@MrRepizza "I Want a Girl" is the first track on the cd "The Saints Jazz Band" available on Lake Records(part of the series "Great Traditional Jazz Bands"). Hope this helps.
My father, Fred Fydler was trombonist with the Saints when John died. I remember someone calling to tell my dad that John had died, and hearing him weeping quietly in the hall after they'd gone. Your father was very much loved by his friends in the band.
My great uncle played trumpet in this band from 1962. I have a stack of old cds and vinyls sitting around my house from just before my grandfather died. I don't really know much about him and I think may have have received the odd postcard from his family in the past. It would be nice to meet him one day.
"Stack O' Lee Blues" was recorded in 1956 and the line up then was:Mike McNama(trumpet), Fred Fydler(trombone and vocals), Al Radcliffe(clarinet), John Fish(piano), John Mills(drums),Tom Gregory(bass). Rod Hopton and Bob Connell(not on photo) did not join the band until the early 60s. The Saints were legendary in Manchester throughout the 50s and 60s,their recordings are available on two CDs "The Saints Jazz Band" and "Swingin with the Saints"- available on Lake Records.
Clive, As best that I can remember, The line up for The Saints towards the end of the fifties was, Bob Connell, Trumpet. Alan Radcliffe, Clarinet. Rod Hopton, Trombone. John Fish, Piano.Jim Lolley, Banjo. Denis Grundy, Drums. They disbanded around 1982. John Fish being the last founding member dating back to 1949. Best regards Ed.

Drummer John Mills was my father, though he passed on when I was only six months old. Nice to hear this.

Hi Lauren,
I have just re-read your comment.
PLEASE don't lose those old recordings, let some other old fart (like me) have a look at them, there might be one or two gems among them !!
Thanks for your response,
Clive.

Oh there's no chance of losing them. My mum likes to keep all records in good condition, especially those of her uncle.
