Is a very good book, as far as warning goes, and fairly good as far as writing goes. I recommended it to my sis, who read it , and poo-pooed it to some degree, because she was in the military, and said "they taught us about EMP years ago, and its not likely that people's personal electronics will be affected" need I say more? Yes they will be affected, at least to some degree. I also read the government's commission on EMP report, and it is vague, with recommends 2 fix. Our biggest threat!
Usually like your videos, but this is full of right wing propaganda. Right wing characters are fine, but unbalanced politics is unrealistic and just bad writing
I downloaded this book in audio form from Audible.com. It was a real eye opener. Many scenarios I never would have considered. Don't let the book get you depressed. Use it to motivate you to prep!
Bought this book because of your video I could not put it down read it over three days a record for me. I am not worried about a super flu and I think we will survive a city being attacked but an epm or mass civil unrest I think thing would get bad really quick
This book was very eye opening and I think any father that reads this will scare you in to action.Other than reading the Bible I don't think I've gotten emotional over reading a book.
A bunch of you guys are assholes who think you know it all but u truly don't know anything about emps. Just because you play mw3 doesn't mean u know exactly what a emp is. Looks like a cool book I want to read it
EMP can aslo come from the sun ... and what is more interesting the scientists predict that the highest sun activity is predicted for 2012. Well I am not a 2012-nut but I personaly believe that every information out there has its direct or indirect "meaning". Also I comented on one other video of yours that I am making a personal collection of information. A way to protect a laptop for EMP is to put it in a steel diplomat case and to put the case in steel millitary amo box.
EMP can also come from the Sun ... even the scientists say that the highest solar activity is expected in 2012. I personally am not a 2012 fanatic but i believe that every information has its "meaning" and purpose ... whether it is direct or inderect.
I am 205 pages into One Second After I was given this book by a family member and told it was scary and realistic and while id like to get into that side of the read i can't because of how absolutely ridiculously poor this book is written. There is SO MANY grammatical errors, missing words, mis-spellings, punctuation issues...That it was almost unbearable to read like every other page. This book was NEVER proof-read before release which is a catastrophe.
@Crucifer555 I'm at page 216 and the only error I've noticed is an accidental usage of "to" instead of "too"......you're half way through the book, try getting into the story.
I have finished this book and there is TONs of grammatical errors it was unbearable to read. I would have to get the book and give you the numbers of every other page that there is some sort of error. Its sad.
Just finished reading this One Second After, read Lights Out. Lights Out woke me the HECK RIGHT UP and now after reading One Second After I am truly worried for our Country.
That was a great book and it's a good book to loan friends as a conversation starter on prepping.
This book and Alas Babylon show how small towns survive (barely) attacks with decent leadership and a largely capable population.
I'd like to see a book about living in an urban area with Marion Barry type leadershp after an EMP attack. It would no doubt be depressing as hell but it would probably prompt a trip to Walmart for ammo and canned goods.
If someone really wanted to screw the world, they would use an EMP over SE Asia. Nearly all of the worlds goods (and microchips) are manufactured there.
Thanks for the heads up on the book. side note I thought for some strange reason you lived closer to the coast. you and I live within an hour of each other.
I bought the book off of amazon after watching thisrecomendation about a week ago. I never thought i'd read so much since highschool but I couldnt put the book down. It was almost as though I was in each characters shoes watching what was going on through 1st person point of view. It was well worth the money and I recomend it to anyone and everyone willing to learn
An EMP weapon would be perfect for a country like North Korea to use against the U.S. They already have nukes and missiles that could deliver an EMP device to the West Coast of the U.S. The advantage of an EMP is that it doesn't have to be delivered "on target" like a nuke on a city. All Kim Il Jong has to do is aim it in the general direction of the continental U.S. and detonate it at high altitude somwhere off the West Coast--frying electronics as far east as Denver.
@frantic1971 I know Kim Il Jong is considered an enemy of the US, but why would he "deliver an EMP device to the West Coast" ? just to say that he did it?
@BriannaStar1234 If Kim would ever come to the conclusion that the "game was up" for him--either after he starts a war on the Korean peninsula and the massive U.S. retaliation dooms his regime. Or if rising domestic discontent threatens to oust him like it did with Ceaucescu in Romania. It would fit perfectly with his character to "take as many down with me" as he can. Out of spitfullness and vindictiveness to cause as much damage as he could before he met his own demise.
Just finished reading this book...good LORD ! That was a rough story ! " Rough" in that this is a very REAL possibility, and the year-long struggle that the town has gone through...makes you think. Good read, but disturbingly realistic.
I have done some independent studies and have discovered that most vehicles wouldn't be disabled although this wasn't a guarentee they used a less powerful pulse then could be created.
Just a little plug for the greatest book of all times The King James Bible I highly recommend reading it from cover to cover 5 times kjv only all others are a perversion
Just finished reading this and although I knew what it was about and what the consequences were to be, it still shocked me to the core. I'm already into survivalism, but this is the stuff of nightmares.
Just starting it, good so far. Patriots is a great book you will like if you like this one. Its similar situation following a group in norther Idaho following an economical collapse.
Found it three months ago when it first came on Amazon. First rate! I have been preparing, but COMPLETELY FORGOT food for my pets. Now they're taken care of. Beans, bullets and band aids. Spend your money on that, as well as gold and silver. You won't go wrong.
These weapons are also 'affectionately' called 'time machines' since they will turn back the clock to 1900 as far a technology is concerned. Also, the Obama administration has removed China from the top 10 list of dangerous countries. IDIOTS!! The Chinese have 1000's of cyber hackers working 24/7 attacking all aspects of the US including technology and , defense. Why spend billions to develope a defense system when you can steal it!!
@alexsm5682 it sets us back more like to the 1500s because we have no as a society forgot many of the important tasks to survive in a world without power.
If everything that runs on electricity stopped, how would a person survive, get around, get money from their account, or even buy food. Even clocks on batteries would die, so even the time of day would not be a certainty. On any regular day, were this to happen, what can be done? Everything stops.
I have to tell you, im just a 6th grade student and read this book... BEST BOOK EVER AND PROBABLY BEST BOOK ILL EVER READ AND I HEARD THEY ARE MAKING A MOVIE ABOUT IT!!!!!!! :-O :-)
Ya, good book. I read it & ran around in circles in panic for a month or so, then bought an EMP proof dodge pickup with a mechanical Cummins B series engine (for 7000). It took 5 months of overtime and a tight budget to pay for the thing. If an EMP goes off I'll load up my food, equipment, & weapons and burn rubber for my bug out location. I'd stop for no one (especially the police) since the moment I stop he'd confiscate my truck at gunpoint and I'd be on foot and probably dead within a week.
Ya I'm prepared but I'm more of the modern survivalist type. I do food storage and guns but I'm also big on knocking down debt and growing some of my own food. I have only 20,600 left on the mortgage and I plan to have it paid off this year. Then even if lost my job and couldn't find another one, I'd still be ok for a couple years.
I'm a big fan of the survival podcast. The guy gives a lot of great advice on getting prepared, in a more balanced and less panicked way.
Sounds like you have your head on straight. Yeah, getting all freaked out only leads to being overwhelmed.... just one step at a time is my motto. I'll have to check out the survival podcast. Thanks~
I would rather watch Jericho. I anticipated this book with hopes it would give a lot of info, instead it was more about fears. It does explain some about being prepared as far as why disease will be in issue, organize quickly but as far as details about what an individual can do it lacked. Not what I was expecting, a bit disappointing. Recommend reading The Road if you like post apocolyptic stuff.
After all the craziness started happening last fall, I started stocking up on non-perishable food, but this is on a whole different level. The book is graphic, but it makes you aware of what could happen. Now I'm considering buying a gun or rifle, a water purifier and an old jeep with no computers inside. Thanks for the vid!
I watched a movie made in the 80s not too long ago, called The Day After. It is extremely touching and graphic, but i believe that it is a good movie for making people aware of what could happen. It is set outside of Kansas City (not sure which one) and multiple full sized nukes fall from the Soviets to try to take out America's launch sites.
@D33Lux "Threads" and "The Day After" were good movies but a bit unrealistic. Take into consideration both were made by very anti-nuke activist film makers who had gathering others to their cause in mind.
If you want to understand what a nuclear war would likely look like read:
Nuclear war survival skills by Cresson kearny and forwarded by Edward Teller.
Just finished chapter 7. I like the story. It seems to be going in the direction of the TV Series called Jericho. Towns vs. towns / town vs. outsiders.
Another good book is about haw a family, their friends, and a subdivision in texas deal with the same event. It's a free download from the frugal squirrels website called "lights out". It's an excellent book that prompted me to stock up even more and start taking Karate classes along with practicing with firearms.
One thing about the city. Even if you have a working car you won't be able to use it unless the EMP happens at night. The roads would be jammed.
Thanks for the tip on the book! I've heard of the device they have that they can use to zap your car and stop the engine--I take it this will be used at checkpoints. Marshall law in full swing will be a terrible time.
You can build one in your garage for around 70 dollars. People fail to realize how easy/cheap these things are to build, and how quickly they will zap you back to the stone age.
What are these "books" you speak of? never heard of such a thing! what is it like a computer monitor, that dosent take electricity? ; ) I will check that out, I am almost finished with my book I read when I am hiding at work.
"Patriots: Surviving the Coming Economic Collapse" By James Wesley Rawles is excellent and a must read too, but I would read "One Second After" first. You will not be disappointed... freaked, yes!
I have it..but haven't read it yet. Right now I am reading "Patriot" by James Wesley, Rawles which is also a post apocalyptic piece of fiction but based on an economic collapse. I highly recommend it! Looking forward to getting to "one second after"!
Hi Don. I heard this guy on talk radio the other night. Very good information and now he is on the best seller list. There are ways to protect some of your contact equipment too if you look at him on the Internet. Good recommendation.
I searched this out. Also search google for "Bill Forstchen on his new bestseller, One Second After" for the author's Fox interview. The audio book I googled and found in MP3 format for free which I'm sure is not legal. Thanks for the info!
I'll have to pick up Lights Out... sounds like it follows along the same lines. It took me a couple of days just to get my head back in the game. Thanks!
I'll check it out. Only problem here is Gingrich... the pro-NAFTA, CFR shill. Gingrich and "the Republic" are different ends of the truth spectrum. (Flack incoming)

I'll check it out. Only problem here is Gingrich... the pro-NAFTA, CFR shill. Gingrich and "the Republic" are different ends of the truth spectrum. (Flack incoming)
