  • Not even close to any of Gavrilov's recordings.

  • looking at this photo is almost like Ashkenazy just dropped the batton, kicked the soloist off and totally owned the cadenza incase theirs wouldn't reach his standard!!! LOL

  • There is no comparison to Ashkenazy's performance of the rach 3. i hold this performance nearest to my heart and soul in my music collection

  • @repoman54r Leif Ove Andsnes is comparable, or 'gets near' if so to speak if you ask me ;). But still, yes: incredible.

  • Extraordinary playing, he achieves great power and grandeur for the slightly built individual he is.

  • The poetics of Rachmaninov, and the sound ... it's all here.

  • i have this recording on CD... my favourite CD :D

  • Vladimir Ashkenazy has incredible deep understanding of Rachmaninov. This is amazingly good.

  • Most people don't think so but i'm with u.

  • @sergej992 I heard Ashkenazy live many times and played under him in an orchestra when he was soloist in two incredibly brilliant concertos and when he conducted. I have enormous respect for this very humble friendly man.

  • I fully agree for this recording.
