John Carter of Mars? ARGH! Drat you, Hollywood! Stop remaking my childhood memories! I know it's going to be horrible, the same way Clash of the Titans had that awful remake.
@TheDensley7 Christopher Nolan is half American. In fact I'd say he's mostly American. He has an American passport, born to an American mother. Nearly all of his movies have been American. The only Brit movie he has done is his first. He live Britain to live in America permantly LMFAO!
Also all of Ridley Scott's movies have been finaced by Hollywood. There's very little 'Britsh' about these two people so HAHA!
@themenaceanish Haha! I only said that because I knew it would set you off on some pathetic, infantile nationalist diatribe with echoes of homophobia. Speaking of homo, I'd suck your balls and make your asshole bleed. I sure like bad boys!
@TheDensley7 just thought i'd tell you i found out my cousin lives near this joker, and when we tried to get a fight on the go he's suddenly ignored everything, yet he's gonna put a 'bullet in your head' awkward
Mark! Mark! Mark! What about Prometheus? There's a lot of stuff coming out this year to get excited about, but for me Prometheus is top of the list, personally.
Is Prometheus still going to be given two ratings? The original idea was to make the Alien version of On the origin of the species . Now it seems to be a traditional gore fest which I have no problem with but there is a fantastic back story if you chose just to focus on that
I always love your point of view Dear Doctor, but, about the "things" to come, none of the Marvels interesting me, Hobbit, Definelly, and you forgot Ridley Scott's Prometheus, well, I'm antecipating much more than Nolan's Batman, indeed, your point of View about the No use of 3D in the Nolan's Movie were very perspective, and I agree with you, welcome IMAX, welcome future... Oh, and yes, happy new year Mark, from Brazil.
I pray that 3D will die soon as I can not stand the headaches I get from watching them. To Blur an entire picture just to make one object in a scene appear as though it is closer to you than the rest of the scene is beyond stupid in my opinion. Happy new year Kermode :)
@themenaceanish Well, I just thought since I've befriended your mom so thoroughly these last few days I should extend the favor to her son. She sometimes talks about you when we're done.
@themenaceanish Also, you've been bashing the same people, movies and nationalities on the internet for ages now and you call ME boring. Such panache, sir!
@MsBkirk I think more interest comes from it being a Spielberg film than the story itself I am going to see it for that reason. If it was not done by a director of note then i could wait for the DVD
Can't wait for Prometheus but I think it says a lot that in a preview of 2012 the film that gets the most attention from Mark is TDKR. Who would have thought after Batman & Robin that the Batman series would be brought back in such a way that fans & critics alike are desperate for just a trailer of the new film to come out? I can't wait!
I'm excited out of my mind for 'John Dies At The End'. From what we've seen so far Bubba Ho-Tep and Phantasm director Don Coscarelli has nailed the visual oddity of the original novel, to the point where even the trailer is freaking out people I show it to. I like that is has new talent in the lead roles, and hopefully it'll be a film that won't A. Suck and B. If it doesn't suck get swept under the rug.
@MrBronzefonz maybe, but catwoman is some where inbetween, and the relationship between them creates more issues for the bat, so i still have my hopes up...
@kikkakieran My issue with the catwoman is she has a made to fit uniform , Whereas the other "Villains" had uniforms which reflected either their psychopathic minds or a injury. I just find the catwoman a bit too much post Burton Batman franchise
@MrBronzefonz i agree her uniform looks a bit crap, and there is a chance that this film ruins the trilogy, but i'm a bit of a batman fanboy and i have faith in nolan, so i'm preying your wrong.
@kikkakieran I don't think the uniform is crap but Nolan's Batman film have that battered rough around the edges look and it comes over as a bit clean. Its only uniform I know but with all Nolan s films everything fits and to see something which does not fit is a bit worrying. Of course Christopher Nolan will at some point will drop the ball and I think this is the one.
@MrBronzefonz There's only one Batman movie for me and that's Dark Knight. The other movie he directed Begins was mediocre at best. Dark Knight and hopefully Dark Knight Rises will go down as the most awesome comic book movies of all time.
@ChristopherDone As long as its better than that first mediocre movie Batman Begins I'll be happy. I have similiar doubts too about Dark Knight Rises not being able to match the awesomness of Dark Knight.
@KajiCarson Its not just about the films its about the people who make and star in the films . Last weeks broadcast had Michel Sheen talking about playing Hamlet in the theater So there is reasons why Mark could mention the Olympic opening as this may influence Danny in his next directorial choices
@XiaranUK well, there were sooooo many Alien movies and Scott's recent films have not been his best work that it may be better to go in with caution. Just because a director managed to do something right once, does not mean he can get the same thing right a second time (look at Star wars the originals vs the Prequels: they're made by the same guy 30 years after the success of the originals).
@Regenmacher175 Except that the original star wars movie was saved by its editors and the subsequent sequels were both written and directed by other people. George Lucas wrote the story and had a hand in the screenplay as well as producing credits. Ridley Scott has a great track record and while some of his films go awry he still comes back with great stuff. His last great film was American Gangster (though I didn't see Body of Lies)
3D skit - it was obviously a joke, just not particularly good.
I've never seen a 3D film and don't have particular desire to do so, but why be so actively against it? Being so 'anti-3D' is a waste of your time and energy IMO, it will die out as did all the other 'fads' (d'ya see what I did there?)
Seriously though, worthwhile films (those without cgi & explosions etc) will contiue to be released in regular format, while popcorn action films will occasionally enjoy an 'extra dimension', big deal!
@Regenmacher175 I'm used to getting my nads stomped into the ground after all those awful Alien sequels and spin-offs. With Scotty as captain, the film will at worst be a gentle pat on the scrotum, which I have no objections to.
