I think gsp decides to push the head down is because with a whizzer the guy who is on the leg still has a chance to follow and get you agenst the cage. pushing the head will disable them to move/follow you up.
The one thing I don't like about this escape is the portion where they likely will grab your leg and try to retake you down. An experienced wrestler has a counter to that defense, I personally can think of 2 where I would be able to take an opponents back from it, or take their back and trap that arm.
I did this same escape but instead of kicking out I posted, stood up and out, then turned it into a rolling oomaplata. The key is to control the roll and really trap whatever arm is on top of my leg.
GSP, Anderson Silva, Randy Couture are great for the sport, humble but yet knowledgeable and dangerous. Guys like Brock Lesnar and BJ Penn they are egomaniacs. Yes, it is a violent sport, it is only violent in the ring for true champions, but there are some fighters that bring the violence outside the ring and that is not good for any sport. GSP should be an example for all, what a true champion is, inside and outside the ring.
Exactly, GSP has shown that he is willing to expose his strategy towards many opponents in an effort to advance the sport. He beat BJ by taking his speed away, by laying on top of him and having BJ to push off, therefore, blood rushes to the shoulders and in the later rounds, BJ did not have any speed to be effective. It is a chess match of strengths and weaknesses, BJ had treamendous speed in the 1st fight and GSP's counter was ineffective, but it was a diiferent story in the 2nd meeting.
@MusicforMe123 GSP yes, Randy yes, Anderson Silva NO WAY. I'm not really trying to make any huge argument but Silva is very disrespectful. I don't think he should be added to that list.
@MusicforMe123 Yeah man that last one was just so wrong. He is a champion indeed, I just want him to be a gentlemen as well. Too many kids look up to people who can kick ass. It's a shame to set that kind of example for them. Know what I mean?
he`s not that big but he can sure kick some ass.he came to my restaurant the other day...humble and down to earth kind of guy...two girls passed by his table and started to flirt with him but he just smiled back and thanked them for the attention...nicest guy ever...me, I would have taken both girls to my hotel room hhehehee
Well that is probably because he can get all the girls he wants...so the 2 random girls were probably not beautiful enough for him ;) GSP is the greatest athlete ever.
you gotta love when a fighter as strategically set up as GSP demonstrates and shares his own technique...so not only can you rely on the basic traditional stuff, but you learn something from a great fighter
I have a question, When he is escaping and he pushes down on there head could you do a whizzer(wrestling term) on them?

Actually if you study wrestling it will teach you to sit on his head in that move then jerk your leg out. But GSP still good!

Very well said. Not only is he a great fighter, from the looks of it he might be a great coach one day as well.
