Rather than UFC they should start a league where they start out nose to nose like sumo so that way they can cut out all the preliminary dancing. I doubt Gracie could every win a fight on his feet.

What the hell, starting out nose to nose? What kind of real-life fight does that recreate?? I know of no fights where the people fall out, then stand up to each other nose-to-nose, and then start fighting! Not to mention, "distance is your best friend" against Brazilian jiutitsu, which is why they were both trying to keep each other away. If you start out nose-to-nose you'll have about ten seconds until he's choked you out.

Not to start an argument but Machida is doing a pretty good job of using his Karate. Im a grappler myself and my theeory is not the stand up styles are inherently flawed but that you simply don't actually practice fighting very ofte. Regardless of what type of grappling you do you likely spar almost every session whereas you may spend a great deal of time ounching air or a sand bag in some stand up styles.
It was a good fight. Not an easy fight for Wallid by any means. Wallid is a beast on the ground. Royce is a greater MMA fighter than BJJ. Royce asked many times for a rematch but was never granted one.

I think Royce was doing the best with what he has. He'll never have the athleticism of his other family members, which is why he focuses so hard on technique and defense. He actually wasn't doing that bad until Ismail sunk in that choke.
Ay it makes sense why Wallid won. Gracie jiu-jitsu if nobody remembers was mean't for advantage of the smaller guy. Plus Wallid is equal or almost equal to the expierence in Bjj (doing jiu-jitsu since he was young, just like Royce).

Estive com o Wallid em 2008, 10 anos após... Bem mais humilde e tranquilo q o garotão de 20 anos atras, porém, sempre com espaço para mais um pouco de humildade... Gdes parabéns, vitória merecida, mto técnica a luta, até p\ contradizer sua fama de grosso q mtos o intitulam. Royler tbm mto técnico, excelente espetáculo da essencia do jj. I'm glad he lost. Watching him wriggling around on the ground is boring. I find him one of the most boring of all. Rather than UFC they should start a league where they start out nose to nose like sumo so that way they can cut out all the preliminary dancing. I doubt Gracie could every win a fight on his feet.

What the hell, starting out nose to nose? What kind of real-life fight does that recreate?? I know of no fights where the people fall out, then stand up to each other nose-to-nose, and then start fighting! Not to mention, "distance is your best friend" against Brazilian jiutitsu, which is why they were both trying to keep each other away. If you start out nose-to-nose you'll have about ten seconds until he's choked you out.

Yo Juiceman, relax...I'm 2dan black belt shoryn-ryu karate but gotta agree w/ Boogaloo. 4fact grapplings are normally better prepared 4 ground fights and we know they'll quicky try 2 take U2 the ground...we (karate) must take the whole shit outta them otherwise we may be in trouble (of course, my opinion).

Not to start an argument but Machida is doing a pretty good job of using his Karate. Im a grappler myself and my theeory is not the stand up styles are inherently flawed but that you simply don't actually practice fighting very ofte. Regardless of what type of grappling you do you likely spar almost every session whereas you may spend a great deal of time ounching air or a sand bag in some stand up styles.

It was a good fight. Not an easy fight for Wallid by any means. Wallid is a beast on the ground. Royce is a greater MMA fighter than BJJ. Royce asked many times for a rematch but was never granted one.

No, you're not understanding me. Grappling fighters will beat striking fighters 9/10 times. That's a fact. Karate is great as long as the other person doesn't take you down to the ground, then what do you do, you're not trained for that. You lose.

I think Royce was doing the best with what he has. He'll never have the athleticism of his other family members, which is why he focuses so hard on technique and defense. He actually wasn't doing that bad until Ismail sunk in that choke.
