Communist wtf, I called it a average game because that's what it is.

At 1:06 the fielder you show 10 feet from the bat is not a silly point. Point would be on the other side of the batsman. You are showing a Short Leg fielder or possibly a straightish Silly Mid On.
This doesn't explain anything other than theres a lot of positions a fielder can stand during a game. Except for the wicket keeper they aren't officials positions that have to be occupied like in baseball. Silly video.

This is a pretty stupid video that deliberately makes it seem more complicated then it needs to be. There is really only about 10 fielding positions, but there not necessary fixed positions say for instance in basebal all first basemen will stand in pretty much the same place. In cricket you might be fielding at mid off and the captain says go back 20 metres, so it's then a deep mid off, or he might say move 10 metres to your left so its a wide mid off. It's not rocket science.

Go west indies....but also.. im a baseball fan.. cubs all the way .. i enjoy both sport..but,, sad 2 say in truth.. a cricket match can make u lose ur soul.. more than a baseball match.....My prediction.. in the next few yrs China n America go b big cricket nations.. once applied.. an taken seriously.. ..BUt not i said big.. not great.. becuz.. the west indies.. is where all the great players is lol..
Having rules explained to you in words is not at all helpful. You have to watch the game (with someone who knows the game well) in order to understand. At least, that's how my experience with sports goes.
Americans shouldn't play cricket? How come you didn't return here after your 1859 tour by George Pans All England XI? You realized how superior the Americans are :)
lol yeah it does not get that busy behind the keeper and cricket is a great sport. The fielding potions may look hard to remember but there easy to remember once you play it a bit
"It's a pop fly to left center, the second baseman catches the ball, the runner tags up and dashes for second, and he's tagged out by the short-stop for a double play that closes the inning."
An American watching Cricket runs into the same problem, but with bowlers and whatnot. I think they're both pretty fun to watch, but I like baseball just because I am more familiar with it.
what a yank understands cricket oh no i've just had a stroke kidney and heart failure and heart attack asthma attack and hernia and anurisim and brain haemmorage.
First of all, if your American heres ome history, cricket in its earliest form has been round since the 11th or 12th century it was taken to southern Africa, India, middle east and Australia and new zealand by the British during the rise of the British empire, and even today over 120 countries still play it infact it is more of a religion in some countries than a sport like India it is the sport of Billionares. but it is played every where you go wich is incredible

Cricket in its simplest form means the first team tries and score as many runs as possible while the other team tries and get all the players out as cheaply as it can. Then the other team comes to bat and try and chase the first teams total. If it reaches there without loosing all wickets then it wins, otehrwise if teh first team manages to get all the players out before the 2nd teams reaches their target, then the 1st team wins.
1) BOLD: if the bowler hits the any of the three wickets
2) iCATCH OUT: f the batsman hits the ball and any of the fielders inc bowler catchs it before the ball touches the ground
3)LBW (leg before wicket): Its when the ball hits the batsman's leg in such a way that if the leg (or any part of batsman's body) wasnt there the ball would have gone to hit the stumps.
It's not that complicated. I learned the rules when I was 6 or 7 and that's probably because I didn't grow up in India. Little kids in India learn the rules when they're toddlers. Just get a bat and ball and start hitting, Americans! You'll figure out the rules.
i have played both sports you need gloves in baseball, particularly in the infield. the ball is thrown harder, more frequently, and over shorter distances to infielders that to a bowler feilding at the non strickers end. a bowler may field the ball but they are often longhops from the out field or if the are over short distances (i.e cover) they are often there more to protect the over throw from a attempted direct hit attempt. you could not possibly field baseball without a glove.
Thanks for making such a generalization, you sound just as bad as we do, if you want to end misunderstandings those sorts of comments aren't going to help any. You don't think comments like that come off as a bit arrogant? I'm actually trying to understand the game, thank you very much.
i'd like to show my great body for you, i'd like to give you the greatest pleasure you've ever had..mmmmmmmm..Im getting hot just thinking about it come visit me at ... Play-Cam(.COM) ... my user-id there is Avery-huru chat soon on cam :) lulie
well i don't know if "making fun" is the right term here...he's definitely not being totally serious since he probably doesn't appreciate cricket as much as we do so.
its videos like this that keep America from playing cricket, they cant handle ALL that information lol, its not hard at all. just bowl the ball, hit the ball, run, throw and catch. easy as
how can u call it stupid u retards. u call us stupid jesus christ. in america u play baseball, fair enough i have nothing against baseball its a sport. but u call it the world series? WTF only u and japan play baseball. thats fucking stupid. If u consider u and japan as the world. u really are stupid. and theres more people in the world that play cricket than baseball so, yeh.
Plus the fieldings not that hard, think say if ur at square leg. it means ur square to the wicket on the offside. wow thats hard to work out. and omg deep square leg! its so complicated we cant work it out. DEEP. go DEEP. DURRR. my god americans are stupid.
Ah so true! Only real men catch rock-hard balls bare-handed! As for the 'positions' - it's hard put like this. I love cricket and I know hardly any of those terms. If I want someone to go somewhere (which believe it or not holds a tactical advantage, yankboy), I just point, then the skill takes over. Baseball players good at cricket? Nah, they'd suck, but cricketers would probably quickly adapt to baseball (primitive game). Finally, cricket is a more popular game worldwide.
Which is the purpose of the film,to show you the point.Alot of people cant see what is entertaining about the sports you play. But its all to do with the sporting culture you are brought up
The commentator is incorrect in saying that silly point is meant to catch a "100mph ball with your bare hands". Its usually used for spinners who bowl much slower or for bouncy tracks where the ball may go off the glove and into the air.
I'm an American who never understood baseball...I'm starting to understand cricket but it's hard because there are no games to watch...still I think it's better than baseball
the reason why it isn't popular in America is because of video's like this.It makes it so complicated. In Australia we just get a bat and a ball and something for wickets e.g bin and we are ready to play.
I am English and I know what u mean. Some people don't know how good cricket is as a street sport. My yonger brother once asked me which would you run away fastest from, a mad man with a baseball bat or a cricket bat? cricket bat!!!
Outstanding. The yank got almost all of it dead right. Except you can also have a man on the slog at cow corner, (or "mug's corner" if you went to a posh school), an unconventional position between wide long-on and deep midwicket designed to trap an untalented batsman with big shoulders. Great stuff.
Yeh were being to hard on the yanks I mean it only took me 10 minutes to get the hang of it when i was 4 so we should give the average adult 22.72 years.
yeah we need the glove because a baseball isnt as softr as a cricket ball(baseballs don't bounce) not to mention, baseballs are usually thrown at a higher trajectory rate than that of cricket because our basemen are split apart... usually when you field a ball in cricket, all you have to do is throw it back to the stumps.
Having played both sports, you don't have a clue. A cricket ball is HARD. A baseball is slightly softer. After you field a ball in cricket, there's 2 sets of stumps to throw it to. Or a wicketkeeper. Or another fielder. And google Shaun Tait or Brett Lee sometime.
i know how to play cricket, and im playing college level baseball now.i've caught baseballs barehanded and cricket balls and its my opinion that cricket balls are softer. i've seen plety of tait and brett lee too, fast bowlers, but thats why only the keepers are allowed to wear gloves, right? because they receive the ball at the highest trajectory rate. please tell me if im wrong
cricket balls are heavier and harder than baseballs... and trajecory means "angle" doesn't it? back in the oldern days of cricket they hardly wore gloves.... it is up to the keeper on whether or not they want to wear gloves... people fielding may receive a ball that's been hit at them faster than a high speed delivery.
TRAJECTORY is the angle at which a ball arrives and is not different between cricket and baseball. And, Cricket is not always played with a cricket ball. It can be played with anyball that bounces. Which ball did you play cricket with?
In my opinion curved seem of the baseball makes it look harder to catch. And maybe you just get used to catching with a glove... cricket ball is as hard as catching a baseball barehanded. But cricketeres just get used to it. Springtime is thoughest in cricket.
YES YES YES!!, i love this. Those damn americans with their crappy baseball, using gloves to catch a ball. Cricket is a reall sport. I LOVE YOU CRICKET. This video is very funny indeed.
Why is it necessary to talk smack about your national sports? Most sports leave me kind of cold. I'm American, and I love our "national pastime" (ok, that is the exception) but I love cricket too.

Yank's don't have the balls or the intellect to understand the intricacies of a game like cricket, so they call it stupid.
You guys like things simple, like your forefathers.
levler01 2 years ago
I think it's the terminology, going both ways.

I really am trying to understand this game, can someone help?
Musiciswhy 2 years ago
Cricket in its simplest form means the first team tries and score as many runs as possible while the other team tries and get all the players out as cheaply as it can. Then the other team comes to bat and try and chase the first teams total. If it reaches there without loosing all wickets then it wins, otehrwise if teh first team manages to get all the players out before the 2nd teams reaches their target, then the 1st team wins.
mnomanaziz 2 years ago
how playes get out.
1) BOLD: if the bowler hits the any of the three wickets
2) iCATCH OUT: f the batsman hits the ball and any of the fielders inc bowler catchs it before the ball touches the ground
3)LBW (leg before wicket): Its when the ball hits the batsman's leg in such a way that if the leg (or any part of batsman's body) wasnt there the ball would have gone to hit the stumps.
mnomanaziz 2 years ago
It's not that complicated. I learned the rules when I was 6 or 7 and that's probably because I didn't grow up in India. Little kids in India learn the rules when they're toddlers. Just get a bat and ball and start hitting, Americans! You'll figure out the rules.
mariamn1990 2 years ago
i have played both sports you need gloves in baseball, particularly in the infield. the ball is thrown harder, more frequently, and over shorter distances to infielders that to a bowler feilding at the non strickers end. a bowler may field the ball but they are often longhops from the out field or if the are over short distances (i.e cover) they are often there more to protect the over throw from a attempted direct hit attempt. you could not possibly field baseball without a glove.

its really easy once u know it abit, but i dont think americans would ever click on they just arrogant and obnoxious

Thanks for making such a generalization, you sound just as bad as we do, if you want to end misunderstandings those sorts of comments aren't going to help any. You don't think comments like that come off as a bit arrogant? I'm actually trying to understand the game, thank you very much.
Pwnzistor 3 years ago
I'm truly trying to learn the game, it looks like a lot of fun.
It's definately complicated and requires skill....which obviously sets it apart from soccer.
Being a huge Baseball fan, I can see how some of the same principles apply, even if the rules are completely different.
/Spent 3 weeks trying to figure this game out and I still can't...but trying!

Plus the fieldings not that hard, think say if ur at square leg. it means ur square to the wicket on the offside. wow thats hard to work out. and omg deep square leg! its so complicated we cant work it out. DEEP. go DEEP. DURRR. my god americans are stupid.

babby45 5 years ago
Finally, cricket is a more popular game worldwide.
jollywollydotcom 5 years ago 2
And we brits invented baseball, it's just that we call it rounders :)

qwerty10113 4 years ago
Which is the purpose of the film,to show you the point.Alot of people cant see what is entertaining about the sports you play. But its all to do with the sporting culture you are brought up
gavman1975 5 years ago
This is "silly" and it has no "point." I cannot see why this is so entertaining. I, as an *cough* American, do not like being called "Yank."
girbilwitch101 5 years ago
The commentator is incorrect in saying that silly point is meant to catch a "100mph ball with your bare hands". Its usually used for spinners who bowl much slower or for bouncy tracks where the ball may go off the glove and into the air.

I'm an American who never understood baseball...I'm starting to understand cricket but it's hard because there are no games to watch...still I think it's better than baseball
thefirstpurple 5 years ago
the reason why it isn't popular in America is because of video's like this.It makes it so complicated. In Australia we just get a bat and a ball and something for wickets e.g bin and we are ready to play.
SlurmsMackenzie 5 years ago 2
I am English and I know what u mean. Some people don't know how good cricket is as a street sport. My yonger brother once asked me which would you run away fastest from, a mad man with a baseball bat or a cricket bat? cricket bat!!!
ssssroryssss2 4 years ago
Outstanding. The yank got almost all of it dead right. Except you can also have a man on the slog at cow corner, (or "mug's corner" if you went to a posh school), an unconventional position between wide long-on and deep midwicket designed to trap an untalented batsman with big shoulders. Great stuff.

Cricket is better than baseball on so many levels. Americans will never understand the superiority of a test match.
quantumastronomer 5 years ago
Cricket is so much better than Baseball and requires so much more skill. whats hard about catching the ball with a glove. pfft.
metfan89 5 years ago 3
yeah we need the glove because a baseball isnt as softr as a cricket ball(baseballs don't bounce) not to mention, baseballs are usually thrown at a higher trajectory rate than that of cricket because our basemen are split apart... usually when you field a ball in cricket, all you have to do is throw it back to the stumps.
FLYINGSQUAD 4 years ago
Having played both sports, you don't have a clue. A cricket ball is HARD. A baseball is slightly softer. After you field a ball in cricket, there's 2 sets of stumps to throw it to. Or a wicketkeeper. Or another fielder. And google Shaun Tait or Brett Lee sometime.
adamtyndall 4 years ago 2
i know how to play cricket, and im playing college level baseball now.i've caught baseballs barehanded and cricket balls and its my opinion that cricket balls are softer. i've seen plety of tait and brett lee too, fast bowlers, but thats why only the keepers are allowed to wear gloves, right? because they receive the ball at the highest trajectory rate. please tell me if im wrong
FLYINGSQUAD 3 years ago
cricket balls are heavier and harder than baseballs... and trajecory means "angle" doesn't it? back in the oldern days of cricket they hardly wore gloves.... it is up to the keeper on whether or not they want to wear gloves... people fielding may receive a ball that's been hit at them faster than a high speed delivery.
iridiumdirge 3 years ago
TRAJECTORY is the angle at which a ball arrives and is not different between cricket and baseball. And, Cricket is not always played with a cricket ball. It can be played with anyball that bounces. Which ball did you play cricket with?
In my opinion curved seem of the baseball makes it look harder to catch. And maybe you just get used to catching with a glove... cricket ball is as hard as catching a baseball barehanded. But cricketeres just get used to it. Springtime is thoughest in cricket.
