  • I'm more interested in the science that goes behind that potato that recorded it /: )

  • Well it succeded in buffing the floor...

  • Hello 240p, we meet again. Thumbs down, way down.

  • @SHOCKWAVE2980 very funny comment. this would have been a very interesting video if you could watch it.

  • The whole point of wanting to fly is so I do not have to peddle my damned bike...

  • @Reaper9789 Are you jealous you don't get top comment?

  • Its probably a beta or vhs tape.

  • why am i looking at lego.

  • Comment removed

  • thats a very nice potato you recorded this with

  • It's a giant exercise bike OMG

  • Why bother building a prototype when anyone who passed high school physics can figure out on paper why this wouldn't come remotely close to working?

People saying "first steps" "learn from it" "have to start somewhere" etc would be correct if it was simply a matter of engineering, but this is a failure at the theoretical level...

  • i disliked it because i can

  • @xr8dpixel I disliked it because I must.

  • If I had a dollar for every pixel in this video, I would have $1

  • @SHOCKWAVE2980 .. funniest comment I've ever read in my life.. nice one.

  • @brawnbear Thanks :)

  • @SHOCKWAVE2980 However if you had a brain cell for every pixel in the aformentioned video you would have left an original comment.

  • @japago100 Stop trolling you douche. You need your tampon, it's obviously your time of month again.

  • @SHOCKWAVE2980 Can I have a million for every pixel?

  • @TheZohaun Not for this video.

  • @SHOCKWAVE2980 I'd still probably only have 1$ either way :/

  • @SHOCKWAVE2980 Are you retarded? If it was only one pixel it would be one solid color. Take your douche baggery elsewhere.

  • @Pwnzistor It's a joke. You know, for people who actually have a sense of humor. I know it would be one solid color, if it was only a pixel. Douche baggery? Oldest joke of 2010. It's now 2012, move on.

  • It was filmed with a TURD, not a toaster.

  • Comment removed

  • But will it blend?

  • @2001E46325i I bet you like turtles.

  • What's amazing about this video isn't the human powered helicopter, but the fact that it was recorded from a television on earth, with a camera located on a satellite orbiting mars. Just goes to show how far technology has come.

  • 240p we meet again!

  • "This video was taken at the 1994 Human Powered Flight Symposium in Seattle, WA. using a potato"

  • which pixel is the helicopter?

  • "WHOA FUCK CHAIN CAME OFF"

  • but what if you get tired and can't pedal anymore? AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! CRASH!!!

But with surprisingly few flames... Unless you're one of the ponycart gimps from saints row

the third (Play the game and you'll get the reference)

  • Cute idea..........

  • nice slide show

  • i bet its sponsorred by redbull. Redbull gives you wings, Yeah Youbetcha, If u get tired u die - lool

  • wheres the helicopter? looks like some giant lawnmover and it doesnt fly either -.-

  • they can build a helicopter but cant buy a decent camera..

  • @rutz08 This was in 1994.............. Do you really think they had HD Cameras?

  • @BabyBlenderfied they didnt have hd cameras, they had something better, it was called film...makes movies with *gasp* NO PIXELS and near INFINITE RESOLUTION!!!!!!!!!! The fault in this video is with whomever converted it

  • @kleeklor I know they didn't. I said, They didn't have HD Cameras back in the day. I don't see why you replied to my comment when i was saying they didn't have HD Cameras.

  • @BabyBlenderfied oops, sorry dude, clicked on the wrong reply link :/

  • @kleeklor Hahaha! It's all good. I suspected something was up. :P No hard feelings, though. Shit happens.

  • you have spend a lot of money, a lot of time and 100ml more brain to create something, there are few things which are very intresting for science, just keep it on developing, one day you will get the required result, or something else will be created from this idea which can be very useful for the mankind and for the future.

  • *filmed with graphite pencil radio*

    and that's not even possible

  • If I had a dollar for every pixel in this video.... I would have 240 dollars. Because it's a 240p video....

  • ROFLCOPTER !!

  • friggen potatoe videos

  • crap quality

  • Next time please do not use any video cameras from Big Lots or Dollar store!

  • I would hope that they would've attempted their first flight, prior to putting themselves "out there" at a Human Powered Flight Symposium.

  • Be sure to let us know when it actually works. This should have been labeled a nonworking prototype.

  • Looks like they put a lot of time and effort into building that ..machine. It's a pity that nobody ran the numbers first to see if it had any chance of flying.

"If at first you don't succeed, (work out where you went wrong, then) try, try again."

  • looks to me like a failed human powered hovercraft... helichopters need to fly without surface effect,

  • looks like it's been recorded with a calculator.

  • Which of the four pixels is them flying? Did that happen I don't know what the fuck I'm looking at.

  • Did it fly? All I saw was grey & white pixels.

  • what did they record this with? a brick?

  • that was a wonderful test flight there...yeah right

  • Sorry, but humans can't produce enough power to provide enough force to life themselves (in air). Not even top athletes.

  • ok next time lets see flight i just wasted 20 seconds of my life ill never see again borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiinggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • @themaximusone You might find that you time wasn't wasted because clearly there are lessons to be learned from this.

  • fuck me and lithuiuim battery with a governmentshcools too dudududuu

  • I wasted too many minutes of my time trying to figure this video out...

  • DUD !

  • Their budget ran on this excuse of a copter.

    Couldn't afford a decent camera.

  • ???????

  • maybe they should have stepped up the gear ratio a bit and got a stronger person...

  • what an exspensive looking dildo

  • @MrLordy1985 mind the spelling

  • 240p we meet again

  • Does it blend?

  • *No potatoes were harmed in the making of this video*

  • rotors too close to the ground causing suction holding itself down.

  • was this it a ermmm 0.00001 mega pixel camera

  • @Cripwalker2006 Do you even know what a megapixel is?

  • @Cripwalker2006 more like a potato

  • stupid

  • It's not a helicopter until it flies. Until then it is human-power kinetic sculpture. This is physically impossible... even if the person was as strong as ten men. It takes many, many horsepower to lift a person.

  • @OregonDARRYL False. Granted, it only lifted a few inches, but it is indeed possible. Google Human powered helicopter and click the link that takes you to newscientist

  • @bigtoyota479 This is not a helicopter... at best it is a "ground effect" machine.... and I certainly did not see it lift at all.... did you? Tell me where, please....

  • Hovercraft =/= Helicopter

  • . . . and, the audio was taken by a man in a black suit with a derby hat. If found, please return to 1994.

  • dont want to sound pretentious, but should not an helicopter fly to be considered an helicopter instead of a fan.

  • what brand toaster was this recorded with?

  • @recommendme Good one. Even though back when this was recorded you could only get 240p which was th best of the best then. No hard feelings, just think about it next time.

  • @Biraghi128 just a joke bro

  • @recommendme was recorded in 94 before your time. Its amazing how technology evolves and yet we become less intelegent

  • @steveywoner20 haha, listen.. it was a joke.. sorry you dont have modern humor.. and btw i was born before 94.. infidel

  • @recommendme "modern humor" if ur calling that modern humor youve got problems. Especially if you think making terrorist references with out a dead terrorist puppet in your hands is funny.

  • this was recorded with a roast beef sandwich.

  • Did you record this with a potato?

  • they invented a human powered helicopter yet they flim their videos witha peice of toast

  • Comment removed

  • longer pedal stroke actions would provide more leverage combined witha rowing type action similar to a rowing exercise machine so you used youre entire body strength for power strokes. Maybe a pully system would work better than a pedal action. maybe a tractor belt drive system.

  • There's no need to be so cruel and closed-minded

  • was this recorded witha human powered camera as well?

  • If i had a dollar for every pixel in this video... I would have one dollar.

  • @FlamingCatTurd LOLOLOL !!!!!!

  • @FlamingCatTurd if i had a dollar for every time i've seen that comment... i would be a millionaire. ;)

  • @FlamingCatTurd more like 85 cents

  • @FlamingCatTurd bro you probably wouldnt even have a dollar

  • @FlamingCatTurd if "I' had a dollar for every pixel in this film i would b rich, in africa XD

  • i might be mistaken here but helicopters usually fly

  • but does it blend?

  • Jesus was this video taken with a waffle maker?

  • @regdapimp06 Recorded with a blow dryer. Next time I hope they use a Potato.

  • as soon as pedal powered or human aircraft get succesfully made we will be laughing. very little research goes into this kind of stuff as the world is orientated towards petrol vehicles which limits research. IF the big name companies were to get involved it would only be a matter of time before it happens. with the right gearing pedal powered helicopters is possible

  • @210482fmj

A human powered aircraft flew across the English Channel decades ago. The problem with helicopters is; They drop instead of glide if you stop peddling from a calf cramp or some other physical issue.

  • @lughcious if you were to launch from a high cliff think about the autorotation on the rotors. maybe electric pedla assist is the way forward with magnet generators. there are many possible ways of achieving flight and look at the desings leonardo da vinci had come up with and many have never been tested. I personally feel that some kind of human powered flight has still not been unlocked but is there we just haven't developed it yet.

  • MythBusters GO

  • this is flight for retards

  • if i was the manager/boss of the person that was riding this then i would fire the person riding it because he keeps stopping. theres an audience of 764, 173 people watching! They want to see something!!

  • if i got one dollar for every pixel, i would have 1 dollar...

  • my printer takes better video

  • if i had a penny for every pixel in this video, id have a penny

  • The rotors look similar to an idea I had, but stacked on top each other, with an engine driving it. Remove the hubs, and have the blades driven around a ring maybe 10 feet in diameter, linked together like a chain. Have spring pressure to control the angle of the blades.

  • wtf was this filmed with, a microwave?

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOL :')

  • Looks like a human powered floor cleaner / polisher.

  • nobody said it was impossible?

  • Human powered, and Paul Moller with his flying car, has yet to fly it without safety chord? Heard he got over 200 mil in investments so far. Think we will have much better results on the moon, less gravity. Just startup costs getting there.

  • @newage4energy don't you need an atmosphere?

  • @WaPaDo Yes, but one planets moon about 120 miles in diameter, its said that from a running jump you can stay airborn indefinately. Did I expand anyones horizons?

  • @newage4energy You said the moon. Now you're bring up "one planets moon". Which happens to be incredibly small. Also, there's a difference between flying and floating. Is there not? Most importantly your not providing a reason for people to fly around the moon. Are we just going there so we can enjoy the sensation? While running the risk of floating off into the abyss of space? What is the point Great Expander of Horizons?

  • @WaPaDo Yeah, likely. There is nothing that cannot be done on Earth more cheaply. Although Orbital Hotels will come first. Besides, THE MOON HAS NO ATMOSPHERE, while AIRCRAFT NEED ATMOSPHERE. which means IT WON'T WORK ON THE MOON.

  • i think you have some guts man to post such a video and also without sound.

  • i've never had a top comment :(

  • I like the human powered moving van in the background.

  • I'm sure he really needs a helmet.

    :- |

  • thats one way to burn fat without going anywhere.

    thumbs up i u agree

  • Nice way to decapitate the entire crowd. =w=

  • take a joke faggets

  • why do all models seem to be based on the da vinci III and yuri I?

  • The very next year the same team invented audio tracks for video cameras.

  • @Deshevelled

    lol!

  • @Deshevelled :)

  • Youtube, please get rid of these poor quality videos....why bother posting something that looks like a bigfoot footage?

  • @slave2school I disagree... Something is better than nothing, and if they got rid of all the poor quality videos there would only be about 1/10th the content there is now!!! LOL

  • @bliglum And what was left would still take several lifetimes to watch, I don't see a down-side.

  • I guess they spent all their money on the alleged aircraft vs. a decent camera.

  • I don't get all the hate here. Yes they failed, but it was their time and their money. At least they were doing something innovative and not watching youtube videos.

I guess they could have uploaded something with better quality... and sound. But still!

  • @Aslapacrosstheface Yeah. If people want to complain about people pissing away money they should do so about government programs that waste huge amounts of taxpayer's money. This is experimental science and is invaluable even if it seems stupid.

  • There are people who can't afford proper medical care, but there are goofball kooks who spend thousands to build absolute junk like this. Something is wrong.

  • What a waste of time and effort 2 spinning things on the ground isn't a helicopter maybe a human powered blower at the most

  • Thank you for sharing the video. Just like concept homes, cars & other innovations that we could never use, it gives us a visual of something that could be possible.

So many inventors do not live to see their prototypes take off but if they did not share like you have shared, people like us would not be inspired enough to pick up where you left off & move onward to complete something more substantial.

So with all of the bad comments, they FAIL to see the value behind it. we are privileged

  • @DoshUnScripted, Thank you Dosh for your compassionate and intelligent observations of the ramifications of these type of Symposiums. And the word "Symposium" I believe is the key reason why there are so many negative comments, either the commenters have never been to a symposium and or don't know what the word symposium means. Because if they had gone to one they would know that ((( ALL SUCCESSES BEGIN WITH FAILURES )))

  • lolwat, some dumb students did this for a laugh 16 years ago, who cares

  • that is absolutley pathetic!! sorry but, c'mon!

  • F A I L.

  • Was there anyone in the construction team who thought this was a rediculous waste of time.Maybe he needed the money.I'm sure he would have been hiding in the back room when it was put on "display",and didn't tell his friends about his involvement in the crime against intelligence.

  • just like everything in oregan, fail

  • if the audio is accurate, the engines are very quiet.

  • Red Bull gives you wings, not rotors, dammit.

  • human powered hovercraft, maybe... only in ground effect.

  • chuck noris could make it fly

  • FUCK SCIENCE

  • hahaha

  • We need more power Captain..... I'm givin' all she got, she ain't gots no more!!

  • @willmc150 No dude, we need more Captain! or rather... we need more brain power Captain!

  • The problem is they are not thinking big enough. Maybe they should add more rotors?

  • wow they spin, now show it flying.....

  • Hey get that kid! Let's let him try it!

  • NO way that thing would ever work.

  • well, at least it's a try......better than the keyboard 'coaches'.....

  • 1,000 ft in the air... oops, the chain comes off.

  • @jnsreptiles lol,

  • why is the quality shit?

  • Now I know where my tax dollars went. You would think with that kind of money they would have better video. What a waste of time!

  • Isn't anything technically human powered?

  • @Eifler121 No.

  • wow... that is the worst video quality i have ever seen...
