  • Thank you for the lesson, it helps beginners like me a lot!

  • Ads end on 00:48 Though I like them, quite good.

  • very helpful info for beginners...thank you!

  • Not sure I understand about the shutter speed in relation to the florescent lights. If the lights are say 60Htz then what should my shutter speed be? 1/60 of a second??Also is it the same in Canada as USA?

    Thanks,

    Hunter

  • thank a lot nextwaveg for your inf ..

  • best tutorial!!

  • Great Video...what I wanted to know, which one is better. I have a Canon Hv30 but I am about to pick up a Canon 6D.

  • Did you shoot the intro? It looks great

  • @CoryHeimann Yes. We shot it on a 550D with a Zeiss 50mm f1.4 and a macro adapter.

  • noise not grain. Grain is for film, Noise is a digital term

  • This is really helpful.

  • How exactly what you recommend setting white balance for video?

  • Thanks. Very informative :)

  • Great tutorial but you should insert video examples to illustrate what you are talking about (shutter speed, grain, white balance ...)

  • @johannes914 Exactly my thought.

  • Thanks Tony Great episode!

  • thanks great series I love it im learning a lot

  • @Samotastic - That brings me to my next question. I usually shoot at 24fps because it gives me a nice filmic look. If I was to switch to 60fps on my Canon 7d would it still have that filmic look? I'm asking this question because I want to keep that filmic look but also have very smooth looking slow motion clips. Also, does shooting at 60fps eat more memory then shooting at 24? I have a 32 gig compact flash card.

  • Awesome tutorial keep up the good work. I started out with the intent to make short Indie type movies, but am slowly being moved into the corporate side of this venture. Your tutorials have really elevated me to reach that professional level, mind you I'm still a student here and have a lot to learn. Currently I have an AX2000 and it's been a joy to work with, but soon I will get a Canon 60D or 7D. Again keep up the good work and can't wait till the next tutorial.

  • Fantastic! I've always wondered about what I should have my shutter speed on - this is my first time hearing of the 180 rule. I thought the 180 rule had to do with continuity of the actor's placement..

By the way, thanks for putting these out here on Youtube!!!

  • @IbunnyrabbitI There is a "180 rule" when placing actors and cameras too.

  • it would be nice if you had some examples to go with what you saying so it will be much easier to understand

  • Hello! I just recently purchased a Canon 60d. Now I have an 8gb SDHC Sandisk card...And it works absolutely fine! Then, my latest purchase was a 32gb SDHC Sandisk, I put it in my camera, and it does an automatic stop recording in around 8-10 seconds. If you could give me any ways to trouble shoot, or fix this problem?

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • It would be better if he had the actual camera in his hands so we can see how he sets it for an example

  • So if I'm shooting at 24fps and I set my shutter speed to 1/50th of a second will I be able to slow down the footage in FCP and get a smooth slow motion? I'm trying to avoid the choppy look. I've been shooting at 24fps at a shutter speed of 1/30th of a second.

  • thanks for sharing all these tips. It really helps people coming from both video and photography backgrounds. keep it up!!

  • great tutorial!

WHEN IS THE 5D mk3 COMING!!! just need that now :P

  • @WAYOFFproduction Know one knows yet, some people say mid 2011 other say mid 2012

  • @JPettsProductions ow god! better not be 1012, been waiting long enough already :p

  • @JPettsProductions Basically Canon have no reason to bring a 5D MK III in, it still selling well, there is nothing else like it on the market, it has a bigger sensor than the RED Scarlet or red one i think and it has better ISO noise performance, so they just wanna milk it as much as possible, i really would start expecting to see a 5D MK III at the earliest mid to late 2011

  • @JPettsProductions The difference is that the canon 5d mark 2 is more affordable than the red one. However the Red one has more to offer in a cinematic sense, due to it's available options. But we are talking a full on cinematic camera vs a D-slr meant for the general public and professionsals alike. I believe the more affordable red ones they have coming out just wont be able to compete with the canon slr's. But thier 25k camera has alot to offer, if you are working on a full production set.

  • What I have heard is that Canon will update the 7D before upgrading the 5D Mark II. W/ the Sony Alphas having better auto focus during video shooting in their SDLRs (while still not great) is a step in the right direction for competion!

I do have a question: When shooting videos with the 5D, The mirror stays up, the 1st and 2nd curtains stay open so what goes on in the camera when manually changing the shutter speed during video shooting with the 5D? Is it with the electronics

    Meltdownman

  • I just got a JVC video camera. Wish I would have held out and got a HDSLR. I had no idea there were gonna blow up the video scene. It's like McDonalds creating a superior pizza and overtaking Dominos.

  • great tutorial! I look appreciate that you put that much effort in your videos, but the thing is, that it would be better if you would show us directly on your hdslr what consequences the different settings are having, especially for people who's mother language isn't english. just a tip, but seriously, keep it going, great work!

  • good show guys keep them coming

  • i like this show!

    thx for the upload!

cant wait for my 7d to get fixed...

    error 20... dame... dame!!!
