  • Paul Martin may have been a weak PM but he was given a minority and he was a real economist he new how to keep the countries finances in order he was fiscally conservative more American then Chertien but still Paul Martin was less American then Ignatieff and Harper. He shouldn`t have signed the security partnership but Harper is doing even worse this time. I`m a centrist I would be fine with a true liberal or conservative party in power BUT THESE ARE REALLY THE REFORM NEO CONS NOT CONSERVATIVE

  • Nice presentation

  • i work at Canadian Tire =P Hardware Department

  • Comment removed

  • @b4getu - It is located by the door, maybe it is the same piece of inuit art Jean Trudeau used to defend himself with in 1995 when intruders entered 24 sussex.

  • I miss the old Canada.

  • @TheTurbinator Whats the old Canada? What do you miss, we still have a decent economy compared to the rest of the world, 2% less GST and other taxes too. Are there specific services you miss or what?

  • Paul Martin - great finance minister, terrible party leader and prime minister. Easily the worst elected PM of the last half-century.

  • @ghoris Yep cuz Harper sets the bar really high. / sarcasm... Someone wiser than myself told me something good. "Canadians don't love their Pm's, they merely tolerate them."

  • only Rick Mercer can get our Prime Minister to troll a Canadian Tire commercial...too darn funny

  • haha " odd spot for a Inuit sculpture, I wonder if it is covering a spot" I looked for this clip just for that part lol.

  • paul martin is da bomb!

  • I hope the day never comes when this kinda skit can't be done, with the PM walking through a hardware store with a guy like Rick Mercer uneventfully.

  • One of the most intelligent and smart finance ministers. Led canada to an era of steady surplus, which turned into a 56 billion deficit.

  • Paul Martin was an excellent Finance Minister and would have been a great Prime Minister but he wasn't in office long enough. I truly is a shame.

  • Paul Martin was the best prime minister we've had. Too bad he's gone.

    Iggy is a disaster.

  • @guystoners if Michael Ignatieff is a disaster (i must be so blind...he looks okay to me) then what does that say about Mr. Harper?

  • @studentjohn36 What does that say about Mr. Harper?....that we have a PM willing to stand up for Canada!

This Iffy? guy is too American for my tastes.

    Your thoughts?

  • @mikefastener Liberal party might have a chance if Justin Trudeau leads the party.

  • @Splinterfan I truly want Justin Trudeau to lead the liberal party--it would be a great thing for Canada!

(Because it would ensure that Mr. Harper would continue to be Prime Minister for decades!!!!)

  • SEATBELT!!!

  • only in Canada will a media personality goes to the PM house does an interview and ends up fixing up his house

  • haha, premie minister is walking through a canadian tire and no one notices him XD

  • oh my God the spot in their carpet... haha oh Rick.

  • people think canadian tire is owned by the government in the US ?

    LOL

  • A lot of people don't even know it was Paul Martin that made Canada's banking system so strong. We Americans got screwed with Banks that run our government.

So whats the deal with Canadian Tire? Is it owned by the Canadian Government like your beer stores?

  • @41point2 Nope, Canadian Tire is almost like the hardware store version of Tim Hortons. It's not owned by the Canadian gov't, but there's a sense of pride just because it's Canadian. :)

  • aww... I remember when we had a Prime Minister that was human. How much longer do we have to stand behind PM 2.0 the Robo-Harper?

  • @whiskyguyD

Even if he wasn't the best, at least he had a sense of humor :P

  • @doolie9 I love Martin... well love maybe is a bit strong. When he came down to Welland Ontario for a big Civic center opening we had, he over heard me mocking him (Pretending to grab his belly and saying "Who's a big prime minister" in babytalk) He actually just smiled and laughed it off. He was like Canada's Uncle. I can't stand Harper though... so cold, so sterile...even when he makes jokes it just feels so wrong :S

  • that s one thing I do love about living in Canada....you cant imagine Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert doing things like this with Obama or Bush or Clinton. Say what you want about our last few PMs but they were great sports about coming onto shows like this and poking fun at themselves

  • LOL AHAHAHAH Funny video! Got to Love Canadian Tire, particularly, the Christmas ornaments !! Yup-Yup!!!!

  • very amusing

  • Too bad they didn't come to the one I work at... Mind you, I live in an entirely different province...

  • when was he prime minister? i thought it was Harper after jean ( the awesome dude with the unique vioce)

  • @FRANKANATOR2000 ... Martin was voted the leader of the Liberals after Jean and then lost the election once it was called that same year due to some scandal or another. He was only PM for a short while. Look Paul Martin up on Wiki

  • @nightfalltwenish That's incorrect. He came into power in late 2003, and the Liberals had a minority government after the 2004 election. Martin resigned in 2006 after the Conservatives took control with a minority Parliament.

The scandal you are referring to is the Sponsorship Scandal, and is credited with the demise of the Liberal government.

  • @PoliticsStudent That scandal was blown out of proportion, those jobs weren't super high paying or anything, and it is common to take political opponents and offer them positions in the government such that they would not run against them. The interchange between working in the government and running for election is very common.

  • @yuri35435 I never spoke of the specifics of the scandal. I correctly credited it with contributing to the demise of the Liberal government. Accountability -- the response to the scandal -- was a key plank of the Conservative's 2006 election campaign, and the Accountability Act was one of the first bills passed (if not the first one) by the new Harper government.

  • @PoliticsStudent ...and indeed the whole accountability issue has come back to haunt Harper's Conservatives, at least to the minority of Canadians who bother to care about such issues.....

  • Oh he will have people with him, but no where near what other countries do for their leaders. I mean... Whats the worst attempt to do something to a Canadian leader? Someone threw a cream pie at Jean. Oh no! a cream pie!

Or if you look at when the PM travels, its in a town car. Not some long 20 ton rocket proof limo

  • You can't be serious and really think Paul Martin doesn't have his entourage with him.

    Anyway the clip was hilarious.

  • lmfao

  • That was.....hilarious.

  • Can't say I was a huge fan of Paul Martin but at least he didn't take long breaks to "focus on the Olympics" like some current prime minister's I know.....

  • This is one thing I love about Canada. The prime minister is walking down the isles of Canadian Tire shopping and is NOT surrounded by bodyguards and hordes of people. (Though I'm sure there were members of the RCMP nearby.)

Just imagine the American president trying to pick up a few things at Wallmart without a dozen secret service agents and a mob of people trying to get his autograph.

  • if you look behind them you can see the body guards.

  • whhooooppps! wrong Paul Martin lol

  • I miss Paul Martin.

  • Comment removed

  • sure he is

  • I liked both Cretien and Martin. Canadian Liberal Politics in general tend to produce better results then their... Conservative counterparts...

  • Paul Martin.. had some good ideas. Selling out Canada to the United States by signing the Security and Prosperity Partnership was NOT one of them..

  • @NAUresistance Maybe it wasn't his idea.

  • martin was a good economist... he wanted to invest in small businesses and the fuel plant... he got slapped hard cuz of mr chretien... i didnt like chretien but martin seemed more like a man who can do a good job

  • This guy is serious about "no defecits".

He doesn't renovate 24 Sussex and decides to do a quick fix, then he uses Canada tire money to pay for the merchandise.

  • This is classic. I think we should put this in a hall of fame archive. Rick Mercer is the man.

  • Omg, they are wearing seatbelts. I want my ticket money back!!!

  • What

  • to be honest i stay away from national politics. I dont even remember a competant PM since Cretin and that was only because he was tagged with Clinton at the time between the states and canada.

I was surprised that harper got re-elected this time? I know its been a year or 2 since he was re-elected, but in newfoundland many people dont like him at least the ones ive talked to

  • Nope, you're right, out here we hate Steve!

  • Chretien was not competent. AdScam....

  • At least he stood up to America!........Harper has learned Bush politics and offers Canada's resources on a h'or d'ourve platter to America, while he tries "schmoozing" and determining "what's in it" for Harper!

  • To be a politician means not having a conscience.

Even lawyers and others trained in law that gave politic's a try ended up going back into the court system. It's cleaner.

  • Paul Martin is a cock sucking piece of shit. Before running off to hide in the woods, he passed perverted laws to please his fellow think-alike-masters, and set the rules that would destroy Canada's rights to our own resources and give America control. Curse you to hell, Paul Martin.

Harper is no better, and I've never seen a PM that say's "Yes, sir" to the U.S. as fast as Harper. He's a little weasle and is doing his best to sell us on the NAFTA being in Canada's best interests. Curse you.

  • Why aren't you in office?

  • Regarding Paul Martin, what rules & laws are you referring to?

  • Why dont you run anyone can run in this country and you seem fitting to run since you think no one has done a good job

  • haha you would've NEVER seen Bush walk into a hardware store with a tv host without security.

    I love Canada!

  • of course he had security, u just cant c them on camera. i met a rcmp body guard who has guarded all the PM"s he said Paul martin couldnt even go to the store to get a caisse of beer alone.

  • Half the people in the store certainly wouldn't be happy to see him that's for sure.

  • @jleb310ce Well, considering that Hardware Stores sells saws, knives and other lethal power tools, and putting into account of Bush's popularity when he lift office, who can blame him?

  • canadian tire dont support their products.

They just give you a supplier 1-800-get-fucked # and tell you to get lost.

  • I am trying to find that Rip off commercial that Rick Mercer does for Canadian Tire with that theme "I'll start with you". Its hilarious. Is it on Youtube? The Original actor in the commercials is Ted Simonett. Can someone find it please?

  • woot CANADA!!!

that is hilarious and is 1 of the reasons i watch RMR, because rick makes it fun to watch

  • I find it ironic that Rick Mercer's all knowledgable when it comes to superplastic. A.) Because houses here in St. Johns really do need to be sealed up like that sometimes like all older houses, and B.) He went to school and was great friends with Andrew Younghusband who hosts Canada's worst Handyman.

Also, Canada is the bomb. Only here can a leader do that.

  • Our PM can walk into a hardware store because people here can't buy guns at a bank. Even if they could, if someone shot him, the hospital visit would be free, we're not worried XD.

  • @Percey1 Well, if you know where to look, it is easier to buy illegal weapons in Canada than legal. I just think Canadians are less violent by nature.

  • canada is awesome. Bush or Obama would never go on a good tv show unless it's CNN

  • Only Rick Mercer can do it.

  • No secret service or anything, no entourage, our PM can just walk into a hardware store, largely unnoticed, and leave without incident. lol only in canada

  • gotta love it :P

  • cuz Canada is bomb

  • cause canadians just dont give a fuck. ive talked with stephen harper infront of a hotel in toronto having a smoke for 5 minutes until someone later told me who he was.

  • HAHAHA nice

  • @anaphaxeon that's because 40% of us quit voting so we don't know what they look like lol!

  • @anaphaxeon

He has a few body guards around him, do not think we leave him unguarded.

  • @jeevanjot52

    he doesn't have any bodyguards

  • @superrockperson

he does, I ran into him at ducks in Montreal a long time ago and a several other PMs over the course of my life...they always have about 4-5 RCMP officers with them at all times.

  • @anaphaxeon actually your wrong I used to be friends with a guy whos dad was a cop and his dad now runs the body gaurding company that protects the pm. However I don't no the rules they use protecting him.

  • @viper10011 It's the RCMP that does security for the PM.

  • @mistahmick well the guy used to be rcmp.

  • @anaphaxeon You can see a few agents in the background.

  • @anaphaxeon I would have been like "Hey look!! It's Rick Mercer! Who's that guy he's with??"

  • @gluemanred Isn't that sad lol.

  • @anaphaxeon Because Canucks are awesome.

  • @anaphaxeon haha, the PM was travelling with an entire security entourage. you can see them in many scenes, even the motorcade.

  • LOLLOLOLO

  • i love paul martin

  • At CANADIAN TIRE when asked Martin picked the 'POWER' tools Typical politician

    Freudian slip?

  • is Paul Martin a Hero ??? he kept our banks on a leash.Martin balanced the budget.he recorded surpluses. He didn' t go along with the disasterous Economic policies of Bush and BLAIR.he may have saved Canada .

  • `Wait so we BOTH drown?

    - Yah me and you are gone

-.....Well there goes my logical succesor...`

    ROFLLLLLLLLLL

  • i work at canadien tire and we dont give a fuck about you fuckers we just want your damn moneyyy

  • Canadian tires Sucks ASS, i took my mini for an oil change n the machenic can't figure how to do it.....the Machenic did the oil change but can't change the oil filter... but i have to paid full price.... Don't go to Canadian tires in Calgary (shawnessy), they Fucking Suck...

  • That's why it's nicknamed Crappy Tire (In Ontario anyway)

  • "Don't spend it all in one place"

    xD

    hate Canadian tire money

  • they we're in gatineau so yes.

and 2. theres french people everywhere in canada.

  • manitoba, saskatchewan, alberta have a total of 2 million french people

    british columbia has 500 000 +

    new brunswick (no idea)

+1 for being stupid enough to generate hatred with ethnic slurs, i'm sure you're a great parent!

    /sarcasm

and then they call us racists...

  • I think ngfrost put it best but wow, way to be ignorant. :/

  • Well I wonder where they live, because I can tell you from living in western canada most of my life that walking down the street I'm way more likely to here someone speaking russian or some arabian dialect. Very rare that I hear French being spoken, and even then, half the time it's Canadian French.

Where'd you get your numbers from btw?

  • And that's understandable, even from where I'm living in Southern Ontario I don't meet a lot of French Canadians either (well, either than during tourist season anyway). But I think using the term "frogs" to describe a large minority of Canadian citizens gets a little personal and is extremely rude.

  • Nobody makes Chinese racist slurs in Vancouver that I'm aware of..

  • That was me btw, used brothers account by mistake.

  • Haven't you heard of the Voyageurs? I am pretty sure that they explored the west and ran their fur trade before Hudson's Bay did!

  • Yeah, clearly their settlements have grown into magnificent thriving metropolises.

  • I work at canadian tire and it's so god damn boring because no one goes there except old men.

  • What! You just hold on a gosh dang minute! lol

  • I am not an old man XO Lol. I hate the place but get dragged there

  • Hey I work at canadian tire and its not only old men.....there is a lot of hot guys that come to my work because I work at the sports and auto section so that's where all the young guys go lol

  • I'm extremely jealous.

then again where I live could probably be named the retirement capital of canada, so that explains a lot.

  • Victoria? XP

  • That was Brilliant!!!!!

  • I liked it when he said " I wonder if there is a spot under this thing." He lifted it up and there was. lol

  • lol, the Prime Minister of Canada just gets out and walks around Canadian Tire. If that were the president of the US, there would need to be a plan made 3 months in advance, and security up the ass. I guess that just shows that people wont try and assasinate the PMlol. GO CANADA!!!

  • I was just about to say something like that :P

  • well said! I LOVE BE CANADIAN :) I am 31 and have never owned a key to my house...the doors been unlocked all my life regardless of where I have lived in this beautiful country :)

  • I too am Canadian and I have been broken into three times!

  • try living in toronto...XD

  • I used to live in Mississauga for 8 years but I have to correct the never part :) I lived in Toronto at Queen and Bathurst for six months and had a key so I stand corrected.

  • Yea but there is hidden security all around him in plain clothes but that was before all the crap with the middle east happened. Now, Harper would have CSIS and RCMP swarming like rats

  • @Air0h3adsoftware

actually, i saw Harper at my brother's hockey game (his son was playing) and there was, i think one guy that may have been a body guard. That's all.

He's not as up-tight on security as one may think.

  • That is a very nice thought but think of D'arcy McGee and of course, the FLQ crisis.

  • I love Canada and our politicians and leaders....most are such good sports about everything..I may disagree with most of them on what they do...but they are all great sports when it comes to this...I don't think you would fine a leader of a country just strolling around in a hardware store with a comedic television host...it is the same with the " Sleep over with the Harpers, " Rick also did...lol

  • Nonsense Smokeg1972. I once saw a garden hose at CT that was made in Canada.

  • lol

  • sheesh we call it Canadian Tire ONLY because it is run only within CANADA, and was started in CANADA...

  • lol chiness tire I smile at that remark

  • ROFL ROFL chinese tire holy shit thats the funniest shit i have ever heard.

  • lol rick gives him canadian tire money and tells him not to spend it all in one place! hahaha

  • Martin looked uncomfortable. Probably the first time being in a crappy tire store.

  • lol, the Prime Minister of Canada just gets out and walks around Canadian Tire. If that were the president of the US, there would need to be a plan made 3 months in advance, and security up the ass. I guess that just shows that people wont try and assasinate the PMlol. GO CANADA!!!

  • haha thats so true

  • ya its cause most people who hate us think our Pm is named Tim Horton so nothing to fear for our politicians

  • Amen dude!

  • "that's an odd place for a statue. i bet it's covering up a spot." haha and it was!

  • So FUNNY

  • Rick Mercer would make a great P.M.!!

  • Hope he didn't forget his Canadian Tire Happyland Fun Bucks :)

  • LOL

Rick Mercer, Paul Martin and Canadian Tire!

Can't be more Canadian than that!

  • Ha ha... anyone know why he said "some commercials".

    yikes.

  • ROFL

  • you can't even hear this stuff.

  • I love Paul Martin

  • I wonder if that stuff is still up Harper?

  • Im asking myself if thats the house for the Prime Minister or the house for Paul Martin...

  • its 24 sussex. That's where the prime minister lives.

  • God Bless Canada and Canadian Tire

  • Canada is the true land of the free, id bet my left nut if bush went around without body gaurd's popin out his ass and snipers on every roof hed get a bullet threw his head, atleast in Canada our politicians can go out and not even worry because everyone hates the usa and not Canada = )

  • No.. Our polititians get hit with pies occasionally.. remember?

  • ahahaha i do remember that

  • nah dude, only our good presidents get shot..not the freakin retarded ones unfortunately...

  • i hear ya, even canada gets some retards in power.... gordon campbell (guys a douch)

  • Only in Canada can you do such things with the biggest politician in the country. We'll never see Jon Stewart do this with Bush or any of his successors.

  • ya b ut colbert talked to bush at the white house thingy

  • Gotta love Canadian politicians! Nothing better to do than go shopping.

While the Bank of Canada inflates our money supply into oblivion

  • Well hey, at least you can still visit your friendly and slightly ignorant and unaware neighbors to the south and shop there, because their dollar is being deflated even far more than yours! Thank you, Mr. Bush!

  • inflated** whoops.
