As an American, I sure agree with you in hopes that the track layout is preserved. I can relate; I liked Silverstone better without the stupid chicane at Abbey (the corner was fine without it!).
Best american track IMO, on par with Spa in Europe. If only F1 would run it, though perhaps they'll be a bit too quick for FIA safety requirements, lol.
I love Elkhart Lake, and it's right up there with Infineon and Road Atlanta as my favorite American tracks, but I hardly think it compares with Europe's top tracks. Just my opinion.
@PeterMayer How do you have any idea where I've been? I've been fortunate enough to travel to most of the large North American tracks, including Elkhart Lake, as well as few in Europe. I just believe our courses here in the US compare. What do we have that stacks up to Sarthe, Spa, or Nordschleife?

Damn, that's such a great circuit; nice flowing corners, the high speed straights and the carousell (tho not much run off areas out there!). Brave men in those beautiful Cart cars of the 90's. Too bad those days are over.
I was at the race that day, at that time, it was announced that the crowd that day (in excess of 65,000 people) was the second largest crowd in Wisconsin sporting history. Paul Tracy won, Nigel finished either second or third. I remember Danny starting puffing smoke of the formation lap.
What kind of jackass park his car right onto the racing line when he knew there was no way he could make it to the pits ?
Cool video though, Road America is an awesome track, and it looks even more impressive with those trees so close to the road, just a single armco away from the track .. It took some balls to drive here at full speed, especially with those cars which had a tendancy to take off when launched into a spin ..
I totally agree with you Mjj237, Barnhart does NOT know how to manage a race. 20 lap yellows for a car stopped on the track plus penalizing drivers for "blocking" on road courses when in reality they are just taking defensive lines through the corners. But in a league run by Tony George the Grim Reaper himself, what can you expect....and for the dude that made the comment above you, 1 Sullivan was not on the racing line when he stopped, 2 he definately couldn't have made it to the pits.
chevy.... fuck yes

Then again, if it happened today, Barnhart and friends would throw a 20-lap yellow to get him out of there.
