel the saem way about Flash, as a kid and as an adult has such a punch. The music and the visuals, they stand on their own. If they did a new Flash I dont think it would have the fun in it without Queen. But it would have a darker sense making it a different character. I wonder if it could be done. I still feel that rush at the opening titles and the end as the ship in flames transfixes Ming:-)
NOT TO MENTION EVIL PRINCESS AUORA ALEX - DAMN THAT GIRL WAS SEXY!

Alex Ross's art always reminds me a bit of Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon art.
