  • These games gave me severe headaches...

  • 5:30 Yes they will, if you knock 5 times (5 is apparently holy or something)

  • At 2:15 I remember you ALWAYS had to switch cd to continue. So annoying hehe. We had the game on 5 cd-s

  • All the Myst series including Revelation is now available from steampowered for only a few bucks each, but for some reason, to get them to run properly on windows Vista you have to go into the Program File, right click in the Exe file, choose compatibility tab & in 'Compatibility Mode' choose 'run this program in Windows compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)'. Runs great then.

  • Still one of the most visually appealing games ever, so glad I found it for the Playstation1, now I play it on my big screen tv.

  • I wasted a LOT of time on that chair. It sure looks like a puzzle. I kind of resent that they had so many dead ends in this game.

  • As much as I love these games, one has to think, HOW did they make all this stuff? Well other than 8000 engineers and 1 million workers, AND a bank account of a small planet...or creation by mental application (yes, I know he made it with a pen and paper, but get real). Ok, my meds are kicking in, GO MYST!

  • i remember when i waass young and played this with my father I shit my pants 50 times :D

  • @xylaist Aw I played Riven and Myst with my father too. In Myst, he chose the wrong book or something, and we had so sit there watching the guy write for the rest of eternity, HAHA!

  • @Stillwater900 ah yeah the good times xD

  • that fucking ride was the scariest thing ever

  • oooh the nostalagy

  • at 5:32 if you keep knoking at the dor (5/6 times) someting will apen.

  • @poucasorte yep one of the panels open and you can see a face for like 2 seconds.

  • I don't know why, but I love all the sound in the game

  • Comment removed

  • At 0:03, do you know what that song is? It's not the Temple song, even though it sounds similar.

  • this game was the best i had ever played it beats any game today in my opinion

  • Im trying to get my hands on revelation. Sadly its about 90-100 dollars now :/

  • Yeah, if you knock on the door 5 times they will answer. The number 5 means something in the age of Riven.... Hmmm

  • Comment removed

  • I noticed that you kept clicking on things that didn;t do anything. Did you just take a video as you went along like the first time you played this? 'Cause if you did than you got past this fast!! (Hehe sorry for all of the questions. I'm a curious girl.)

  • Actually, some one will answer the door! You just have to keep knocking! I don't know how many times you have to knock but if you knock several times, someone will open the door and close it again.

  • @123Doodle890

    5 knocks

  • What do the rest of the blue buttons do if they are not at a place where you can get a ride?

  • 5:36 . it will answer if you knock about 5 times

  • I playing this on steam which for some reason is absolutely horrible and crashes whenever I start to get anywhere

Also, if you knock at that door enough someone does open a panel and glare at you.

  • @henzilla27 I had problems with the Steam version & found out you have to go into the Program File, right click, choose compatibility tab & in 'Compatibility Mode' choose 'run this program in Windows compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)'. Runs great then.

  • Which Myst game was it with the bird-man in it again?

I remember seeing my uncle play one Myst game where you had to hit him with a rock or something, then lock the windows after letting yourself into the caged off room within a certain ammount of time or the birdman will smash the clock he's looking at and you have to put all its parts back in right to fix it.

  • @peppercat1515 cant believe no one answered or tried to help you..:S i would if i knew

  • @peppercat1515

The game you are looking is not one of the Myst games. It is called 'Lighthouse'. Here is a link to a walkthough with exactly the scene you were mentioning.

    watch?v=jncVovAQItc&

  • at 5:33 you said noone will ever answer the door, if you keep knocking it over and over, a little square will open and you see a womans face, but she doesnt open the door :P

  • I really have to thank you for making the videos here on autoplay! I love it when people do that in walkthroughs so I can just sit back and relax(with my screensaver turned off though!)

  • Now I'm stuck on a problem where I have to bring the book to gehn, I wish I had a revolver and shoot him in the head.

  • Scarlet Spider: In the Village, after the mother comes to get the little girl, you went to a door and wrote that "no one ever answers this door." ACTUALLY, you can get someone inside to react a little to your knocks. The symbol on the knocker is the number 5. (It's the same symbol on Riven's box cover.) Knock quickly 5 times with the knocker. A person inside assumes you're a friend and opens a slot in the door to look (you will see her FACE when this happens). Try it! It's pretty cool!!

    B.

  • It's almost like it's not really you (singular) being challenged by the game, but the entire community, b/c ultimately it takes the combined talents of many people to crack the mysteries, document their finds, and pass them along to you. BTW, the music is eerily reminiscent of the movie Ringu (actually, #2 of the series, where the two J-girls are alone together talking at the start of the movie about a tv show and a phone call you get that says 'You saw it' and then you have one week).

  • At 5:31: If you knock the door five times (five is the most important number for the natives in riven and the number that occurs the most), someone will actually answer it

  • If only they would make this game like a sandbox for a console like PS3 or something that would be so cool.s

  • Actually, i played the game once and i knocked the door a lot, and this creepy person stares at you.

  • the graphic is PWNING.

  • Also there's a reverse shadow of a man's bust at 3:37. That made me almost pee myself when I was younger

  • Sometimes people ask me "why are you so smart?" The answer is clearly because I stayed glued to a computer screen playing the Myst games as a kid lol

  • I had a dream where I was in Riven once... it was like five years ago or something.

The creepy thing is, I've never actually played Riven, I just watched my mom do it.

It's scary, I didn't even remember the dream until I saw the cut down trees and the gate at 3:10-ish... I just recognized the place O.o

  • Hell yeah these graphics are awesome! i remember i had this game didn't beat it, cuz the thinking and clues got me annoyed. It's challeging but excellent! Its great to see someone else walk you through it!

  • woah the tree town totally looks like the one in the movie time machine.

i love how there are actually people in Riven as opposed to Myst where it was all desolate and some creepy people in books

  • At 5:32 someone does answer. I used to play this game when i was a kid, and i used to knock dozens of times. After about 6 knocks a lady shud open a small window in the door and look at you, only to retreat back. After she goes away nobody will ever answer. It scared the crap outa me.

  • Oh man me too. I never understood this game but I loved playing it because I thought the graphics and the whole world were just awesome.

  • I remember the island transport thing blowing my mind when I was a kid

  • the notes i took when playing this game were at least 20 pages FULL. more, but around 20. i still have them folded and tucked into the cd cover. i look back on them now, and they look like a psychopath's notes lol.

epic game. LOVE IT! too bad nothing compares today.

  • if you Knock 5 time someone will come, look at you, then slam the peep hole shut on you ruddly.

  • @Smashknight09 Watching my dad play this as a kid he showed me that part, theres also a ghost in the middle of the game with the transport machine that I didnt like

  • this game is so difficult lol i never now wear to go wat levers to pull and wat leavers do wat it is difficult cool game though lol he he i rate this game 5 star defo

  • Vielen lieben Dank für dieses Video :)

  • lol at 1:49 "Weeee"

  • not true, after knocking a few times someone will look to see; but after that, no one will ever answer.

  • aaaaaaah those carts. aaaaah

  • This game brings back memories...

  • At 5.30 if you knock again a kid will appear from a little window

  • this game is hard as shit, but brings back good childhood memories...along with Resident Evil, and Pac Guy :D

  • oh god yes, i remember having, ioke, three pages of graph paper notes for this. By Exile, they had introduced an in-game 'camera' for taking pictures of important things for reference, which was a welcome addition.

I almost don't want to watch this, it's been years and I"ve completely forgotten most of the intermittent puzzles. XD

  • The ingame camera was in Myst IV: Revelation if I remember correctly.

  • The Villager'd door will open if you knock 5 times.

  • Also, at 5:34, you say that no one will ever answer the door. If you knock five times, a lady will open the small porthole and look at you for a moment.

  • and also the graphics were pretty top notch for ps1

  • i remember playing this..... until the 5th disc wouldnt work!! :(

  • Spoilers warning:

The chair is actually a recording device for the imager (the big cage) in the temple. If you come back to this island though the mag-lev, you'll see Gehn in the imager (probably a prerecorded one since the recording room is empty when you check it and Gehn is nowhere to be found in the island). It serves no purpose except to show how Gehn had power over the riveneses (tricks and technology).

  • I thought that Gehn was actually there, but had managed to, perhaps get to a fire marble dome in time. because, when you walk in, gehn seems to react to you, and shuts off the machine. just a thought. Was a very creepy moment though.

  • ... you get that feeling of being watched. O_o

  • ooo... I love myst! Didn't feel like working myself through another game so I just watch this instead.

    Shoop da sequel!

  • 0:12 - Not true. That chair provides a heck of a creep when you come back to the island via the Temple.

  • what version of riven are you using bscause my version is a 1998 one and it askes me to change discs (there are about 5) every 10 muinits.

  • I'm using the DVD version, which requires no disc changing.

  • @thescarletspider2 i have riven the same on in the vid do u still think i will work on windows 7?

  • @thewasp3498

I have the version that came with the 10th Anniversary collection of Myst, Riven, and Exile. It will install on Vista or Win 7, but crashes every time you try to save. If you know someone who still has WinME running, it will run ok on that. There are some very complicated workarounds for it; search the forums. Or you could buy it from Good Old Games or Steam for around $5. Those versions were made to work on later Windows.

  • @thescarletspider2 yeah person answers door if u knock 5 times on riven :D

  • They will answer the door if you hit it five times.

  • Of course - Five is a magic number in Riven. Or at least Gehn thought it was. No wait - he thought it was in D'Ni and made it so in Riven. Or something.

Ah, I love the five symbolism in this game.

  • Perhaps "answer" is too strong a word. They'll peek through the slot, see you, and put the slot back down.

  • You need an Einsteinian IQ to finishe this game without a walkthrough.

  • when i played whith my sister we walked out of the cave and saw creepy creechers jump off a rock and we ran away

  • The Sunners aren't creepy... The Whark... That's creepy.

  • ah yes the whark who gets annoyed and bangs the window

  • crazy freakworld o.O

  • nothing they just look at u then slam the door on u how rude lol

  • if u knock 5 times on the door that u siad no one will eveer answer some one answers lol

  • what do they say?

  • go away im sleeping

    :)

  • nice!

i remember it took 9 years for my dad to beat riven with help by me:D=)

  • great post

but you are wrong someone does answer the door you just have to knock on it 4 to 5 times

  • sometimes this game scared the crap out of me.

  • GAH! Why does he ALWAYS closed the doors after he leaves the room!?

  • I remember I used to play like there was a monster chasing me and I had to get away on the tram thing

  • yeah, me too. exept i think the music scared me more than anything!

  • well made for a game in 1997

  • the music wud always creep me out on this

  • What would have happened if you had released the water without unheating it?

  • It won't let you do release the water unless it's unheated.

  • As A Big Fan Of Point And Click Games I Must Admit That The Myst Franchise Is The Best Ever Made. My Favorite Was Riven, Fallowed By Myst III: Exile Than Myst IV Than Myst Than Myst V. Well They Are All Great. I Did Also Like The Journeyman Project III: Legacy Of Time. I Wish I Could Play Those Games Again.

  • What exactly do each switch do at the chamber on Crater Island?

  • I love the musik from Myst and Riven <3^^

  • 2:43, when you enter the cavern and turn around you see that the entrance looks like a frog with the eye going where the frog's eye would go

  • I forgot to mention it here, and mention it later in the walkthrough once you've found all the eyes.

  • 4:27 - I wish my game was that fast, that part takes forever

  • It's not really that fast; he sped it up so it wouldn't take so much time from the video.

  • best...game...ever....

  • this game ... sadly never was as popular as myst.

myst had that quality that somehow didnt convey into the other games ...

idk maybe it was his wifes influence but thanks for putting up the vids

its like stepping back into the 90s

  • The first Myst was ment to be for people who are VERY VERY Smart it took my 12 year old some about 2 years to beat it.

  • Thanks. I thought I had found everything.

  • 5:32 - not true. Knock five times...

  • Yes thats right! I already did it before and wanted to post the same ;) thanks!

  • Yes. Some lady peeks out of a peephole at you and stares for a few seconds then shuts the peep hole in the door. It made me sad. :(
