by the end of the game i had the plasma cutter( the pistol thing) and the pulse rifle (fully upgraded) - i did it on difficult and you need to sell the other weapons to buy ammo for just a few guns.

Whoever is playing this game is ridiculously bad. Why in the world would you use the secondary function on the pulse rifle on one alien? You use that when you're being overwhelmed by many aliens.

There aren't any. Your health is the green (yellow/red) bar on the back of your suit and ammo is displayed as a hologram on the specific weapons.

Yeah, the game absolutely wins on immersion and realism. The action is never interrupted. There are no cut-scenes are changes of p.o.v.

When a boss appears the animation goes smoothly from Isaac just standing idly to him reeling back in shock. Even very short events have their own animation, e.g. Isaac shielding his eyes from a blast when he clears a blockade.
