Folk metal is metal utilizing folk instruments (like Finntroll; accordions).

Folk metal CAN incl. chants but that doesn't make them folk metal. Also, viking metal is another genre than FM. VM takes a lot from FM, yes, but they are not the same genre. VM usually has an emphasis on playing in a style that makes the music sound "epic" as well as usually using the galluping rhythm on guitars (Ensiferum, Bathory, Tyr, etc.; Iron Maiden started the galluping thing) Clean vocals are also USUALLY utilized. There's more, but I've said enough.
