  • I saw Zak play with the Who and he was truly incredible ... But always pisses me off when people slag off Ringo .. At the time of Ringo joining the Beatles they head hunted him as he was openly recognised as being the best drummer in Liverpool at the time .and these were the times when Liverpool was churning out some of the best bands in the land ..

  • If Zak wasn't the right person for the group, there's no way Moon would've taught Zak himself and the remaining Who members could have easily hired someone else to be their drummer. Out of all the drummers, famous and up and coming in the world, they chose Zak. Regardless of our opinions about Zak and his drumming style and abilities, I'm sure that nobody knows better than the original drummer and band members themselves who the right man for the job and the group is!

  • look at the early stuff like the ending to thank you girl, nobody had drumming like that on the toms up to that time but Ringo.

  • i guess drumming runs in the family

  • I don't think Ringo's drumming is better than the drumming on Carl Perkins Sun Recordings. I don't even know the drummers name on those recordings but he sure could play. Ringo is good but he had nothing on Carl Perkins' drummer that makes him better. That guy on the Perkins' recordings had some thunder in his sound that later drummers were never able to duplicate.

  • I know you Beatles fans want Ringo to be the best drummer ever. I get it. You love him. Understood. But for the love of God, he was no revolutionary drummer. He was a simple drummer, who never play a sixteenth drum fill, quad, or triplet. Listen to that solo on the video above. Time change from 4/4 to 6/8 in the same song. Keith Moon was that type of drummer. Jesus you people are crazy!

  • @p47paul Give a listen to "Happiness is a Warm Gun" again. No less than 5 time changes in one song and you never noticed did you? That's why Ringo is so great.

  • Not sure why anyone would disagree that Zak is a better drummer when compared to his old man. Yes, Ringo gets kudos for being in The Beatles. But the Beatles drumming is more on the pop side of things. The Who's music was always structured with more complex chords, riffs, bass lines, etc. No disrespect to the beatles fans, I know you love your Ringo. As a drummer, Zak gets my vote every time.

  • Zak is Ringo play in Keith Style True successor of 2 Greatest Drummer of all time

  • Zac Starkey is awesome here....loved him at the Super Bowl. The Who know....they can hear it when he drums......

  • Ringo and Keith were very close friends. They wouldn't want anyone fighting about them. It's not a competition.

  • Herdou a veia do pai. Toca prá cacete.

  • Let's not forget that Keith's drum solo on "Won't Get Fooled Again" is practically a DEAD ON note for note copy of Ringo's solo on "Carry That Weight/The End". So it comes full circle now... Also.. Zak was one of the drummers on the Keith tribute song from the 80's. "Under A Raging Moon." So why all the hate?

  • I seriously wonder if Ringo can play as hard as his son.

Oh, and Zak's wonderful drumming offsets Rodger Daltrey's horrific singing.

  • @Zimnyification listen to the beatles live concert in washington 1964.

  • "He studied with him, in the Keith Moon academic classes on drum destruction..."

Had me howling to imagine Keith teaching a little Zak how to completely explode a drum kit :')

  • Lol, keith moon academic classes of drum destruction, where can i join?

  • Decent? Yes. Incredible? Uhh...

  • Gotta be honest I thought he was rubbish. His hands are far to slow and he's looking for his drum strike...!! He ain't a drummer by birth he's someone who has tried to learn the drums obviously over many hours!! Good luck to him but he will get found out, he should be smashing his kit to bits to get something extra xxx

  • You're fucking idiots...Ringo invented rock drumming, end of story...Elvis, Holly, Perkins, were doing rock-a-billy...what Ringo played, which is the template for all drummers from folk rock to prog rock, all came from his fertile mind, he even invented punk, watch the intro to "She Loves You", same as any Ramones song..

If you don't get Ringo, then fuck off, Bonham quoted, I'm just a harder hitting bashing Ringo, how come the British guys get it but not here, fucking morons...piss off

  • @mppaiges I totally agree with you !!

  • @mppaiges with you dude. Even Keith Moon pulled a lotta stuff from Ringo. I think "I feel fine" is one of the craftiest drum performances he ever did. Super underrated by everyone who does nt get it ...

  • @mppaiges YEAH RIGHT!

  • @mppaiges I wish I was drum savvy enough to go toe to toe with people who dis Ringo, I have always known he was great, you can hear the difference, I just cant figure out why?? LOL Solid post!!

  • @mppaiges You are correct sir, I saw Ringo live at one of his shows and he is truly apeshit! on the tom toms...Nobody, I mean NOBODY can go round the toms like Ringo!

  • Zak Starr rocks!

  • Zak Starkey, hijo del gran Ringo y pupilo del Keith Moon, tenia que salir un gran batero, y ha sido parte de bandas como The Who (version 2000) y Oasis, con él completamos el cuadro.....

  • One of the best drummers of his generation, The Who & Oasis are lucky to have had him in their bands

  • Whoo! Go Zak!

  • 14 people got fooled again

  • Moon was great,Zak is very good. But there are so many better.

  • Ironic how the son of Ringo is one of the more critically acclaimed of the Beatles' children...

  • not impressed .

  • @nastymonsters2 WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

  • @ThreeDaysSasuke cant you read not impressed not even close to how it should be played there are hundred of videos on here of ppl doing the fill properly ...its not hard to play...

  • @nastymonsters2 then lets see you play it.

  • @ThreeDaysSasuke ive played drums since i was 15 am in my 40s mate so yes ive played it many times is easy ..a ten year old can learn it in a day..its a piece of piss..

  • @nastymonsters2 well fine. I'll leave you with your own opinion.

  • @nastymonsters2

You're in your mid 40s but are obviously as mature as a 10 year old.

  • @waitingroom05 lol stfu cunt

  • @nastymonsters2

Doing the fill "properly"?? Please, go back to bed. It's attitudes like your's that rob the soul and essence of what music really is. Music is not intended to be copied note for note, in some robotic regurgitated fashion. If it sounds good to the listener, then it is good.

  • hes awesome=) i dont like to compare peoplebto their parents, but hes seriousky almost exactly like ringo.

  • Son of Ringo (Father)

    Skill from Moon (Godfather)

  • @Cozmopoetika i think your on 2 something there!!!!

  • Can you imagine "Beatles 2"? Zak is an excellent drummer, Dhani it's a clon of his father, and James y Julian have great voices

  • @Cozmopoetika All the beatles sons look a lot like their dads. James is a blond Paul and as George once said of Dhani "He looks more like George Harrison than I do!" Does anyone know what Jason Starkey is doing?

  • Comment removed

  • Do they know each other? the beatles' sons.

  • among all the beatles' sons, zak has got something powerful

  • watch?v=46CNp89_52Y

  • Zak trained by Moon and his dad. I think Zak is probably the only one out there who could come close to imitating Moon.... and an excellent drummer in his own right.

  • Zak trained by Moon and his dad. I think Zak is probably the only one out there who could come close to imitating Moon.

  • Met the new boss same as the old boss

  • olha o baterista que Oasis perdeu!!

  • thatd be cool, Zak is quite amasing ya think!

  • what would it be called the Beedles

  • Zak is AWESOME! Moonie would indeed be proud to have him filling his seat. He's the closest thing to Keith the boys have had since......Keith. Way better than Kenney Jones, Simon Phillips, or anybody who's filled the seat since 1978. Pete loves him, and rightly so. Incredibly talented as a pure rock drummer. Much more so than his Dad ever was. Zak is the real deal.

  • @jimdad5883 well it makes sense he's so good at it. sure, he was thought by keith

  • @jimdad5883 Zak more talent than Ringo? Hah. Listen to the Beatles' Songs "Rain", "She Said She Said", "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "A Day In The Life" and say that again.

No offense, I think Zak is a great drummer and stuff, but he just can't reach his father's niveau. He was a revolution.

  • @jimdad5883 Much prefer Phillips myself. Zak's drum sound is a bit slack and effette. He's a good drummer for sure, but not up there with the greats. Zak was having drum lessons at 313 studios in London during the late 80s when I was there also, so I knew him a little and have nothing bad to say about him, but the 89 gigs brought back the power on Moon more, whilst still being uniquely SP, and if I listen to post Moon The Who, it's the 89 tour and Pete's solo stuff with Phillips I enjoy most.

  • @jimdad5883 I don't think you can knock Ringo like that... he may not be your style but he is one of the most influential drummers ever. Many drummers emulate his simplicity. Zak is a good drummer, and the reason he is such a perfect fit for the band is because Keith taught him the secret. Ringo never wanted his son to play drums, so Keith taught him.

  • @jimdad5883 Agreed until the second last sentence: Zakk'd be the first to say that he's a very good rock drummer, but his dad invented something - he did not. There's a gazillion drummers who are trying to nail his straight-4/4-meets-shuffle-but-not-quite, and only a selected few can get the feel right.

  • @PeteTheWindmill I always pair up the great drummers of perfect rhythm as: Charlie Watts, Ringo Starr, and Phil Rudd. Rudd modeled himself after the first two, and you can time a watch to all three!

  • @eradicatedentity701 damn straight! amen.

  • Lol, sweat. 8)

  • shit.. all the beatles children are talented.. they should really form a tribute band.. that would be awesome..

  • Yeah, Moonie would be happy Zak's filling his seat!

  • Singer should stop singing ;)

    Great drumming!

  • great! we've got zak starkey & jason bonham. Sons of the world's two popular drummers. Zak's is excellent, more a rock drummer than Ringo.

I agree, the beatles children shd continue their fathers' legacy. But I dont see Sean Lennon has that much talent

  • Awesome

  • Zak's play like a keith moon! but face like a Ringo ☆

  • @dreck93 i know but i said that cuz ringo sang too and its like the "Beatles 2"

  • actually anyone can he does the same beat for eveysong

  • I don't get it, this is about Zak Starkey not about his dad Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey). So why aren't more people commenting on Zak on this thread? Zak is an excellent drummer and that is all I am going to say here.

  • he got blisters on his fingers ! :)

  • Looks just his fucking dad. It's almost uncanny.

  • The guy has excellent technique, great wrists.

  • zak looks like ringo so much ! :)

  • Ringo was underrated and very good yet looks like Zak is really more dynamic, exactly what Keith Moon was all about. No wonder the Who asked Zak, you don t get that chair just cos yr name is Starr....

  • @lela04 No, but you might get it for being Keith Moon's Student...

  • Keith actually gave zak some lessons when he was young as he and ringo were friends. Looks like it paid off

  • Zak Starkey is a brilliant drummer like his dad Ringo as is Jason Bonham like his late dad John. Julian Lennon also sounds so much like his dad when singing Saltwater, it's like the song John Lennon never got to release. Spine chilling! Credit to all these guys who are talented in their own right! Rock on!

  • 'Meet the new boss...same as the old boss'...rippin drummer, too cool...

  • Zack is better than his father. Ringo could never play with The Who at their primes. Lack of punch.

    A lot better.

  • @caravaggio31 ringo may not be the best drummer today but he was at his time, its like compairing a scientist today to past scientists... learning from other people's right and mistakes and between them ringo's.. ringo had one of the first drum solo's ever, the beatles helped improving the rock that became later on our rock of these days more than any rock and roll band in my opinion...

  • Ringo had a style that contributed to The Beatles being The Beatles; I love his stuff. He's a dickhead ofc (re. the autograph debcale and his constant utterance of 'peace and love'). Zack is very good but different to his dad and it's silly to compare. Thanks for the clip :)

  • Son of a Star - Aprentice of the Moon.

  • @CentraCross Touché

  • SILA GENTE DICE QUE ZAC ES UN EXCELENTE BATERISTA ENTONCES KEITH MOON QUE FUE...UN DIOS????

  • @TheANIMALJ7 ahahahah es verdad xD

  • jesus christ he's better than his own dad. well, the beatles never played anything that fast, you know?

  • Soooo much better that his dad

  • They should get chris squire and omar hakim to join the who

  • They should make a band:::

Julian Lennon: rhythm guitar and vocals

Dhani Harrison: lead guitar and vocals

    James McCartney: bass and vocals

    Zak Starkey: drums and vocals

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx I would love to hear that band. That would be amazing!

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx I wonder if they have ever considered that?

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx I totally agree! The critics would slaughter them but I would freaking buy it!

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx that's what i've been sayin for about a year now

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx zak is not a vocalist

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx I like Sean better

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx Great lineup, but would rather see Julian on keyboards. He's a great keyboardist.

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx I know their all so musicaly gifted. Kinda funny how they took interest in the same instrument as their fathers.

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx sean not jullian

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx that would be a great fundraiser

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx that would be awesome!!!!

  • I totaly agree!

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx And call the band "Here Come The Sons"

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx The Fab Sons

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx I'd say Sean on rhythm and have Julian do keyboards. They could write together too! My sister just said they should call themselves "The Beatles II".

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx actually sean lennon should be rhythm guitar

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx Julian, Dhani, Zak & James. the world can only imagine what awesomeness this would create.

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx Zak is a great drummer but does he even sing? I have never heard him singing, ever.

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx - That would be absolutely awesome - and even it would be just for a jubilee! If they wait the next generation could also participate, like Tatia Starkey - Bass and hot background dancing.. etc. :)

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx They could call it the "Here Come the Sons" tour

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx Hell Ya!!!! their fathers would be proud!

  • I wish they put there children on lk ET Tonight or Ellen. I would love to see an interview with all of them together, see if the sound lk there fathers

  • hes pretty lucky: Being the drummer of his idols

  • Ringo must be proud!

  • Zak is a hell of a drum, shames me he didnt tour with oasis on the dig out your soul tour. Ringo is a pretty good drummer him self as well, people say he isnt as good as Zak, that may be so but who knows, at the time the beatles were big, drums really weren't the big thing in music, so they were always kept basic. Anyways Starkey's are fkin drum legends.

  • @blakeguitar94 not really true cuz moon was still around doing the amazing tommy which is the same time frame of the beatles and ringo when it comes to in the pocket as a drummer on beates is better than his son even though his son beats him in fills

  • @blakeguitar94 Zak has the technical stuff down, unlike his father. However, Ringo was a left handed drummer playing on a right handed persons kit. I can guarantee you that Zak can't do half of the awkward but great fills that Ringo did. So, to quote you: Who knows?

  • Whoa........talk about pumpin' them pagan skins! Much as I love daddy Starr, his offspring absolutely kicks the shite outta him when it comes to skill. Moonie taught this boy well.

  • when your dad is ringo and your mentor is keith moon, your gonna awesome. zak made oasis sound so much better the time he was in the band.

  • The drums sound great!

  • Ringo basically invented the groove on the hi hat with the way he played the song rain we had never heard anything like that really before that. He gets the credit for it and to have that as credit is pretty huge if you listen to what groove it was. So befre you throw stones you should study a drummer and his contributions to the music he plays and to the drum community. What groove was it that you gave all us huh?

  • Zak es mucho mejor que Ringo!!!

  • thanks mo!

  • Have to say it, he's a better drummer than pops, sorry but there it is

  • Eh, this is good, but I wouldn't call it incredible. Thanks for posting, though.

  • Wow!! Drumming must be in the family!!

  • nooooooooo ma... el hijo baterista de rockstarr

  • i think he may even be better than his poppi

  • Haha epic :D

  • Keith Moon would be so proud of Zak

  • Ringo didnt teach Zac anything, it was all Moon. Who also gave him one of his Kits.

  • ringo wasnt a good drummer. zak however was at a different level technically. yes ringo was the drummer for the greatest band of all time. but even the rest of beatles admited that ringo was an average drummer at best

  • did he play at the superbowl?

  • @myheadissmall91 yeah he played at the super bowl

  • Is that Ringo's old set?

  • can u say................... TIGHT!!!!!!!!!

  • As Ringo once said, "That lesson I gave him really paid off."

  • I'm a big Moon fan. Nobody can play like Keith but Zak is great. Love him and his dad.

  • @juicedupnsloppy Keith was the drums teacher of Zak.....

  • @juicedupnsloppy

Go back and watch again. Keith is overrated.

  • @juicedupnsloppy Zak had a great teacher. Keith was his Godfather and taught him to play. Ringo never wanted him to go into the music business.

  • lars ulrich from metallica is a bad drummer, the worse in my opinion, but ringo is quite good and zac even better!

  • Look the beatles would not sound right with some crazy drummer

    thats why Ringo is there

have ever heard Good Morning, Good Morning that is great drumming

  • Who cares if Ringo is a great drummer or not, he is more enjoyable to watch than a lot more talented drummers, ffs listen to the drumming on 2moro never knows! Dont think he is crap.

  • guys, you need to realize that without ringo, zak wouldn't even be here. Even if Ringo isn't the best drummer, i think he's the most inspirational drummer to me. His simple and complicated beats have inspired so many drummers around the world

  • i like him more than ringo. he was dewfinately oasis's best drummer

  • In the words of jeremy clarkson. The Who now play with Zak Starkey, who, unlike his father, is a drummer.' Couldn't have put it better myself. He makes moon look pretty limited in my opinion. People with bizzarely crucify me if I criticise crazy Keith, but he shouldn't be known for his drumming talent, rather for his personality!

  • Alan White is much much better than Zak Starkey. Oasis should have tried to keep Whitey!

  • :'D

  • He is awesome :) So obvious he's Ringo's son :)

  • Ringo Starr was aweful. It's not because he was limited by the band he was in, he was just plain bad. Simple as that!

  • I kinda disagree, Ringo wasn't a great drummer, but I've seen worse.

  • I wasn't saying that he's the worst drummer ever, just that you don't see many worse drummers in successful or at all well known bands. Give me more than 5 drummers who are genuinely worse than Ringo Starr and I'll take my comment back!

  • The girl out of the White Stripes, Chas out of Chas and Dave, Karen Carpenter, Georgie Dawes...that's all I can think of.

If you see early footage of Ringo live, he was a tight drummer, but did play a bit like a clapping seal. His chemistry to the Beatles cannot be overlooked. They wouldn't have been a better band with a better drummer.

  • Well yeah, I understand that, I'm just saying, he didn't ruin the Beatles, so all I'm saying, is he was good enough.

  • bizarrely- zak seems to have a very similar playing style to keith.

    weird...

    but

    awesome.

  • He was taught by him. It's not too bizarre! He does what Moon does but is better and more creative.

  • I love Zak Starkey, he's awesome.

  • nice tripplests

  • Anyone who says Ringo Starr is a bad drummer is talking total bollox and knows nothing about music or the art of rhythm.

  • Ringo was the best!

  • hes really not that great

  • I'll second that. If you are a drummer and consider Ringo to be a good drummer in the grand scheme of things, then you are not a drummer!

  • Ringo was rated by Rolling Stone as the 17th best drummer on their list of the top 100 rock drummers. He cared more about crafting the song than showing off. His ability to get in the pocket is unrivaled. Only perhaps Charlie Watts had better meter. Some of the "top drummers" have no feel for creating a groove. That's where John Bonham was a master as well.

  • Rolling Stone is garbage, it is written by monkeys.

They also said Amy Winehouse: Back to Black was the 19th best album of the decade.

Along with 3 Kanye West albums, and a 50 Cent album.

And they also have "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list" without Joe fuckin' Satriani.

  • @qw1419xtj, Watts, Bonham, Moon- All far superior drummers than ringo. Im not talking bad about ringo (he awesome, check out his youtube channel) but still- there a lot of really incredible drummers out there. I think zak may have even outdone his father.

  • @superlou1s Don't forget Peart! As well as his incredible rhythm he also has an amazing songwriting ability.

  • Understatement. Ringo could never play anything remotely resembling this solo!!! Watts was as ordinary as Ringo though. You can't Bracket Moon and Watts in th same group as John Bonham, that's plain silly.

  • Well it's just plain silly to leave moon out of the greatest drummers- He was a natural. He never practiced, and his style was different, unique. Unique music styles are what separate music from famous bands. And by the way, Watts is known for being a very talented drummer.

  • Ringo is a VERY under-rated drummer! He has very quick hands and good chops! He just never gets any credit, because when you think of the Beatles, you don't think of Ringo's drumming. But this is just my opinion.....

  • You are no Beatles fan if that is your point of view! There music totally changed rock and has influenced every song played on the radio for the last 50 years. So if you think they were bad musicians you got shit for brains.

  • They haven't influence anywhere near as many songs or artists as that. That's just exaggerative talk. Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton were what are calle dtalented musicians and they have influenced rock to a degree that the Beatles never will.

  • You are telling this to someone who has listen to music for 45 years. Whose 3 favorite musicians are Beatles, Hendrix and Clapton. So I will tell you flat out you are totally wrong. If it had not been for the Beatles we would still be listening to Rock around the Clock type of rythms etc. Back in the 60s even Clapton would line up at the record store to hear the newest Beatle revelation (album) when they were released. You have no idea how influential the Beatles are- you have no idea!
