Yes i'm sure she's a national treasure in the UK and personally think she's an awesome performer but on a scale of 1-100 of recognizable talent in the USA shes a -5. she had not, did not break into the US market, as others on this post have indicated. she is virtually unknown in America.

@timsuffolk i remember hearing her name when I was a kid but never seeing any pic's of her. she was nowhere near as famous or as popular as diana ross was in the 1960's-70's. diana was a mega star in the usa.

Actually it's both . . . . no one sings like that anymore and also Shirley doesn't have an equal. Many singers today are just not satisifed by getting up in front of a microphone and having a band play behind them anymore. No, they want a whole choreographed routine behind them. And also Shirley Bassey's voice is just so powerful yet she still knows how to display emotion in that voice. Many singers today just don't express emotion in their songs anymore.

No one else can do this song justice because this song relates so much to Shirley Bassey . . . .every performance that she has given in her career was "the performance of her life". She always gave 110% and even more than that! Every performance that she has done was given for the world and she has given her whole self in every performance. Shirley Bassey lives to perform!

I can't believe I only just realised that she's the most successful british female artist of all time among other things, so I am now even more proud to be from Cardiff! I just wish she had more recognition around the world because she is the no.1 diva considering how long she's been singing.

Every time a star passes away, even someone as famous as Michael Jackson, only then does the public truly get a chance to see the wonderful history and intimate look at that person's life and career from beginning to end. I always feel a bit of remorse when this happens, wishing I'd paid more attention and enjoyed the star while they were here.
Shirley Bassey is what I call the epitome of a living legend. Lucky we are to have her voice, and it will be a sad day when she sings her last song.

At the age of 73 DSB records one of her finest albums of her career. The concept was brilliant to ask other songwriters to pen a song about DSB and her life or career they are all superb compositions. For me this one by the PSB's truly captures the torch song genre and there is none finer than DSB to perform it. The song builds brilliantly in three stages and really tears at the heart. Along with Dusty, DSB is another of Britain's great gifts to the world ;)

It annoys when she'scompare to Judy Garland not that shes not good and both capable of projecting thier voice but athe Dame is more dramatic and touches youre inner core BUT she has a better solid brazzy and sexy voice!!! and versatil be it contemporary,ballad and jazz ,it just shows that she is an ultimate artist.
