Its all about the MONEY for puppy mills, backyard breeders. and reputable breeders too. At least have a 3 YR. moritorium on all bought, adopted and sold puppies that they are sold spayed/neutered and not before 4 months of age. Go to every pound, shelter and rescue and see the abuse,cruelty,neglect of thousands of puppies,dogs,kittens,cats and older pets unwanted, lost and unclaimed.

AB 1634 was put to sleep today in CA. It could come back as another bill next year, or the same bill with more amendments. Levines amendments were going backwards though.

I just read that the CVMA pulled their support of this bill. I was a bigger supporter of regulating breeders until I found out that in my city, I can't even get a permit to have an extra dog, although the county allows for that. (City law trumps county. Who knew?) Plus AB1634 defeated its own purpose with allowing anybody to apply for a "just one litter" permit. What kind of sense does that make? And no protection for working stock dogs. Its a bad bill overall.

I don't live in CA, but I do spend a great deal of time and money there doing things with my dogs, since there are not many shows and no AKC lure coursing in NV. Did you know that a shelter in the Northeast imported a puppy carrying rabies from Puerto Rico? 6 employees had to get rabies treatment. What diseases are these pups from other countries carrying? Why are the shelters importing them unless pet overpopulation is a lie?
