@Tasthedeadcomedian Are you using Ableton Live? I have tried to recreate the eq and compression used on the video in this Live document : j(dot)mp(slash)c9Sn5o
Holy cow. We are hitting 100.000 views soon. To celebrate this feat we will give away a copy of Synplant to the first person sending us a screenshot showing a view count of 100.000 or greater. It's astonishing how much fun you can have with what is basically a fancy randomize button! The whole idea is pure genius, and it doesn't hurt the synth sounds good on its own too. Purchsed it today.
hey how do i get the file for the plastic malimba setting? ...i made one that was close to it but i want the preset file to compare and for use. so could u let me kno where to get it???
@Tasthedeadcomedian I have uploaded a zip containing the original patch and midi file. It should give you approximately the same sound. There might be some subtle compression / eq on the video as well, I don't remember to be honest. The file is on: bit(dot)ly (slash) b8CNFF
@Tasthedeadcomedian Well, if it isn't something simple like tempo, pitch-bend range setting or a problem with the midi-file in your host it must be the mastering chain. I don't recall the exact tools we used, but it sounds like there is a compressor and some treble boost. Have you tried that? For example a shelfing high-pass +4.5db eq at around 1khz. This setting sounds very close to the original here on my setup. Play with your compressor and eq. I am using Live btw.
@purkyisgod Thanks. It's from a track of mine called RuckZak. It is featured on the Synplant product page. (In the player on the middle of the page. Click forward two songs.)

One of these days I'm hopefully going to buy it, that's for sure. =D
Glad you like it Nick. Concerning TPB, you do realize that you are commenting on a video that was posted by malstrom72 = Magnus Lidström = Sonic Charge = the developer of Synplant = me?
Really glad you like it. It is from the first half of the final track on the "Synplant Radio" that runs on our home-page, but with different instrumentation. YouTube doesn't allow direct url:s in comments, but decrypt this: our-home-page slash "static" slash "mp3" slash "surfixe" dot "mp3".
Synplant works in both GB and RAX. In GB you need to double-click the track and select Synplant as the generator for the "software instrument". It is a bit backwards, but google on plug-in and GarageBand and I am sure you can find some tutorials. In RAX I remember it to be pretty straight forward, since it is basically a plug-in player. I suggest you check the user manual.
No RTAS version in the making, sorry. I can reveal that a minor upgrade (v1.0.1) is on its way and this one should be compatible with fxpansion's RTAS wrapper.

Is there a way of controlling all the parameters in the gene manipulation via the VST automation lanes i couldn't see that there was or am i missing something ?
Sorry to say, this is not possible in version 1.0. There were some design issues as well as technical problems with exposing all the genes as VST parameters. However, this is probably the most common request so I'll do my utmost to come up with a solution in the future.
If you want to see more of Synplant in action, check out some of Torley's clips here on YouTube (e.g. v=DWC6YPXONos). They certainly put a big smile on my face...
I think this patch was something I cooked up for one of the radio tunes. Not sure if it made it to the factory sound bank. I am planning on uploading the Live documents for a few of the radio tracks plus the patches soon. (I have also tried making standard midi files out of a few radio tracks, but it was quite hard with all automation etc.)
Hi peeps. Just want to check in and say thank you for all the wonderful feedback on my software. It warms my heart to read all these positive impressions. Some people have asked for an mp3 link to the outro tune. Unfortunately I don't think I can post urls here, so please contact our support for a link. The track is called Synplant Mohito and you can hear the full version on our myspace page (search for sonic charge) as well as on the Synplant product page on our site.
There's a million great Synthesizers out there... and each one often caters to a certain mood you're in.
But sometimes you just don't know what you want to make... sometimes you don't really know what kind of sound you're going for. For those moments there's Synplant!
You fiddle around with it, something catches your attention and you go with it. I love it! :)
The thing about it, is that you slowly sculpt the sound by weeding out bad "genes" and keeping the ones you like. You still have the knobs and controls you're used to (it's depicted in a big fancy DNA chain thing), but the oscillators' controls are meant to be "sculpted" with the plant concept.
Honestly, when it comes down to it... I have a million synths, and I love them all, but frankly they're not imaginative. They all work generally the same way. This doesn't. It's innovative and inspiring.
I'm in love with this thing. I just got omnisphere and alchemy (love both) but this was 1/3 the price and funner. I've hooked it up to tiction and pulled some amazing random performances out of it. absolutely a joy to play with.
Wow!!!! I have tried the demo and now I am buying this. As a producer I find it important to get ideas from conception to the marketplace as quickly as possible, so I must thank you for helping to speed up my workflow. If you develop any new synths with an interface similar to this I would be very interested. I love innovation when it works and this does.
magnus I've got a question ...the dna helix alters the sound ass well as the branches ...But when you alter a branch ( stretch it ) does it randomly alter the parameters in the dna helix ?
Cause when I do and move back to the dna helix I see no changes in the settings ...enlighten me
Yeah, the branch mutates the dna by random when you stretch it, but the dna you edit with the gene manipulation tool is the dna of the seed. The root settings for all the branches so to speak. Sorry to say, but you cannot see exactly how a specific branch changes the dna, except for planting it as a new root seed.
The main purpose is to clone the mod-wheel behavior. The mod-wheel makes all branches grow simultaneously, which you can see in some of the patch demos. If you find a branch that grows and morphs nicely, you can clone it to make all keys behave the exact same way. We didn't go that deep with this video, but there is a built-in step-by-step tutorial in the software that I can recommend.
Actually, the PC version ought to work in any host supporting VST 2.0 or higher. During the development I've been using Hermann Seib's free VSTHost for testing purposes. It is not a full blown sequencer, but it is sufficient for trying out plug-ins with a MIDI keyboard.
I answer yes for your both questions. Well, im sorry to say this but this video gave me the impression that the vst had a lot fewer presets than 550. And neither did I see any famous sounds from successful songs, just a bunch of nonsense sounds that i probably will never use. As a producer i often get requests to make songs that sound like other songs, so this is of the highest importance for me- therefore i think i will continue to use vanguard with all the presets available to download. thx
The downloadable trial version (which is fully functional for 3 weeks, including saving and loading) includes 300 patches, and another 250 is available for download if you register. The idea is that you create your own patches by exploring offspring from these factory patches.
Thanks for the responses. You will have to bear with us for the intolerance, all musicians is like nazis when it comes to new VST's. It takes time for us to get comfortable with something new. I will for sure try this vst.Thanks.
The interface is cool. But I can't see anything new... Sounds are quite ordinary. That's a great toy to play with, but I wouldn't use it to record a song or to play live.
I wouldn't say the plug-in itself is ordinary, I was speaking about the sound and the way sound is created. The interface is really something new and interesting but I have the feeling that the sound could be produced by a few modules on a modular synth (that's what I use) and I don't really feel the link between the sound and the seed. The idea is interesting but you could go further. It would probably be less "mainstream sound" though and less easy to access...
Ah. Glad you appreciate the interface. Sure, I don't doubt that you could produce these types of sounds on a modular system and if that offers you the workflow that you prefer, there are hundreds of products to choose from. Which is exactly why I didn't design a modular synth. :)
Most unique synth I've ever come across, so interesting!

You fiddle around with it, something catches your attention and you go with it. I love it! :)

Massively inspirational at the least.

This looks and sounds really, really good

This sounds cool!

can't take this one serious... it's more a game or something then a plugin to make nice synths out....
DeceiverNL 2 years ago
What does that matter? it makes gorgeous sounds
unku 2 years ago
well i think you're not realy in control of the sounds...
DeceiverNL 2 years ago
If you have actually downloaded the 21 day trial, you realize that you have total control of all the sounds. Try it...you will like it...
spudzzzz57 2 years ago
The thing about it, is that you slowly sculpt the sound by weeding out bad "genes" and keeping the ones you like. You still have the knobs and controls you're used to (it's depicted in a big fancy DNA chain thing), but the oscillators' controls are meant to be "sculpted" with the plant concept.
Honestly, when it comes down to it... I have a million synths, and I love them all, but frankly they're not imaginative. They all work generally the same way. This doesn't. It's innovative and inspiring.

They gotta put this program on the ds
0MarciaAlexandria0 2 years ago
ghehe, lol, a vst plugin for the ds:P
DeceiverNL 2 years ago
They got a plug-in for the ds?
0MarciaAlexandria0 2 years ago
no, you said they should do it, and i had to laugh about it a bit:P

The korg ds-10 has gotten me really exited about the prospect of portable synths! I hope they keep making more
unku 2 years ago
I'm in love with this thing. I just got omnisphere and alchemy (love both) but this was 1/3 the price and funner. I've hooked it up to tiction and pulled some amazing random performances out of it. absolutely a joy to play with.
syzygywell 2 years ago

Cause when I do and move back to the dna helix I see no changes in the settings ...enlighten me
WARDISWARD 2 years ago
Yeah, the branch mutates the dna by random when you stretch it, but the dna you edit with the gene manipulation tool is the dna of the seed. The root settings for all the branches so to speak. Sorry to say, but you cannot see exactly how a specific branch changes the dna, except for planting it as a new root seed.
malstrom72 2 years ago
Too bad the parameters in the dna helix aren' tautomatable ..maybe in a future update ..magnus ;)
WARDISWARD 2 years ago
this synth deserves a nobel price! this is the most single inspiring synth ever - big kudos!
jokijarvi 2 years ago
The main purpose is to clone the mod-wheel behavior. The mod-wheel makes all branches grow simultaneously, which you can see in some of the patch demos. If you find a branch that grows and morphs nicely, you can clone it to make all keys behave the exact same way. We didn't go that deep with this video, but there is a built-in step-by-step tutorial in the software that I can recommend.

anyone know where i can get a free VST host for this plugin. I think it has to be at least version 2.4
BenOliver21 2 years ago
Actually, the PC version ought to work in any host supporting VST 2.0 or higher. During the development I've been using Hermann Seib's free VSTHost for testing purposes. It is not a full blown sequencer, but it is sufficient for trying out plug-ins with a MIDI keyboard.
malstrom72 2 years ago
cool, id like to see a little more sound banks and presets, since im a preset klicker in general.
Paxadzor 2 years ago
Do you mean that you would like to see more patches demoed in the video (or in another video) or do you mean that 550 factory patches is too few?
malstrom72 2 years ago
I answer yes for your both questions. Well, im sorry to say this but this video gave me the impression that the vst had a lot fewer presets than 550. And neither did I see any famous sounds from successful songs, just a bunch of nonsense sounds that i probably will never use. As a producer i often get requests to make songs that sound like other songs, so this is of the highest importance for me- therefore i think i will continue to use vanguard with all the presets available to download. thx
Paxadzor 2 years ago
The downloadable trial version (which is fully functional for 3 weeks, including saving and loading) includes 300 patches, and another 250 is available for download if you register. The idea is that you create your own patches by exploring offspring from these factory patches.

Thanks for the responses. You will have to bear with us for the intolerance, all musicians is like nazis when it comes to new VST's. It takes time for us to get comfortable with something new. I will for sure try this vst.Thanks.
Paxadzor 2 years ago
The interface is cool. But I can't see anything new... Sounds are quite ordinary. That's a great toy to play with, but I wouldn't use it to record a song or to play live.
DamagedMeat 2 years ago
Sorry to hear that you find it ordinary. Out of curiosity, which software *would* you use to record a song or play live with?
malstrom72 2 years ago
I wouldn't say the plug-in itself is ordinary, I was speaking about the sound and the way sound is created. The interface is really something new and interesting but I have the feeling that the sound could be produced by a few modules on a modular synth (that's what I use) and I don't really feel the link between the sound and the seed. The idea is interesting but you could go further. It would probably be less "mainstream sound" though and less easy to access...
Cheers, keep going.
DamagedMeat 2 years ago
Ah. Glad you appreciate the interface. Sure, I don't doubt that you could produce these types of sounds on a modular system and if that offers you the workflow that you prefer, there are hundreds of products to choose from. Which is exactly why I didn't design a modular synth. :)
