ALMA GLUCK (May 11, 1884 – October 27, 1938) was a Romanian-born American soprano, one of the world's most famous female singers at the peak of her career (circa 1910).
EFREM ZIMBALIST, Sr. (21 April [O.S. 9 April] 1889 or 1890 – February 22, 1985) was one of the world's most prominent concert violinists, as well as a composer, teacher, conductor and a long-time director of the Curtis Institute of Music.
I think its kinda cool that in 8th grade we had to sing this song to try out for chors parts and now as I am an adult and researching my family tree, I have learned that I am related to Efrem Zimbalist.
I have a 78 of this tune beautifully playing the tune to this song, but without the words, so this was lovely. There's a really wistful sound about it, isn't there! Thanks for posting.
Her singing doesn't thrill me though it's good and of the sort never heard today. His playing and the cute meshing of Humoresque with Swanee is much more interesting.

I had always heard that the stage name Gluck was devised with the help of Met manager Gatti-Casazza, and was based on the name of the famous opera composer and along with Alma, was concocted for the sound.
Really doesn't matter but you make it sound like she simply took her first husband 's(she had no affection for him)
name. Also, her medical difficulties resulted in the ending of her singing career-she didn't just give it up to raise a family.

Miss Gluck was a very famous soprano around the turn of the 20th century. Her daughter was Marcia Davenport one of my favourite authors.

Cute how Efrem plays Humoresque as the accompaniment and bridge between verses.

Efrem Zimbalist Jr. is even better known for playing the part of Stuart Bailey on 77 Sunset Strip than he was for the part of Erskine on the FBI.

I think Zimbalist and Alma had a great time doing this. His playing is very voice-like. I bet the Foster-Dvorak combination amused them very much.
