  • gilmour put on some good semi acoustic shows but this song was amazing because bob geldof appeared to sing roger's part

  • what a bending!!

  • i like the smile of the woman at 1:05 when david gets his gretsch, she's like "yeah i'll have a great eargasm now" :D

  • /watch?v=Pn9Mpihgon4&

  • I think that sound was ''a bit'' compressed!!! :)

  • if you want to see a great version of this solo, look up marshallmandan

  • OMG Metallica4LifeDude ... wtf control urself

  • OMG Metallica4LifeDude ... wtf

  • "David Gilmour can do more with a single note than anyone could do with the entire fretboard."

  • Fuck Jesus, this is my God!

  • this guitar sounds BAD,BAD,FUCKIN BADDDD!!

  • @2712985 yes bad in a bad way :-(

  • Bob Ezrin on David Gilmour: “You can give him a ukulele and he’ll make it sound like a Stradivarius.”

  • he is one of the greatest guitarists of all time but it is all subjective just like comparing jordan with kobe

  • In all honesty I think he could get the same tone from a cigar box and a broom stick strung with cat gut!

  • to be honest. I reckon I texh him a few things. hes good but im better

  • Another thing I read was 'Brick In the Wall II's solo was written with a Les Paul. The strat tone by Gilmour can't be touched though.

    All about the mojo. ;)

  • best guitarist ever

  • damn just learnd that solo.looks like i need to learn again..just been schooled.this so much better than album.

  • The great thing about David's guitar playing is that it really isn't that hard to play, technically. But trying to play it the way that David plays it, is literally impossible. The songs he plays are of legendary difficulty because he puts more soul into his playing then any other guitarist out there.

    Greatest guitarist alive.

  • Love this song i done a cover sang it ok! but hey lol have a listen

  • for all searchin' the guitar: its a GRETSCH DUO JET 6128T

  • Dude, the title is misleading

  • Check out the subtle texture he adds in the solo at 0:25. It's like a rake. It's very quick and subtle - you might miss it, but it's these little things that adds to its greatness. I love it.

  • @USPoliticiansSuck That is nice

  • id give my right arm to play guitar like gilmour

  • @angus1878 How do you play guitar then?

  • @DanielxMovies its in the pickups

  • @angus1878 Maybe would be better to give your right foot....

  • wtf... wheres the strat

  • @jkhshsh this gretsch sound very better for the acoustic way they play

  • I agree the Gretsch doesn't have the natural sustain as the Start; BUT the Gretsch he uses here is what he used on the orignal recording of Confortably Num.

  • i just love this guy !!!

one of the best guitarists in the world !!!

how he improvises during the solo is just great !!!

  • When/what show is this from please?

  • yeah right on .how can it get better than that !

  • so you spent £££ to get the latest Fender Custom Shop Black Strat, right to the tiniest ding, and guess what? the man picks up a Gretsch and gets his usual monster tone... bloody great!

  • @Mancunion1976 I'd have to disagree.... The Gretsch doesn't have anywhere near the ring and sustain the strat has. Almost seems like Gilmore is forcing the guitar to keep up with him. IMO.

  • @spartansensei of course a strat is a strat, what I meant is that the gear plays a relatively small role when we talk about people like DG and the like.

My comment was directed to all the gearheads who spend lots of money to replicate Gilmour's rig hoping to nail his tone, but unfortunately you can't go buy is fingers and his musicality.

  • @Mancunion1976 for sure, gilmour's playing is not technicaly difficult, but impossible to duplicate. he can phrase things with 5 simple notes that will just torture your soul.....

  • @spartansensei even drum have no sustain!!!!

  • @Mancunion1976 Tone is in the hands!

  • @Mancunion1976 It's 'cuz David Gilmour has the tonal-mojo in his fingers ;)

  • @Mancunion1976 But When He plays with a strat The solo is better...

  • @Mancunion1976 but i dont think its a stock gretsch though

  • @tonyhq1992 well yes, it's a vintage Gretsch, so I suppose it has been left unmolested, thus stock.

  • @Mancunion1976 Just goes to show the sound is in the player. People can play guitars like David Gilmour's guitars, but only David Gilmour can play like David Gilmour.

  • @Mancunion1976 It must be my ears and the fact this video is only 360p rather than 760pHD+. I personally found his tone was lacking the mid-range and sustain of the original tone. Gretsch tone isn't my favourite at all.

Mind you, I'd be happy to possess half of his feel, tone and technique. David Gilmour is definitely one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time. When I was a young teenager, I would listen to the solos of Comfortably Numb and tear-up for their beauty and transcendence.

  • @Mancunion1976

Great comment lol. Now they have to run out and drop 3500.00 on the gretsch

    xD

  • Amazing...what more to say about it?

  • il piu' grande!!!!

  • 鳥肌が立った。

  • ???

  • The best there is !!

  • How does he makes that Gretsch sound like a Strat?

  • Muy bueno! Yo le pondría un poco mas de sustain!

  • @cortchubby You must've forgot Jimmy Page

  • why his guitar has 0 sustain?

  • @metalwarrior123 it is his fingers that don't have sustain not the guitar!!! hahaha!!! He is a good guitarist with great writing ability and good feeling but not a technical guitarist!!!

  • @babisSSJ4 what you mean, faster is better?

  • if you want to know how to use vibrato in soloing this is a great example, the feeling he has - brilliant... thanks for posting.

  • lol thats insane just switches guitars haha

  • Great song!!!!!! I can listen to this song million of times

  • david gilmour is a god

  • hendrix , santana , gilmour the best guitarist of all time

  • Gilmour is God. And so is Allan Holdsworth! And so is Steve Hackett! And so is Steve Howe....

  • I love this song

  • watching his perfect bends is making my pants tight

  • What a beautiful Gretsch guitar ! Not too sure if the tone is as good as the trusty strat though, sounds great in the lower register but a little screachy in the highs ?!

  • a fender sound better

  • Gilmour is GOD!!!

  • More feel than a large gathering of octupi.

  • bello molto bello

  • this solo must be play with a fender xD

  • @MixatoFreeKill Personally, I think the Gretch that he plays is better than any Strat, except the original black one he used.

  • @andy123456789A no..

his strat is like mine and all of strats in this world

strato is one of the best guitar in the world

expecially this type of songs must be played with a strato

  • @MixatoFreeKill Idk. I've never been a fan of the strat. I don't know why. I just don't really like them.

  • @andy123456789A

    de gustibus...

but there is a reason the best guitarist use the fender..

aniway i like les paul and prs too

  • @MixatoFreeKill except for THE best guitarist, jimmy page. I don't disagree that fender's are awesom, just the one's ive played feel more like tools for music instead of, like, an extention. i just bonded really heavy with my gretsch

  • @andy123456789A except for my mistake, i'm not english,

    your argument hasn't sense...

there are lots of awesome guitars i just said my favourites are cu24,les paul and stratocaster,

i didn't say gretsch sucks!! next time more attention...

  • @MixatoFreeKill Les paul's are awesome. I've never played a Les Paul I didn't like. And, sorry for misunderstanding

  • @andy123456789A yea you really have to be lucky to get a really good strat. That or you spend a bunch of money to buff it up.

  • @SaypheZonE exactly. I'm not saying their not good, cuz when you find an exceptional one, it is SUPER good, but i've had a lot more luck with other brands

  • This man's hands are connected to another dimension.

  • @Bonkymonk Smoke weed much? :)

  • Im not worthy, Im not worthy!! Egad, wheres the the strat?!

  • Interesting to hear these solos without all the echo and reverb.

  • PURE GENIUS!!!! I wish i could play like that. Beautiful!!!

  • That`s because there are no overdubs.

  • Isolated video from 'Remember That Night'! Definitely an AWESOME performance!

  • simplesmente maravilhoso...

  • he truly is the master. I often compare him to dumbledore. He is simply THAT GOOD.

  • man where is the sustain in this? Gilmour probably had the best tone of any guitarist i've ever heard in the 70's and 80's, but this sounds pretty weak

  • @jackyo12345 It's the Brian Setzer version.

  • Well.........it doesn`t get any better than that

  • i like his strat more

  • He is the master, you are the pupil

  • i saw in a website that this is the second solo after stairway to heaven

  • @nawfalben44 no man, they are like totaly not on the same album dude. but that would be bad ass

  • wow

  • the master , what can you say but thanks dave .

  • You're absolutely right

  • he seems so happy...

  • its a Gretsch G6128T Duo Jet Electric Guitar with Bigsby

  • i bet he would sound crazy if he played with scalloped frets

  • @Savatage420 whats that got to do with it? scalloped frets is just a feel thing. it actually slows down speed

  • its barely slows you down, and the reason i said he would sound crazy because with scalloped frets your vibrato is greating improved, not that his needs to be any better than it is

  • Any idea what guitar is this?

  • The wrong one

  • @qwerty09121209

    it seems like a grestch

  • Lawd, you ain't lying, THE Monster. Dayum! He's been making me crazy for 35 years....

  • Full minor third string bends on a Gretsch! Sheesh! the guy's a monster...

  • He probably just lowered the action a lot, It's not really a big deal

  • @6strngz440hz Not a monster - THE monster.

  • different but great version too.

    Amazing feeling... That Gilmour

  • Yeah, great solo but I prefer the stratocaster version

  • @Pentatonikus - True - the Gretsch has a little more midrange honk - makes you want to hear the Glassy Strat with the nice spanky attack on it.

  • This version of comfortably numb doesnt capture the intenstity and darkness of the original. I dont like it that much

  • it doesn't matter to me, each time I hear the solo, I burst in tears.

  • Agreed. Its pretty lame.

  • @themann141 Not any echo or anything

  • @themann141 that's the guitar I think it doesn't have good sustain

  • Waow !

  • wow david you are brilliant

  • +1, he is a melodic genious. One of the best. However, this just dont sound right with humbuckers. he needs to lose that gretsch and go n grad his strat.

  • thats right... sounds better on strat...

  • @aManiNsuit Damm right

  • Gilmour has such an awesome melodic tone. These solos were written much like alot of his others He would just improvise 5 or 6 solos. Then he would go back and piece together the licks that he liked. Cool concept that helped him write some classic solos like this one. Love it!

  • gilmour semplicemente mitici

  • He is the Greatest guitar player EVER, no one can match Him and no one ever will.

    PINK FLOYD 4 EVER

  • Played the second solo live at my school. I was like God for a day no joke.

  • same

  • Wicked!

  • What guitar is this?

  • looks like a gretsch i cant remember the model name

  • looked it up its a duo jet

  • Beautiful guitar, dave usually favours a strat doesn't he ? Nice to see him mixing it up and still sounding awesome if not better. A most gifted man.

  • Bow before the man who wrote and performed the greatest guitar solo of all time.

  • @1swede1 this was the first time i heard this solo, and i think its the best solo ever.

  • @1swede1 I didn't see or hear Jimmy Page at all :S

lol jk jk I think David Gilmour is great but IMO I don't believe this is the greatest or any of his solos are the greatest of all time. Great but again IMO not the greatest.

  • @imdacoolio- Everyone is entitled to their own opinions- no matter how incorrect they are. ;)

  • @1swede1 lololol I completely agree... you bastard :P jk

  • beautifull nothing more to it

  • Best Ever...

    No more to say...

  • Agree completely!

  • wouldnt mide having him as guitar teacher ;D

  • OMG

  • A Master. I'm in awe.

  • i remember this show he also played shine on your crazy diamond on acoustic

  • Great editing work on this one!!!

As for the solo... this is a class act, I just had a dream with this solo and had to look for it on Y.T. !!

  • this is from some DVD?

    thanks for sharing

  • WAY beyond odd seeing Gilmour with anything other than a strat!!! it is great But that isn't a red and white Strat!!!!!!! are we sure that this is the real David and not some alien replacement?? LOL!

  • he uses that gretsch a lot actually

  • never seen it played on a Gretsch before,

Strat Tone is what everyone knows......

    this is great though.

  • Quite simply this is A Religous Experience

  • this guy is an example , you don't have to be religious to live your life to the fullest

  • Has to be the best solo ever! There is so much feel in it, not like many other bands that just play everything as fast as they can.

David Gilmour is an amazing guitarist :)

  • awsome

  • On the first solo I prefer the gretsch sound, but on the second solo its too bluesy, and not dark enough. thats just my opinion :) long live gilmour!

  • There have been so manty comf. numb versions.... they all rule!

  • a real genius... dont Ive seen him play anything but a strat ( besides acoustic)

  • Clapton is not God, Gilmour is!

  • @cliveburt01 Gilmour is not god, Hendrix is!

  • @mfowlie6268 noooooooooo. i would have to say for beautiful tone? little wing was amazing but the guitar work in comfortably numb was amazingly brilliant. ( not that hendrix's wasent. )

  • @mfowlie6268 Hendrix is not god, SRV is

  • @aloys69 hell yea

  • this man is god

  • David gilmour is class.

  • His soli are so great

full of feeling and thy bring back memories

  • Good work getting this video dude..well done!

  • hail God!

  • His voice was too quiet in this version. Fantastic nonetheless.

  • that's how good gilmour is. He can make a near acoustic unplugged guitar sound bad ass.

  • the duojet isnt any where near acoustic. im pretty sure its a solid body?

  • Omg nice mix and nice solos :D

  • i like these solos played on his strat by him better....still kicks ass!

  • THATS HOW OLD HE IS? Oh well David Gilmour ftw

  • that gretsch is so legit

  • David Gilmour is the MAN!!!

  • totaly epic
