I am not sure what you mean by move around. Yes, you can move your body inside the suit; you can bend pretty much every joint, but the suit prevents you from, for example, lifting your arms over your head, or doing a split with your legs. And yes, you can move the suit around the sky; you can go left, right, and other maneuvers which make it possible to buzz clouds like we do in this video. You can fall slower or faster, but with arguable exceptions, you can't actually go up.
Would probably need to lift your arms over your head.. Like a skateboard bowl for example, down then using down force to go back up. Even pull a loop the loop. But if you can't move your arms above your head then it doesn't sound like they have the maneuverability to pull something like that off.
@FraggingBard It's not about maneuverability, it's about physics. You can make a wingsuit which allows more mobility, there are some out there already. A human being is just simply way too dense to be able to "flap his wings" and fly up like a bird does. We are basically glide-bombs with wings. If we move the wings a bit, we change which way the bomb is pointed, but we are still falling (gliding) very fast. Try treading water carrying 1000lb.. you will sink no matter how hard you tread.
@FraggingBard The difference is the size of the wings. If wingsuit wings were as large as glider wings, then maybe we could. However, we would not have the strength to hold out wings that large with our own muscles... so we'd need an artificial frame, and then it would no longer be a wingsuit. In short: wing loading (which equals weight divided by surface area).
Same with my tread water example: it might work if you had HUGE hands and muscles (more surface area).
@FraggingBard Wing loading is also the reason we move much MUCH faster than gliders (both downward and forward). Go make a paper airplane, if you design it right you can put a flap on the back that makes it climb after a dive. Now start taping paper clips to it. Once it gets heavy enough, it will still fly, but it will fly (from your hands to the floor) VERY fast, and no matter how you shape the wings, it won't ever go up (though it may go "less steep" momentarily).
@Oolliwan14 It's not really hard to move them around (up or down), but after 2 minutes of holding them out against the wind your shoulders can start to get a bit tired. Smart question to ask... most non-jumpers don't think of that!
What a feeling this must be...freedom...crazy freedom...sweet surrender...sweet scary surrender (: love when you twirl in the air...can you get 2 parachutes just in case? (:
you fly in your dreams don't you? - love watching these thanks for putting them out there...i always wanted a jetpack ... but this looks so beautiful...love it!
Nice Flying, Wingsuits are the bomb. I LOVE flying my Phantom....Your video shows what its like. No One would know otherwise. Indeed true human flight.
the problem with stuff like that is, that you need a lot of training to do this - you can't just do it once, you need to start skydiving, get your free fall licence and then make your way into wingsuits - it will take some time, money and courage
That would be me (the one who made the video). If you watch my mouth I am actually saying something to the guy filming. He yelled at me "go faster!" And I couldn't hear him, so I yelled "WHAT?" If you look closely you'll see my mouth move when I say that. Then he repeated himself and I heard him, and I took off and left him in the dust (he asked for it!).
Got this from skydivingmovies! copied it to my PS3 and watch it regularly! Looking fantastic! Contemplating the Phantom 2 when its time for WS.. if not some better option comes along!
Anywhere from 60 seconds to 5 minutes. Depends how high you jump from, what type body you have, what type suit, your skills, your strength and endurance.
An average flock from 13,500ft will last 90-120 seconds, compared to 60 seconds for RW jump and 45 for freefly.
I've looked all over for this song. You noted it was Massive Attack at the end, but I don't know if that's the group or the song. Can you help us find this?
Well, if it took me 10 months to do 200 skydives, the answer to your first question should be obvious. ;-) Jumps cost about $25 these days once you're licensed and have gear, so that's about $5k just for the jumps. Add another $5k (at least) for your training and gear.
My votes for the bravery and the skill of those guys, but in spite of the illusion that they are flying, they are still falling just a bit slower than a rock.
so its not possible to pull up for a second or 2??

Question from someone who's never even seen one of these in real life, just on Youtube vids and that Top Gear episode.
Is it possible to move around with them? So can you raise your arms at the elbow and tip knees skyward to swoop up? Like in a u shape.

Unpowered gliders are capable of doing it and they weigh more than a human, what's the difference?
Not trying to stir you up, curious lol. And not flapping, merely pointing the fins upwards momentarily.

You need 150 skydives before even thinking about this Xd
apediderik22 1 year ago
acctually only gliding parachite (or how's it spelled) licence.
I've read about it, and you can get it for 450€. Thats 25h of training.
After that you only need to get the suit and one time training for this suit.
Didn't check the price for that.
But yeah, courage is one thing you really need for this :)

The God of everything, almighty omnipotent all knowing self fulfilled not needing anything or anyone except himself.
