I'm pretty sure the Spurs are going to try to get him during the off season, Dice is retiring so that leaves a spot for another big.

When Richards was drafted he measured at 6'10 1/2 without shoes and 230lbs, last November (6 months after the draft) they took his height and weight, it turns out he grew to 7'0 without shoes and gained 17lbs of muscle (now 247). All NBA players have their height listed with their shoes on meaning he'll be listed at 7'1 and 250+ pretty impressive

Spurs need this guy soon! With the exception of Duncan, Spurs have no post game. Splitter has potential, but he doesn't know what he's doing. If Richards and Splitter reach their potential soon, Duncan, Richards, and Spllitter will be a great post lineup.

He needs lots of time on the court both in the summer and D-league before he even steps foot on the Spurs court. Look what happened to Splitter. MVP last season from one of the most respected and competitive leagues in Europe and literally saw no time on the court while wearing a Spurs uni till the end of the season. He was healthy enough to play early on but Pop has a way of not playing young talent. Look what happened to Hill also as a rookie.

also want to add that I really like this Richards. I was hoping they would pick him as the draft was going on last summer and they did. The Spurs have invested two shoulder surgeries on him and hangs around the team and the facilities working out with the Spurs staff and he's not signed yet. Now that the season is over for the Spurs they 'll probably sign him and get his development underway. Like to see he and Splitter straight away playing together next season.

The Spurs did it again! The future looks bright. He's going to mature into something special once he's had enough practice with the D-Leaguers. Front court for 2010-2011 playoffs: Tim Duncan, Tiago Splitter, Dejaun Blair, McDyess ,Richard Ryans, Matt Bonner. I can't wait.

By the way he's in San Antonio right now and has been here since the draft recovering from surgery that the Spurs paid for. He's been working out lately now that he's healed and expects to play for the Toros and Spurs.

He went to play somewhere else because he was offered a contract in Europe. I think it's a good idea. The guy is still 19 and can develop better as a player if he went to play there than go to waste. Besides the Spurs have Duncan, Splitter, McDyess, Blair, and Bonner so if he was signed, he would've wasted time because he wouldn't get any minutes at all.

After Duncan leaves, the Spurs still have a bright future in Richards, Anderson, Hill, Splitter, and Blair. Maybe Neal, too? ;D

n the "Ask Pop a question" on the Spurs website last month I emailed Coach Pop a question in regards to Ryan Richards from England and asked him if he's taken a look at Ryan Richards from the UK and asked him if he would be a possibility for a Spurs pick in the NBA draft. My question was not picked and he never emailed me back but when they picked him at 49 I wonder if Pop really read my email from a month ago.Oh well it turned out the way I wanted anyway. He' already said if he gets drafted he doesn't want to go back to Europe. At worst he said he wants to be in a D-League team then work his way on to an NBA roster spot. At 19 that's confidence. If he develops like Parker did when he was 19 and continues with his skills and fundamentals that he's already showing he could be a windfall for the Spurs. Fundamentals hmm. Sounds like someone we already know. If he works hard and willing to learn with the Spurs organization his future is bright.

Spurs like Muswell said would be an ideal team for him

He would learn so much from Duncan

and what i like about Richards is that he is very versatile for such a big kid

and he has the advantage of being a lefty so this will make him tricky to defend against

So i have no doubt that he will be drafted, but i hope the Spurs get him, good luck Ryan will be good to see ya in the Nba :) x

Legitimate size, good athleticism and moves fluidly. Nice stroke too! Hope dude gets drafted by a team like the Spurs - they've got a good D-league outfit, he could develop really well given he's only 19. Joel Freeland was in a similar situation with arguably a touch less skill, so I reckon Richards will get drafted. P.S. Great work Sam!

Well I heard he is a good defensive player I honstley belevie he can get PT with the spurs due to 1 issue being blair. Bless his heart but he has trouble sometimes guarding 7 footers and when Tiago and Duncan are on the bench McDyess can hold down the fort for a whiole but the other big ussualy takes advangte of blair espically Bonner. BOnner is proably gone and i would love to see this guy getting at least 10 min of pt during the season. He is really confident thath he can make it.

@yosamulee Hey buddy, I'm stoked too :) He's been put in a situation where he could develop really well, down the road - it makes perfect sense for the Spurs given they want to get younger and more athletic. I'm not sure as to his defense but that will come along. He seems to be a decent shot blocker already, so he brings some skills and can stretch the defense a little too, with his shot.
