This is pretty much impossible with a large lens like a 70-200 2.8. I think the most important thing is turn the camera off and point it down so that no dust will get in.
My only problem with this is that you're also exposing two lenses to contamination from above.
one thing he should have pointed out, that while doing this, you should NOT do this while standing under a tree. I saw a bird nail an open lens AND body in one long string of bird poo.
He wasn't happy and I did my best to be sympathetic.
I like it. It works for me. I just tried it with a Tamron 18-270 zoom which is 72mm diameter and a Canon EF-S 10-22 zoom which is 77 mm diameter and it works well. I have long fingers, so it works for me. It may not work if you have small hands. For me it solves the problem of changing lenses in the field. Thank you for this video!
And people who like to point out the mistakes should try having their own videos. At least this guy is helping (or trying to) people. Let's appreciate that.
I have a canon digital rebel SLR i bought about 5 years ago and have been wondering about a possible adapter so that i could use my old Ae1 canon 35 mil lenses on it. Would you know exactly what it would be called and where to find one? Ty for sharing this video.
Unless you have giant ass hands, you're going to drop lenses. This may technique may be great for this guy, but it's an AWFUL technique to recommend to other people.
really... whats the big deal? As if we're afraid to expose the inside in just a small amount of time. People can do it slow and careful without the risk of dropping those things.
damn... excellent technique, with practice i can change my lenses quickly in the safety of my padded camera bag without requiring someone to assist... and stop bringing in extreme factors like i have mega lenses or i like having my lens hood on when changing lenses yada yada yada, this technique works for what its meant for...
Then quickly and safely remove the cap on the lens going and attach the the body ALWAYS keeping the lens mount down dust cant settle on the sensor when pointing down (I say this but there is always a chance but greatly reduced)Hope this helps
I would definitely NOT use this style EVER. Multiple problems with this one as verbod said people WILL drop there lens doing this but most important always point the camera body lens mount down. Even with his quick change the sensor using this style is still briefly exposed and it only takes a milli second for dust to reach the sensor.dust settles or falls in.Take the cap loose on the lens going on NOT off then pointing the camera body (lens mount down)detach the lens coming off
good techniques..but you are keeping the rare of the new lens you are trying to install too long open so it can get some dust which could end up inside the camera and sensor..
@joedivision1992 ....really? youre gonna hate on him for thinking of something clever? It couldnt have taken that long, it's not like he's playing world of warcraft or something
@casey1234schoch its not cleaver its actually dumb. Maybe you haven't experienced dust on your sensor which would mean AMATEUR. So to your eye it looks cleaver. Being a pro photographer I like to think I have been around the block on this issue. See my tip at the top of this post on how I do it

Great video! I was always a little clumsy when changing lens. After a couple of tries, I can do it. Not only do I not dust in the camera now, but I look like a pro when people are watching me!
Good video, I always use that head-to-head-technique though, it works fine - but I don't always get a nice grip so it feels kinda loose and scary sometimes :p
Useful only for amateur lenses. Try that with two 2.8 lenses... Or with a bright wideangle and a tele :-) This video should las at most 20 seconds. LOL, that guy definitely likes talking :-)
Helped alot, thanks!) I don't have very big lenses,so this works just fine! Have changed them at least 10 times like that,no new dust detected! Thanks alot!!!
Good intentions, but this is probably the longest video to explain 'how to drop a lens' I have seen. I think this type of suggestion is just very reckless...
A better solution: put a lens in a bag, take another one from the bag, attach to the camera. In the future, when you decide to sell your lens on ebay, you'll save time describing all imperfections of the len's body.
You da man ! thanks for your tips.. This is something that nags me all the time, especially when i know im wasting my time trying to change lenses safely.
I just got a new lens and try that myself.... the problem is.. as I girl.. my hand is not big enough to hold two lens in the same time so this technique is not quite useful for me...
i don't usually have a problem with the changing, i have a problem pulling of the cap of the lens, putting it somewhere and putting it on the other lens...
Good technique, but not that effective if the end of your lens rotates. It'd need to be gripped from the base to avoid breaking the AF motor or grabbing the zoom ring.
Good video. But shouldn't you be concerned about dust getting into the lenses as much as dust getting into the camera and on the mirror or on the sensor?
Nice for the smaller objectives indeed, some of them are a tad to heavy.
Self I keep the cap of the camera close by and when I lift the "old" lens I slide in the cap. The new lens already having its cap unscrewed and move the "new" lens to hoover above the camera before cap off slide down and twist.
Good thinking, but I realy wouldnt want to use this technique, specialy when you work with bigger and heavier lenses. Holding expencive lenses with the tips of fingers, changing it fast, being in hurry to catch the moment...its like recipe for throwing it on the ground sooner or latter.
