my school had it for 950 dollars i believe, and that was educational versioh, plus now they were bought by autodesk, so things might be different now.

firstly i agree that xsi is quite good and its toon shader is very convenient to use. But same effects can be achieved with maya and 3d max, it really depends on how well u can use a software. Also xsi is always around it's just it doesn't have a good marketing strategy, since the priority is given to avid vide production.

I tried Maya and 3D studio max and was bogged down with how user UNFRIENDLY Maya was. 3D studio max seemed to lack a lot of the features I wanted.

I am currently using XSI and let me tell you it is user friendly and has excellent features. The issue XSI has is it hasnt been around long so it doesnt have the community following that both over art programs have. That will change in time as people start to see how amazing XSI is.

really love the shading part and the cloth...
