  • Its a class 40, can tell by the whistling.

  • @Monkstantonman thanks we now know

  • i get wood watching this !!

  • its almost rude to watch ...

  • @davidsweeney111 i know

  • this deltic and me snoring - PERFECT MATCH ...... LOL

  • @pvccat1 me to

  • Its a class 40 or as we called them... BIG D

  • @studig well it makes a lot of smoke

  • I see where the British came up with the smoke screen (007).

  • @Arabhacks yes but its so sexy with all that smoke its got character

  • Umma guessing someone forgot to put a bit of pertol in with the diesel.

  • talljake & Rooster1067 FYI its a 40. That is a Whistler not a tractor, lol.

  • @toady446 thanks

  • @toady446 I once lived next to a train line and often saw these, those in the know have already mentioned it's a Class 40, you are 100% correct.

  • If you like whistling have a listen to a Class 20 :)

  • fyi Its a Class 37, not a Deltic

  • @talljake we know now

  • Thats how I start up on a bad morning!

  • @Lookup2Wakeup i assume you mean your car

  • @ROOSTER1067

No I meant me (tongue in cheek!)

  • poor old engine - too cold..

  • train backfire

  • @yabran1 well lots of poping and farting until it warms up

  • I love it.

  • A Deltic idles at 700 rpm and is a diesel electric locomotive

  • this is a class 40 and not a deltic engine this has 2,000BHP and a deltic has 3,300BHP

  • I can tell you all with 100% certainty its a train! and some people on here need to get lives or better still girlfriends!

  • okay guys stop fighting over the small stuff!!!!!

  • it is 40145 in Buckley Wells East Lancs Railway. . . Anyone who things this was a Deltic or a class 37 doesn't know hos arse from his elbow.. . .

  • @Tumblerframe then i dont know a hos arse from from my elbow ,i am not a train spotter and dont have great knolage of trains ,just enjoyed watching it start up

  • @ROOSTER1067 I guess I dont know either. (must Google it) Only that I really enjoyed watching. Dont be put off by someone who knows all. Please post more videos. Thanks.

  • @Daikenboy yes i just enjoy watching ,i will be down eastlancs railway and will make more films chears

  • @Tumblerframe and anyone that know more than 'its a train' needs to get a life! great video

  • Has anyone mentioned this isn't a Deltic yet?! ;)

  • @dangerousandy i think it might have been

  • I got a feeling its 40145. Class 37s only have 2 exhaust holes at the maximum. This one had 4, which 40s had.

  • @jakelee16 i supect your right most people say its a class 40 on here ,as i am not well up on trains i cant say

  • Hold the horse, too much sulfur is in the diesel fluid, replace water from filer, re;place the plugs. You must run the equipment for one hour every day, do not let the equipment sleep for days. Use new type of diesel fluid when possible, replace the filter with a new quality of diesel fluid. You must fill the tank up to the top, to prevent condensation

  • I think that All Gore loves them too!

  • 40145 "East Lancs Railway" I assume?

  • @TimHall42 yes ,engine sheds

  • I totally aggree, these engines are impressive when starting up. Have a look for deltic start ups, these have a unique and unforgettable sound, keep posting the good videos

  • That is a class 37 not a Deltic. Thats a 4 stroke diesel not a 2 stroke napier deltic engine

  • @MrGeordiesteam i now belive but still a very impressive sight

  • @MrGeordiesteam It's a 40. You can hear the turbo chargers making that distinctive twittering sound and look at the distinctive orage electrical jumper at the lower left on the loco. 37s didn't have those.

  • @MrGeordiesteam It's a 40. You can hear the turbo chargers making that distinctive twittering sound and look at the distinctive orange electrical jumper at the lower left on the loco. 37s didn't have those. If you look from 2:37 when the photographer zooms in to the loco roof you'll see the four exhaust outlets of a 40.

  • @PenzancePete i see what you mean about the exhausts outlets chears

  • That is not a Deltic-it is a normal 4 stroke Diesel engine.

  • HI, WHERE CAN I GO TO SEE A DELTIC RUNNING? THANKS

  • @TheCHARGER426 i belive there is one running at east lancs railway bury

  • from 0:32 on it sounds like the fourth of july

  • Its obviously not American if it were truly American that smoke would be a pitch black for certain..

  • that is true ESP when u consider she is only running on half her clyinders..till she w arms up...

  • why does it keep backfiring Valve timming must be off.

  • @Johnny64ism may be ,it might just be its cold and it has no preheat so it runs dog rough

  • That's definately a whistler not a Deltic.

  • i used to hav e a car like that. Not a deltic, windows are different (unless its D5900)

  • Snow? In Great Britain? No wonder that old gal is smoking and steaming so much! zero C there is a spring day here... Really! 2nd week of spring and we just had 70 cm of snow dump on us! I believe our loco's are more adapted to cold weather starts. Tho that is one neat sounding engine! Just wish someone would post a clip of one actually running so I can hear what it sounds like when it's warmed up and ready to work!

  • @Tankerc If you want to see it running, then I suggest you search on YouTube for this title: 'Whistler 40145 on the Cornish Growler 27th June 2009'. It was really being worked hard that day...

  • @amosbriz ok i will look when i get a min

  • no, this one's definitely not a deltic! this is a class 40, i think...

  • Class 40 my friend :)!

  • man in blue jumper waddles like duck...

  • @RailwaySeriesKB i have just rewatched it and so he dose

  • @RailwaySeriesKB if you gotta go, you gotta go.......... (!)

  • This defenitly not a Deltic. a Deltic either starts first time or or not The same goes for shutting down very abruptly. It also does not idle like your conventional diesel but immediatly idles at about 300 rpm plus. I am not sure if these diesels in loco's had a critical rpm that would cause the engine to hydraulic if kept at that speed too long. old navy tiffy

  • Before the Green brigade start wetting their nappies this 'smoke' appears to be unburnt fuel and water vapour, which looks worse due to the cold.

  • @NJPurling yes it was a very cold day so there will be loads of ncondensation

  • This is a class 40 (English Electric type 4). Probably no. 40145. You can tell by the definitive whistle in the engine tone and the squareness of the lower bodywork on the nose. A 37 has a shorter nose and the lower bodywork is angled in toward the bogies.

  • This is a class 40 (English Electric type 4). Probably no. 40145

  • @gazbakerscouse your right :D!

  • Why can you hear loads of incoming artillery.rounds.

  • its a class 37 by the look of it

  • @M374EVL Class 40 40145

  • @dazxy2001 v16 not v12 then old chap

  • Actually try a Class 40

  • this is certainly not a Deltic try a class33 or 44

  • @cbracs i belive so

  • @cbracs why not try a class 37? do you know your trains!?

  • @HAZZASIB no i dont know much about trains ,i am not a full on trainspotter but i do find them intresting to watch especially when they make this much smoke when statring up

  • @ROOSTER1067 neither am i ,i was a marine engineer with twin deltics on minesweepers and know a deltic @ 20 paces and could make more smoke than a 37 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bad trains =/ why not to make them with gas :)

  • @quaxxac youre an idiot

  • @quaxxac go back to grade school you poorly educated child, your parents and past teachers should hang their heads in shame and disappointment

  • @fallenrival

proove it, proove that im am dumb ::)

  • @fallenrival why do you say that ??

  • @ROOSTER1067 said idiot questioned, why not make them with gas... ok.. gasoline power over diesel for freight or passenger applications in any scenario on the rails is a completely retarded and poorly thought out idea.

  • Good video

  • @pwalpar chears

  • hahahaha its not a Deltic! Any enthusiast will tell you thats a 4 stroke diesel the Deltics had Napier Detic 2 stokes and sound different sounds like a growler! Nice clag vid though

  • i guess you know is 40145 but still a nice video

  • without watching this it's easy to tell it's not a deltic

  • i think someone needs to push start it....anyone wanna go?

  • not a deltic sound that, class 40

  • Couldn't tell if you were starting it or burning it down ??

  • Shunter: Move yar fuckin' arse into AKSON before I get mai HOW-IT'S-ERRR on ye!

    Class 40: *yawns* But I don't wannaaaaa....

  • 40145, far more hellfire than anything napier!

  • @73129Dude

And who do you think made the turbochargers for the 40's which give the distinctive whistlng sound........ that's right Napier. Doh!

  • @powerunit417 its still an EE power unit

  • There goes your annual Kyoto allowance. Nice hobby though!

  • Cough, Cough !!!!, Yeah nice train.

  • @john1966elliott it was a cold day but the smoke was excessive

  • @ROOSTER1067 I know : ) Wait until long mins or hours , smoking will gone and engine getting hot.. But nice train and lovely smell diesel flumes and rugs of oils.

  • Rumble rumble... Nice. Great engine !

  • @fredriktaaje a smokey one.

  • This is a class 40, not a class 55 deltic..

  • @CRISIS550166 thanks for telling me as i say i am not a trainspotter but at the time i belived it was.

  • @ROOSTER1067 Nah you're just a stupid fuckface that's what you are. Dumbass.

  • @HelloHansSolo what have you wrote that for,we dont even know each other

  • @HelloHansSolo i see some one with no videos who makes rood remarks on other peoples videos but i guess you might not have electric to charge your camera if you live in cameroon.

  • @ROOSTER1067 You're a twit. Go fuck your mother, motherfucker.

  • @HelloHansSolo your blocked idiot,

  • @KG84C go away weirdo

  • Comment removed

  • A very nice video, but wheres the Deltic? Thumbs up anyway.

  • @Hanglands its my mistake ,i am far from a exoert on trains but a intresting sight

  • @ROOSTER1067 its a class 40 or whistler

  • ahh the smell of unburnt diesel fuel in a morning

  • @55022RSG it did smell good

  • Not a deltic either a class 37 or 40 with either an english electric 12/16 CTV or a mirlees power unit. the deltic engine sounds totaly different more like a low pitched drone.

  • why didnt they just bump start it with the shunter??

  • Awsome.

  • @RPKGameVids chears

  • stupid deltics are only good running full throttle ;P

  • Very niiiiiice little snowstorm the 40 is creating there

  • @Doomsday2060 it certainly was

  • it's not a deltic. it's a class 37 or class 40.

  • Sorry mate, thats not a Deltic thats a Whistler.

  • @adamtorbayexpress thanks mate ,i am far from a expert but i do enjoy watching trains

  • ...it is not bad engineering! It looks like bad starting behavior and air polution of the worst. If You see the German diesel V200 of that time it starts with much less smoke and is ready to use in minutes. But that is wrong, german diesels are pre heated. And if You take the pre heating time to the start time it is longer than the start-till-ready-to-use time of such class 40. Even the over all air polution result is better the British way. Newer German diesels are starting the British way.

  • Compression pressure varies a lot on a worn engine and that is all a diesel has to heat up the air hot enough to burn the atomized fuel. In cold weather, the worn rings, worn injectors just don't make for easy starting. All that white smoke is unburnt fuel. The first hard puff is the highest compression, best injector combo to get enough heat to fire off. Then the heat builds until the next one goes, etc. Governor engine rpm hunting is normal when cold.

  • @2010monkeywrench well its certainly impressive sight

  • At firts sight it looks like a Railfreight class 37!!.....soon found out that it was a 40.....just listen to it whistle!!!!

BTW 40145 means it is the 145'th class 40 to be built.

    Great vid

  • @PeterGarbett thanks

  • ohh my.... I'm gonna buy one of those house's on the left ;-)

  • you ,mean the house with a train in i suspect ,well why not

  • yeah the last house on the right on Maudsley Street ;-)

  • No, its the number of the engine, when there were many more Class 40s 145 was one of them...

Can someone else fill me in on how many 40s there were?

  • got you,i am learning fast now ,thanks

  • 200 class 40's were built and put into service

  • shame they aint many left

  • Comment removed

  • 40145

  • is this number a registration number

  • Beautifull machines those big V 12's 4 stroke diesels. I love the smokeplumes and the piston sound slowly building up more power as the engine slowly heats up.

I thought it was a class 37 at first but reading through the comments it is a class 40.

    Thanks for taking the video.

    Keep them coming.

  • some one said it was a class 37 then some one else said it was a class 40 as i am not a train spotter i not sure ,but i do know it was a impressive sight

  • Could pre-starters be fitted to these engines, and if so would it be very expensive to do so?

I'm no expert, but surely it can't do the engines any good starting so cold, plus all the smoke and crap they emit.

  • not sure but that might be with pre heat

  • That is a class 40 starting up not a Deltic class 55

  • i will have to do some research how to spot the difference

  • yes i can imagine what you mean

  • It's a Class 40. Typical English Electric start up from cold, probably after being in the shed for a while. A few cylinders missing till it warms up.

  • Why is it that all those British engines are so hard to start up? Looks nice but it's bad engineering...

  • @CoffieVerkeert

What makes you say that? For a start, it was built in around 1959/60, long before emissions standards wre thought of; and you can see what the weather conditions are like, i.e. it's a bit cold, and this is probably the first time it's been out since before Christmas.

  • @AndreiTupolev i was just joking

  • @CoffieVerkeert its probably well worn by now past its best

  • It's not bad engineering. It's beautiful old engineering from not long after WWII. Low-speed diesels (typically <1000rpm) from that era are simply not designed to run cold. If you pre-heated the engine, it would run cleanly and normally from start, but there's no point in adding the necessary equipment to do that, as it will still start from cold and be fine once it's warmed up.

  • @Murph9000 i glad to here its not worn out,and it is a beautiful engine even though im not a train spotter i still appreciate it

  • there not bad engineering, not one has failed yet were as all this foreign muck is =D

  • true

  • Gee I thought the steam age was dead, lol. that thing gives off enough smoke. what ever happen to going Green, lol.

    Len.

  • @Conrail6370 i think it going grey not green

  • Impressive yes, sexxxy......not sure

  • well in a mechanical sort of way,but not like a woman

  • It's actually a class 40, though there were two Deltic's out on the day.

  • i was not sure but i take it this looks similar to a deltic,.it was a impresive sight seeing it start up,no cataliticonverter on that
