  • Wait....YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR STRINGS?

So i´ve bought all my guitars for nothing???

  • Thanks so much for this vid - I've been inept at changing my strings all my life and I just changed them on both guitars with ease!

  • i've been playing for years and a mate told me to check this out which i thought was weird because i've been changing strings for years but i realise why because i always take all 6 strings off first. shit i wonder if i've been damaging my guitar all this time?

  • 1:25-130...critical. Play that part a few times.

  • How do i know what order to put the strings in ?

  • This is the best tutorial for how to change guitar strings compare to other videos i saw! very short and to the point! thank you :)

  • This video saved the relationship between me and my guitar. We can now make music again!

  • the best tutorial, I think. of all the ones i viewed, no one mentioned the slack needed to prevent slippage and the importance not to remove all of the strings prior to restringing. some string sets are packed in pairs, like the 3rd and the 6th, the 2nd and 5th. a good gauge for me. I wondered for the longest time, why they did that.

  • Nice a quick, very helpful

  • Ahh I'm so nervous! The memories I'm making with my guitar are just so precious.

  • Who drank all my kool-aid

  • The only problem I have with this method is that if you have short tuning posts on your guitar, there is not enough room to get the proper amount of windings. This is because the sandwiched string takes up too much room. So if you have mini grovers for instance, you simply won't have enough winds because you will run out of room on the post. That collings in the vid has long posts.

  • is it possible to do this all by hand

  • man i was tuning my when it broke it hit my hand and a HUGE bump

  • Allo! Check out my channel. new, exciting, blue, the birth of ... ehh, check it out, LOTS more to come!

Bob and I can help you change your strings too!

  • wow, you're fast =D

  • Guys i dont have a stingwinder. Is there other possible methods

  • do one string at a time man... steady!

  • @Paraspadez A lot of people do 2 at a time also.. I know guys that fix guitars that do it as well. Depends on the guitar really

  • This was my first time changing guitar strings and I learned it immediately! Thank you for posting this! Appreciated!

  • why all these teachers look like horny freaks who are fucking the guitar?

  • I was ready to throw my guitar I could not get the string back on it.

  • haha it looks like you do this... alot haha

  • I wanted to give up before I saw this video.

    This video helped alot. THANKS

  • Ahhh you're supposed to take it off one at a time D;

  • If I have the type of guitar where you stick the string in a hole, does that mean i have a shitty guitar?

  • @graceisahurricane

Not at all...your guitar just has a different design...if it takes nylon strings there would be no endpins, just a hole in the bridge where the string is looped and tied.

  • I just bought strings from the Podium like 10 minutes ago!! ahah

  • Thanks, this helped me out a lot for my first time changing strings. Thanks for being quick and to the point.

  • The sound in the background from 1.41-1.44 make me come

  • @1cindygunawan If you do not have a tool you can use a tea spoon. Just place the spoon end down (bottom of spoon) against the pin next to the one you want out and lightly twist up the spoon and out comes the pin. Just always keep the spoon touching a pin next to the one you wish to remove..works like a lever. I have used one for years and never damaged any guitar.

  • As usual, starts off great but they fail to show the plain/unwrapped strings. Nobody ever does the 3rd-1st strings the same as they do the 6-4th..... why not show those?

  • Comment removed

  • Using a .056 gauge (medium) low E string as an example, you can take it down pretty low...D, C, even A as long as it stays in tune and doesn't rattle around. I would not tune it up much past E unless you use a lighter gauge string and even then you don't want to put undo stress on the top by tuning the guitar above standard E A D G B E.

  • great video, straight to the point and well explained, thanks

  • Way too fast !!!!!!!!!!!

  • how do i know when strings need replacing?

  • @TheBigPeanutGuy after about 6 months when they don't sound really good anymore

  • is this guy drunk??????????????????????

  • @1cindygunawan The best method is to use a stringwinder with a notch...the notch is designed to gently pry the pin out. Stringwinders are very inexpensive and available at most music stores and the folks there can help you.

  • screwed up so many guitars until this video.

    thank you so much

  • dose this work the same with the thinner strings

  • dose work the same with the tinner strings

  • you most likely have strings for a nylon string/classical guitar...they don't have a metal ball on the end...if you have a flattop acoustic guitar then you should buy a set of light gauge phosphor bronze strings

  • I bought some strings, but they don't have the little ball at the end of it.

  • K i am really pissed off..i pit the pin and the string and it doesnt lock...

  • @BeatlesGuitarPlayer1

try again...watch how Marty does it...take your time, you'll get it

  • Was searching for a way to change my strings. I founds this and is very much to the point and the clearest one I've seen. Thanks so much. Now I'll be back to playing very soon!

  • HI , whats the name of the tool you use on the headstock to rewind faster the string ?

  • A tip: never, ever buy a guitar with Floyd Rose as your first. Replacing strings and tuning this thing is a maaaaajor pain :(

  • It would take longer, but I'd rather just unwind and remove the strings so there's not much damage done. No damage would be caused either way though XD

  • You're seriously a life saver! Thank you so much!

  • thanks man :) It's working!

  • Thank you. It help me!

  • I cant remove my pins

  • how does anyone give this a thumbs down? seriously... thanks for the vid, I had no clue on my washburn how they made the strings look so well done.. now I know

  • thx for the help!!

  • I've never done this before, do I need to buy a special tool to cut the stings?

  • @EmmaM1479

a smallish inexpensive wire cutter will do the trick - just be careful not to gouge the headstock

  • @podiummusic hey i didnt do that, but i used the wire cutter to pull off the pin to remove the strings...n the ball of one pin came off..how do i remove the pins w/o damaging it?

  • i released tension on all strings at once. is my guitar ruined? why does this matter exactly?

  • @tpstrat14

your guitar is not ruined....some folks like to keep tension on the neck to help stabilize the saddle or nut...if you do take all the strings off then it is a good time to clean the fingerboard

  • does that work for electric guitars with a 3 and 3 headstock like my les paul?

  • @ThePunisher288

    sure

  • thanks dude helped me change my strings

  • hey my sting is broken and i need to fix it ............can i get 1 string in the market

  • @aniket903 you can on ebay or such but dont.

change all strings together because just the 1 string can be diff. quality..diff tension etc

  • didnt include stretching the string.

  • wow you're fast

  • i should have watched this video before I restrung my guitar.

  • @TimmaFrank me too. 3 pack of daadrio strings. wasterd. >_>

  • helps alot

  • u r expert!!

  • so I have to have a tool to change it or can I use plyers or something.

  • Great video! Thank you!

  • Thx for being quick and to the fucking point. Most of these tutorials the dude ends up speaking for an hour and does not show anything.

  • @4bysmal i agree with you.

  • @4bysmal amen

  • oh my godddd. Thank youuu. I finally put strings on my guitar. :)

  • this is the best method ever :D

    cheeeeeeeeeeers.

  • god dang it i keep snapping my string and i fdont have that damn tool ughhhhhhhhhhh this pisses me off!!!!!!!!

  • I did it!!!!!Best close ups on YouTube!!! Thanks so much!!!!

  • Better video thanks

  • i love this vid, clean and simple show u how to get the job done right away, unlike the rest, too much talking

  • koaii na......

  • Thanks man you was help my;]

  • I have a problem. My guitar dont have that little buttons on the end (the thing that you quit, then put the string, and then put the buttonagain) it only have the string with a little ring at the end. I dont know how to remove the string.

  • 100000 viewer

  • thanks :)

  • thanks! this helped

  • Thanks for the guide , the clearest demonstration I've seen .....

    Cheers

  • my guitar string just broke 5 minutes ago!

  • @ladderqueen27 me too man, im so pissed

  • Thanks a bunch Marty! I just got done changing my strings in record time with the least amount of hassle!

  • Finally, a video that zooms in! So many other videos are either blurry, or the instructor's hands are blocking the important steps. Thank you so much!

  • This video really helped me! :) Other videos are really GAY and is hard to understand but not this one.

  • then how would you clean the fretboard?

  • I like to ROLL the strings around the capstan,

alleviating the sharp bend in the string.

I never cut off the excess, so when a string breaks, (usually at the bridge) I have enough slack to jury-splice the ball with a busker-knot.

You can also LOAD a string, by twisting it in the same direction as the winding...

    Figure? that one out....

    ~eff~

  • i have a strat copy will i screw up my guitar neck if i take all the strings off at once?

  • @littlealien123 since you have an electric no but on an acoustic never take of all ur strings

  • that was freaking fast

  • BUT! None of these demos demonstrate a logical way to fit the balls in the bridge. Use the pin to gently push the ball through the whole until the ball pops aside snugly against the bridge plate inside. This is why good pins have an angle on the end. If you you put the pin in and pull the ball up against the plate, as demonstrated, two things result. One : tuning may take some time to stabilize. Two : the string hole and plate wear and chip much more quickly.

  • i really like that hes not like the other dumb guys in the videos. you can take all the srtings out at once it really kills the tension in the neck of your guitar. none of the other guys mention it but it can really hurt the neck

  • it only does damage if you leave the strings off for an extended period of time like a few hours if theyre off for five minutes it doesnt make any difference

  • one of my strings broke last week and ive tried to change it using the spare string but it didnt work........im goign to go next week to find a guitar shop to fix it but do you think that my guitar will be very damaged by then?????

  • @jjain221 if its only one string no

  • i dont have a spinner thingy lol

do I need one? or can i just use my hands?

  • Very informative and simple video ^^

    Thank you

  • Really good and short. To the point and no faffing about. To those saying not enough care being taken, why would he need to take any care?? This is obviously over his 100th time changing strings, I think he is used to it

  • Well put it this way, I wouldn't let this guy near my guitar. Not enough care being taken. But informative if nothing else.

  • my guitar doesn't have a hole that goes inwards like that one.

  • Cool I was unsure of how much slack before you start winding the tuning peg.

  • hey i got a question is it normal that a string breaks when im tuning it for the first time and im doing it really fast in square moves because i gotted a new high e string and tuned it slowly and im sure i didnt tuned it in an octave higher

  • you cant go an octave on higher on a guitar bro, ur strings would break

  • i play 2 years so i think i can hear that if my strings are 1 octave higher

  • that ecxact same thing happened to me and so io watched like hundred of utube vids on how to change the high e before i did then i crapped it up and there are no guitar shops near where i live to go fix it and nobody on my family play guitar or know how to fix it and neither do my friends

  • kool..so, how do we know which peg winder(?) to get? are they all the same?

im really trying to string my guitar myself this time, i would usually take it to the guitar place ^_^

  • wind that shit yourself

  • finally someone explains how much slack with words us slow people get, its a good feeling

  • can someone tell me what the name of the thing is that he uses in the beginning to detune the strings? im trying to find one on musicians friend, but i dont know what they're called

  • Comment removed

  • peg winder.

i suggest the planet waves one. its also built with a wire cutter

  • haha yeah... nothings worse than tuning by hand... WHEN YOU HAVE 6 GUITARS TO TUNE lol... been there...

in same day i had 2 re skin 2 whole drum kits... how fun -.-

  • how do I change them, if I do not have those balls at the end of the string?

  • they all do... if urs dont... buy a new set -.-

  • then you are probably talking about a NYLON string guitar.

  • this really is the best video. thanks man this was REALLY helpful

  • Thank you!

  • This vid is really helpful except my bridge pin keeps popping out!!! How can I fix this?

  • ohmygod, that happens to me too!

  • "Enough slack to reach the opposing tuner..." That's a good tip!

  • @Joannawysiwyg It is. I've also heard you want enough slack to make a fist.

  • thanks!

  • so helpful!! thankss

  • Comment removed

  • nice... this is how i wanted to do on my martin

  • Thank you so much!

  • u saved my life thank you for this viid

  • thank you for this viid

  • you can remove the pegs with a key any key like your car key or house key

  • I'm not the video poster...or any sort of expert at all, but I use a needle nose pliers wrapped in an old t shirt (so the pegs don't get scratched).

  • How do you get the pegs out without using any SPECIAL tool? Any household items that can remove it?

  • Use a key or a knife

  • i use my cats nail clippers hahaha :) and it works pretty well

  • u saved my life :) what u should do with the bad string????

  • the Martin acoustic steel guitar strings I bought have pink fuzz on the end of some of them; can anyone tell me what that is, & am I supposed to take that pink fuzz off? I usually buy D'Addario.

  • what do you do with the old strings? just throw them out?

  • yes...unless you dont have lots of money: boil them in vinigar (no kidding) these vinigar boiled strings gives you an extra week + smell.

  • I toss my old strings into the recycling bin or save 'em up and twist them into sculptures.

  • lol thats freaken genius

  • can someone help me

my e string broke liks 6 months ago and i finally got new strings(im a guitar noob btw) yesterday but i cant get the pegs out i dont have the peg remover tool so i cant get it out without or what can someone please help what other ways are there for getting the peg out

  • use wire cutters or sumthin that will slip under there thats what i did

  • just take a piece of cloths u put it on the bride and u take a screw driver and u push it up making sure the cloth is under it so u dont scratch the finish

  • thank you for your reply,I have been doing my strings all at once on a taylor guitar that I have, and I took my guitar in to have the neck tested, and my neck was perfect, and Ive been changing them like this for 10 years.

  • where do you getstrings from ??? and how much???

  • Music store..

    I forgot how much though..

    Like $6-$10+ I think?

    Don't worry they're cheap and affordable :3

  • why is it bad to take off all your stings off at once when replacing them??

and is it possible to buy another pin because i kinda lost mine...

  • iam so sick and tired of people saying take all the strings off at once, are do one at a time, for God sake what is the truth?

  • one at a time because the neck needs some pressure at all times other wise the neck will be bent out of shape

  • Hey thanks! Im a banjo player, and i need to find a better way to change strings, and this realy helps alot. This way of stringing works for lot of instruments.

  • cool thanks

  • i got some new guitar string for my electric guitar, and the lowest 2 done fit into the little plastic part at the end of the fretboard. can anyone help?

  • Quick, correct and well done =)

  • this is cool

  • yeah it helped so fuckin good, i never knew that clasical guitars cant use iron strings...anyway thnks yo. lets play our guitars peeps!!!

  • Cool I baught a jazz 'fake book' in that store in '02.

    Shhhh!

  • can i ask if i buy a classical guitar am i be able to change the nylon string to a steel string?

  • no cuz you tie the strings and if you change e them the strings will break when you strum

  • Thanks man

  • very helpful

  • Thanks this was a great help!
