If you live in a war-torn country where buildings blowing up or being bombed is a rather common occurrence, a decade old destruction of a building you have never heard of in a city you've have never seen is probably not a overly news worthy story.

@MANJUICEIFY hey asswipe, 10 years ago or not it is far from over. george bush is now a wanted war criminal, 9/11 was an inside job, and there is still a rogue general running around that can fire missiles at the pentagon and get away with it. you are a fucking moron if you want to brush it under the rug along with jfk.
@FearEquality I just gave you an organization, in Afghanistan, made up of Afghan women, that contradicts your own Western bullshit. The Taliban ARE NOT freedom fighters. They are a fundamentalist militia and a proxy of the Islamist right-wing in Pakistan that are trying to maintain strategic depth against another liberal, secular democracy, India, with regards to Kashmir.
If you don't know this, then you don't know anything about Afghanistan, or its people.
I somehow doubt the legitimacy of this poll. Word of mouth has had 10 years to work it's magic.
I've got a feeling that this culture isn't one that openly admits to ANYTHING some chirpy stranger asks of them.
It's a variation of the "No speaka da Inglis" defense.
Do you think they want some anointed by God tribal enforcer parsing their answer? "I swear, I didn't tell them anything! I wouldn't even admit to knowing who Bin Laden is...Allah praise his name..."
Where did they get the 92% number from? When I go to the icosgroup (dot) net site I read that 76% of those polled stated that they knew about 9/11 but when asked further 98% of them couldn't give details.
So how do you arrive at 92% of anything through those poll results...?
They asked the question wrong, they should have said "What was the greatest attack against the American infidels?" then they would've been like "Oh yeah, thats 9/11"
Absolutely absurd! Afghanis don't know why we're there....most Americans don't want us to be there, Al Qaeda has fled Afghanistan....so why are we there????????? Anyone?
Because leaving now would allow the taliban to take over and end up with years if not decades of total war ending in millions if not tens of millions of afghan deaths?
@MitchofSmeg the biggest question is so what? ultimately the multitude of terrorist groups that compose the taliban and al Qaeda are still functioning in saudi arabia, pakistan and somalia. we've destroyed a large part of their infrastructure and captured or killed many of their officers. staying their to fight people in the name of their peace makes absolutely no sense. we have nothing left to gain so why stay?
The country was stable under the taliban government(now government in exile) before the US lead attack happened, it is now unstable with a pro US government propped up and only holding with support of american/euro(mainly british) forces and has enough strength to fight but not win a war alone against the taliban. Technically the US has a responcibility to those people whos lives will end for causing the situation in the first place. If you dont care then your a sick fuck.
@MitchofSmeg the "government in exile" currently has the support of 85% of the people in afghanistan (reuters) and most of the warlords who propped up that government are now officials in the governement that is propped up by us. so excuse me if i don't believe that as soon as we leave the two are going to war with each other. the US government has no responsibility except to it's own people so none of your justifications are real reasons why we should stay.
@MitchofSmeg no the reason 9/11 happened is because a CIA trained tactician (Bin Laden) did not like that Saudi Arabia let the US use their land as staging ground for our troops during the Gulf War. that along with his disdain for the reformist movement there, their relationship with the west and europe, and some of our less than great moments in the middle east is what drove him to terrorism. so in short our activities in the middle east is why 9/11 happened. so why should we stay again?
@IGottabfree O-P-I-U-M & O-I-L. Taliban was put there by the USA. THEN the USA & Israel wanted to get 1) A Pipe line across Afghanistan so they had TALKS with them in Texas while Bush was Governor. 2) more drugs! Taliban halted Opium production; CIA & Mossad don't like that. They WANT more drugs to America etc. 3) EXCELLENT location! For setting up bases for future wars for Israel & USA. Be that against Russia in the future...or Iran...Pakistan, China, India; take your pick.
@killamenjarro Yeah I know. Our ally until...until maybe they break off ties with Israel or maybe until they don't do what they are told. Then they'll be a mortal enemy. "We've always been at war with Eastasia"
If you don't get the quote; not enough room to expound on it. Read 1984.
You want to see allies? Taliban wined & dined during talks with Gov & Corps in Texas; Sadaam and Rumsfeld as tight as couple of farts could be.
why is it surprising that people in non-industrial nation isolated from North american media would not know about 911? at the time either they were more worried about the Taliban or hiding up in the hills hoping to dispose them, or worried about the poppy crop, or finding statues of Buddha to blow up, why would they give a rats ass about whats going on in America especially since it was like 10 years ago, shit 35% of Americans think Saddam Hussein had something to do with 911...
I think TYT should start posting their sources of information in the description bar. So we (the viewers) can gauge our own views and opinions in correlation to that of TYT.
@rsamra I agree but the fact that TYT only comments on news made by other sources as they do not do their own research and/or journalism, I think including a citation should be mandatory. I come here for news, their opinions and satire but I would like the news references, to fully understand their views. Either way I think we are both in agreement. Essentially, I don't want to be forced to research TYT video topics, I want convenience.
Dear americans and westerners, im sorry to tell you that you have created alot of 9/11´s yourself, the problem is that you dont give a shit about people getting killed in other parts of this world, your own economic intrests is more important than human lifes.
So how do you expect other people to sympathize with you?
@dralezero Do a little digging and you'll learn that the street celebrations were encouraged and in some cases, instigated by the media... namely CNN. Or are you talking about the Israeli Mossad agents who were caught with a van full of explosives?
id like to hear the poll for americans and in differnt age range too, were getting to that point were we have to educated the young to what is 9/11, its been 10 years a 5yr old probally doesnt member, he's 15 now, but hopefully they know and are being taught in there history class
@TruthIsSin "And you wonder why people in other countries hate us?" It might seem like a petty point, but your comment illustrates part of the problem it suggests. Americans can have an annoying habit of behaving as if they are the only country on Earth. YouTube may have been founded in America, but in action it is global. When you make a comment you're addressing the whole world, but word it as though only fellow Americans are seeing and reading it. Ignorance isn't confined to Afghanistan.
@DaithiDublin I agree that many Americans feel the U.S. is the center of the world. But it's obvious that my comment implies that I am an American speaking to other Americans, I don't have to spell it out do I? I mean, this is a global forum, however, you and I are speaking English and not translating our comments into any other language. Does that mean that English speakers such as ourselves expect everyone here to understand English? Your point is well taken but you are speaking to the choir.
@TruthIsSin No error, man. And don't get me wrong, I'm not US bashing. I just wanted to point out something that strikes me when reading some comments from Americans. In May this year YouTube said that 35 hours of video are uploaded every minute, and that three quarters of the material comes from outside the US. So with that in mind, when I see derogatory comments (not yours!) from US users about foreigners I can't help but think: you're not helping your cause here.
@DaithiDublin It's obvious that many Americans (i.e. 'conservatives') want to tout the values of the 'American way', yet when practicing those values conflicts with their interests they find ways around it. That's been shown in the civil rights movements for so-called minorities in this country. This same attitude carries over into the way they look at the world and how our foreign policy has been shaped. Open and reason-based dialogue like what we do here is a step in curing this. Take care!

War on terror? Who finds fighting a non-physical entity logical? War on drugs? War on what? It's not an army or a dictator or a tyrant. You only set yourself up for failure.
Funny most American can't locate Afghanistan on a map. Afghan's don't know why we are there. Two ignorant popuations ripe for continious war, locked in a mutual death lock.
"Continuous warfare" (War on Terror) is the key to social control.
It keeps the public frightened & dependent.
It keeps "the wheels of industry turning without increasing the real wealth of the world. Goods must be produced, but they must not be distributed."
Better to destroy them in a ritual slaughter (Wars).
For a truly prosperous society, educated and secure, CANNOT be ruled by the few. Poverty, ignorance & fear are the three pillars of authoritarian control. Without war, they ALL disappear.
Generals don't want to leave Iraq because they get money from the military/defense contract companies/industry that are making a fortune off the American tax payer by us staying at "war".
When America pulled out of South Vietnam it only took one offensive for North Vietnam to knock down that U.S. backed government. If there is one thing Americans are terrible at it is learning from history!
how do you expect illiterate people with no news network and no media no history lessons to know about something that happened on the other side of the world?
You know, I've heard around that the actual poll didn't precisely ask about 9/11 or why we were there, but rather they were given a list of details as to what happened on 9/11 and immediately afterward. I think I recall that 80% of them either didn't know about what was going on, or refused to answer the poll at all, and about 10-12% of them said the details described were inaccurate or wrong altogether. I wish the media would elaborate on these polls instead of summarizing them out of context.
Americans and Canadians should've gotten out of Afghanistan when al-Qaeda stopped operating out of there. Why are we trying to solve this country's problems? There's plenty of other countries more in need of help than Afghanistan. I fully support our troops, but they should be hunting down al-Qaeda and/or helping out in places like Darfur.
How about you rebuild every village you burned, every house you blew up oooh, and don't forget to give a antidepressants to every women your "heroes" raped. Maybe then you could go and "help" other counties.
P.S. Reviving all innocent victims of your bombing and bored snipers would also be appreciated.
@MegaSuperUberMe Maybe I wasn't clear enough, but my suggestion is that Can-Am forces should be efficiently hunting al-Qaeda, or peacekeeping, NOT starting/continuing a war.
And besides, yes, a war is going on, and many people, including soldiers AND innocents, die in war. There is no good side or bad side, only a winning side and a losing side. That's how wars are done.
Why are American's always shocked that people from other countries don't know about 9/11?
Do you know all the terrorists attacks done in Britain by the IRA? In Sri Lanka by the Tamil Tigers? The rebels in Chechnya? The ETA in Spain?
No, so why do you expect foreigners to know about attacks in America?
I know it was important to Americans and the fear it generated ruled their lives for many years, but most people from other countries weren't really affected by it (except the ones you invaded).
@Lyleiscool You make a very good point. But at the same time, if a US-based terrorist group attacked Afghanistan, EVERYONE in America would know about it. Not taking one side or the other, but Afghan civilians should really know the facts.
Most Americans don't know about the US bombing and sanctions against Iraq since 1991 which killed over a million people (mostly children), US bombing in Sudan, US firing missiles into Pakistan etc.
I bet the people in this countries would consider it a terrorist attack when American bombs and missiles flew in and killed innocent people, but most US citizens don't know about these events because the news only reports when someone else does it to us.
@bjtkyo do you really thinkthat you would now what a militarized group from US would do outside the US I dont think you would, I dont think you do...little question to prove my point, what is the major fact that happened in 9/11 OUTSIDE the US?
@poja82 I'm Canadian, and if a Canadian-based group launched an attack of 9/11-like proportions on any other country, yeah. I think I would know about it. Especially if a war was started in Canada because of it.
@Lyleiscool we arnt shocked that people from other countries dont know about us being attacked.. we're shocked that the country that attacked us doesnt know we were attacked..
@Lyleiscool Well, you'd kind of think that the country we went to war with would have some idea as to why we were there, but then again, most of them have no resources in which to tell them, and the ones they do, probably say something similar to them, as Bush did to us when he said that we were attacked because the terrorists are "jealous of our freedoms" (When it was likely because of attacks the US made on Lebanon in the 80s).
@Lyleiscool I thought America is the center of the universe and now you're saying it isn't? Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Glen Beck . . . all the dip-shits that pollute our airwaves claim it is. Who is right?
@Lyleiscool I think it's surprising to us simply because that attack was the reason behind the Afghan war. And unfortunately, in the eyes of many Americans, our people have a hard time discerning between enemy and civilian and don't understand that the civilians had nothing to do with this.
@Lyleiscool Agreed. I feel like when people go all crazy about 9/11 they forget what so many other countries have gone through. American isn't the centre of the universe and their problems aren't everyone else's top priority.
@Lyleiscool Many Americans know about those terrorist attacks that happened in other countries, and 9/11 was one of the largest terrorist attacks ever. Nothing like that ever happened to anyone. I don't think you are informed well enough about how bad that day really was, most likely because you don't care, but yet you still make comments about it.
@Lyleiscool You make a good point but the story wasn't about people in Britain or Sri Lanka not knowing about 9/11. It was Afghans not knowing about 9/11. No one expects foreigners to know about the attacks in America much less anywhere else they are not directly affected by it. However, it would be reasonably implied that since it was the "basis" for invading Afghanistan, a few more people would know about it then less than 10 percent of the country. This is why it is a topic of interest.
@Lyleiscool Because at the time the Afghan government was protecting those who orchestrated that attacks. That's why it's surprising that they don't know why we're there.
@Lyleiscool Tamil Tigers are done and the sl gov found Britain gov was helping the LTTE Britain has send people to sri lanka to training LTTE pilots but sl cant do anything Britain if sl gov say anything abut it Britain is going to make something fake and send there army to sri lanka
@Lyleiscool the ira hasnt killed 2000 people in a single attack......you ram 2 commercial jets into a pair of skyscrapers and you expect a developed nation to not know about it? afghan men were shielded from from what al qaeda did. and of course cenk says "get over it" because he wasnt in new york. cenk you're a fucking joke. lets be serious here for a second. have any of you fought a ground war? or know what it takes to win a war? if not then stfu. because your opinion that is worthless
No offence mate, but other countries have suffered much longer with more fear then that of the USA of 9/11 etc, sure it was tragic but to say "the ira hasnt killed 2000 people in a single attack" is a fuckin joke considering they targeted brits all over europe and even in the US for decades.
Though i agree about the ground warfare thing, they should stfu if they aint been in war or know about it in detail (ie history of warfare)
@Lyleiscool im not shocked that people from other countries havent heard about 9/11... im fairly sure most Americans dont think that other countries all know about 9/11
@Lyleiscool If there was an foreign armed military in our country I think most people in America would know why. The examples your giving are completely irrelevant compared to the survey because there not in are country. The majority of people have little interest in what doesn't affect them.
@Lyleiscool 92% is a huge number. And yes Ive heard of the Tamil Tigers, the Irish Troubles, the Chechnyan Rebels, the London train bombings
the only one I didnt know was the ETA, but I know of a few more you didnt list
Yes I know Afganis dont have access to the same education and media that we do but its still a huge number. And since America carries the big stick, people pay more attention to it
@Lyleiscool True, nationalism plays a role in the sense of shock though. The U.S. culture has an intrinsic perception that we're the center of the world and every one must be aware of our daily plight. Ironically though people outside America generally know more about the real happenings since their media isn't automatically biased towards the U.S.
If the citizens in the U.S. were aware of real day to day terrorism globally they probably wouldn't have shit their pants so heavily after 9/11.
@Lyleiscool As an American, I can proudly say I was not affected by 9/11. Being a 10yo really doesn't allow most humans the emotional needs to understand that 3000 or so people instantly died. Growing up in this nation has been somewhat of a blur. From birth to y2K I lived, unknowingly, through the hells and heavens of our 41 & 42 presidents. and then we were all thrown into a world wide witch hunt. Compared to others in my own nation I feel like an outsider, because I just don't give a shit.
@Lyleiscool said:"Why are American's always shocked that people from other countries don't know about 9/11?"
I totally get your point. But to be honest with you, I come from a tiny country in Africa and I know what happened on 9/11 in the US! I could even tell you where I was at that moment. Whether you pay attention or not some events don't just pass by.
I bet if you asked people in Bolivia about the 2004 Tsunami they would know even if it didn't affect them directly!
92 percent don't know because they didnt do it. Our gov did it.

IGottabfree 1 year ago
@IGottabfree
Because leaving now would allow the taliban to take over and end up with years if not decades of total war ending in millions if not tens of millions of afghan deaths?
MitchofSmeg 1 year ago
@MitchofSmeg the biggest question is so what? ultimately the multitude of terrorist groups that compose the taliban and al Qaeda are still functioning in saudi arabia, pakistan and somalia. we've destroyed a large part of their infrastructure and captured or killed many of their officers. staying their to fight people in the name of their peace makes absolutely no sense. we have nothing left to gain so why stay?
icronianson 1 year ago
@icronianson
MitchofSmeg 1 year ago
@MitchofSmeg the "government in exile" currently has the support of 85% of the people in afghanistan (reuters) and most of the warlords who propped up that government are now officials in the governement that is propped up by us. so excuse me if i don't believe that as soon as we leave the two are going to war with each other. the US government has no responsibility except to it's own people so none of your justifications are real reasons why we should stay.
icronianson 1 year ago
@icronianson
That whole "we have nothing left to gain" is the reason why 9/11 happened in the first place.
MitchofSmeg 1 year ago
@MitchofSmeg no the reason 9/11 happened is because a CIA trained tactician (Bin Laden) did not like that Saudi Arabia let the US use their land as staging ground for our troops during the Gulf War. that along with his disdain for the reformist movement there, their relationship with the west and europe, and some of our less than great moments in the middle east is what drove him to terrorism. so in short our activities in the middle east is why 9/11 happened. so why should we stay again?
icronianson 1 year ago
@IGottabfree O-P-I-U-M & O-I-L. Taliban was put there by the USA. THEN the USA & Israel wanted to get 1) A Pipe line across Afghanistan so they had TALKS with them in Texas while Bush was Governor. 2) more drugs! Taliban halted Opium production; CIA & Mossad don't like that. They WANT more drugs to America etc. 3) EXCELLENT location! For setting up bases for future wars for Israel & USA. Be that against Russia in the future...or Iran...Pakistan, China, India; take your pick.

TruthIsSin 1 year ago
@TruthIsSin "And you wonder why people in other countries hate us?" It might seem like a petty point, but your comment illustrates part of the problem it suggests. Americans can have an annoying habit of behaving as if they are the only country on Earth. YouTube may have been founded in America, but in action it is global. When you make a comment you're addressing the whole world, but word it as though only fellow Americans are seeing and reading it. Ignorance isn't confined to Afghanistan.
DaithiDublin 1 year ago 21
@DaithiDublin I agree that many Americans feel the U.S. is the center of the world. But it's obvious that my comment implies that I am an American speaking to other Americans, I don't have to spell it out do I? I mean, this is a global forum, however, you and I are speaking English and not translating our comments into any other language. Does that mean that English speakers such as ourselves expect everyone here to understand English? Your point is well taken but you are speaking to the choir.
TruthIsSin 1 year ago
@DaithiDublin I meant to say "preaching to the choir", sorry for the error.
TruthIsSin 1 year ago
@TruthIsSin No error, man. And don't get me wrong, I'm not US bashing. I just wanted to point out something that strikes me when reading some comments from Americans. In May this year YouTube said that 35 hours of video are uploaded every minute, and that three quarters of the material comes from outside the US. So with that in mind, when I see derogatory comments (not yours!) from US users about foreigners I can't help but think: you're not helping your cause here.
DaithiDublin 1 year ago
@DaithiDublin It's obvious that many Americans (i.e. 'conservatives') want to tout the values of the 'American way', yet when practicing those values conflicts with their interests they find ways around it. That's been shown in the civil rights movements for so-called minorities in this country. This same attitude carries over into the way they look at the world and how our foreign policy has been shaped. Open and reason-based dialogue like what we do here is a step in curing this. Take care!

MegaSuperUberMe 1 year ago

I disagree.
Most Americans don't know about the US bombing and sanctions against Iraq since 1991 which killed over a million people (mostly children), US bombing in Sudan, US firing missiles into Pakistan etc.

From birth to y2K I lived, unknowingly, through the hells and heavens of our 41 & 42 presidents. and then we were all thrown into a world wide witch hunt.
