But the study was done in relation to ALL serious couples from the range of 18 to seniors. Generally most people get into a serious relationship from the age of about 25 onwards. The fact that you're 22 years old, and not likely to date a 17 year old is completely irrelevant. Your age range is just in a minor segment of ALL the age ranges. And let's face it- how many 22 year olds start a serious relationship for life at that age. I'm know some people do, but they are in a minority overall.

I remember reading studies in University that show the ideal optimal age for a Woman to have a healthy child is between the ages of 16-18. Not entirely ideal for this day and age, but biologically speaking of course.

Also the older women try to use their age to gain leverage from arguments etc. Trust me I'm 26 and just broke up with a 31 yr old. Age affects the whole dynamic of the relationship, if the woman is older than the man she is at some point likely to feel like a mother to him in some way, or end up feeling like the older more dominant one and that doesn't do it for most women and can feel emasculating to the guy. If the woman is younger the man has the age dominance and that is easier for some women to accept. If the woman is smarter she will still be able to hold her own but is less likely to see him as a little boy.

I have seen studies that show the younger a woman is, but over 18, the less likely their kids are to have serious medical problems.
That is why, in terms of evolution, men tend to go for the younger women.

I remember reading studies in University that show the ideal optimal age for a Woman to have a healthy child is between the ages of 16-18. Not entirely ideal for this day and age, but biologically speaking of course.
There's also the fact that Men are able to have children at a much later age than Women are. Hence most societies have adapted to this and probably the reason why on average Men have been older than Women in most "family" units.

There's another interesting point. Given that some men can sometimes have a tendency to go running after a younger women after their wife gets past a certain age may also skew the figures for married couples of the same age. In a way, the report may actually show that men can be a bit shallow once they get past a certain age. But as always some women- like Kasparian get defensive and emotional if they hear something they could 'interpret 'as 'sexist' by making assumptions.

I don't know the validity of the study, but if you read the article it's the journalist that embellishes it with a 'happier marriage'. All the study did was say that those two criteria exist more in longer lasting marriages. She's assuming a British University would twist facts in a scientific study emotionally for subjective reasons. Also- marriage 'structures' are DIFFERENT in the UK? Eh! How exactly?

As they age past 35 women lose their interest in sex more than men do. This is the reason for mid-life crisis in men. Notice how it happens around the time the wives hit their menopause? A younger wife means the husband will be around 55 to 60 when she goes through menopause. By that time his sexual desires have calmed down some too.

It's because a man is afraid of his gf becoming old and unattractive before he does or at a more rapid rate. Also the older women try to use their age to gain leverage from arguments etc. Trust me I'm 26 and just broke up with a 31 yr old. I was like she looks fantastic now but in 5 yrs she might age horribly and might not even be able to have kids! Sorry just being honest. Women about 2-3yrs younger seems to work the best as I see it. Emotionally, maturity, lifestyle wise it's usually good

Age affects the whole dynamic of the relationship, if the woman is older than the man she is at some point likely to feel like a mother to him in some way, or end up feeling like the older more dominant one and that doesn't do it for most women and can feel emasculating to the guy. If the woman is younger the man has the age dominance and that is easier for some women to accept. If the woman is smarter she will still be able to hold her own but is less likely to see him as a little boy.

I have known one fact for years, and constantly been unquestioned for around 10 years for me. That fact is that girls are attracted to older men, and on top of that men that are like their fathers.
I have seen it a few times with people I know, My sister married a guy like our father, and divorced him for the same crap that my mom divorced my dad over. and a friend dumped her younger boyfriend and them around two months later married a guy 20-30 years her senior.

Sure, I'm just saying that it's kind of annoying when people use this kind of thing as an excuse to say that they are just not going to believe the study's results. The study is certainly valid with respect to the population being sampled from, at the very least. And in research on human populations you typically don't get external validity from one single study. Rather, it's done through meta-analyses of many studies, with samples taken from different populations in the different studies.

Yeah, but the UK is going to be pretty representative of a typical developed Western nation. If you think it should be done in other countries as well, then fine, but this is no reason to just cavalierly dismiss the results. Incidentally, I know of a number of studies showing that in cultures ranging from tribal to developed men generally tend to be older than their spouses by at least several years, converging with these results and suggesting this is a biological and/or cultural universal.

We all need to remember that correlation does not imply causation. Just because marrying younger woman is CORRELATED with marriage success, it does not mean that marrying younger woman CAUSES marriage success. This is just a preliminary research study, and more studies would need to be done to find out why this correlation was found.

I think a youthful nature is more accurate than literally X-years younger. Obviously most people act somewhere around their age so that makes sense but none of these studies are 100% applicable to everyone. They're loose guidelines at best. I hope no one bases their lives around them.

Whilst it's true that women mature quicker than men mentally that's only evident during the teenage years(girls start maturing at around 11-12 whereas guys mature at around 13-14); eventually they even out. Though it would be stupid to assume that *all* guys mature slower than girls and vice versa.
