Although the severity of the infection may not be as bad now, it could eventually mutate again and not only be as contagious, but more deadly as well. That is why the CDC and WHO is so worried about this outbreak. In a matter of days since we discovered it, it's already been popping up around the world and reached a phase 5 level of outbreak which has never been issued! So I'd think twice about just calling it the "sniffles".

I think the hype is a little over the top but I understand what your saying. It seems to me that there is something else to panic about every month. And people start doing stupid things based on the hype coming from the media. I read this morning of all the deaths in Mex, only something like 27 are confirmed to be this strain of flu, the others may have been the common everyday flu.

Here in the US I've read that at least 50,000 die of the flu every year. But because this is such a combo strain, it has caused a lot of worry by the CDC and WHO. Could be very bad or it could turn out to be just another flu bug. Time will tell. I'll be the first one to admit being wrong if people start dropping like flies.

Pandemic means a large spread of a disease, it doesn't mean people are going to die from it. Look at the comments section on my channel for a tiny bit more info. This obviously is a pandemic just with the spread of it in Mexico, it is obviously going to spread throughout the US. Deaths from an illness or disease has no bearing on the illness being labeled a pandemic.

Yep, you're right. Sociology was one of my minors so I'm fairly well versed in this type of terminology. I think mostly this time people are thinking it is because "everyone" is bringing up the 1918 pandemic that killed millions, so people think that pandemic means death.

The influenza virus is known to mutate erratically and change every year. This is why there are annual flu shots! This might bring up the question of why the avian bird flu wasn't that bad. This is because the avian bird flu was never human to human communicable. This new strain of swine flu IS. It's a mix of the bird flu, the regular flu (the one's humans get) and I believe 2 strains of swine flu. Because of this, its highly contagious and can be caught just like the normal flu.

This allows for further spread of the virus to fellow passengers that probably live all over the world. The reason why TB, sars, polio etc wasn't as big of a threat was because it wasn't the influenza virus (oh yeah I forgot about aids..which is SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED or transmitted through sharing blood btw...so it doesn't really land in the same category just fyi).

Well, to answer your question why its (the "media hyped pandemic") a threat to society is because of the way people travel today. We fly in planes thousands of miles around the world. This allows for further spread of the virus to fellow passengers that probably live all over the world.

Yes, I think it's a distraction, but I also think that it is a test to see how quickly and easily a virus can be spread. All they need to do next time is mix H5N1 into a mix and you have about a 60% mortality rate. There are several things going on politically, such as Obama's plan to take away our Constitutional right to have a lawyer present before speaking with the police. It also takes away from the fact that we are still in economic hell, the list goes on.

People who R dying R young & healthy rather than the old & very young, older people, especially those who haven't grown up being shot full of vaccines have developed immunity whereas younger healthy people R dying.There R only 68 cases in the US so far, and about 1,500 in mexico with fatality over 140 fatalities, that's 10% no one has any idea what's going to happen with this, it has only existed on the face of the earth for 5 days either way this goes a lot of people R going to look dumb.

Simulating the economy..ya know. I helped raise a couple of swine for dinner meat a while back and it's not easy. They're smart and like to know what's happening "just over there" outside their pen. We didn't feed them anything other than left over scraps from the restaurants around the area and they are good eaten.
